This location is perfect for a peaceful and beautiful vacation that allows for calm and relaxation. The area is well-maintained and exceptionally tidy, making it an ideal spot for families or groups of friends. During our stay, we chose to stay in the "Gin" room, which was one of the largest rooms I have ever seen in a Sri Lankan hotel. The room was immaculate and incredibly spacious, and it even had a private pool. Additionally, the main pool was also very clean. The food was quite tasty, and the staff were more than willing to customize our meals to meet our dietary needs. The hotel's staff were welcoming and helpful throughout our stay. From the hotel's rear, you can take a tour of the Madu Ganga, which is organized by the hotel. The garden was also quite lovely. I strongly recommend obtaining directions from the hotel before arriving because the Google Maps route is incorrect.

One of the most quietest places I've been to down south. If you want a quiet place to relax where there's no disturbances whatsoever, then get the garden suite, you don't get the many luxuries the plunge pool or jacuzzi suites may offer but it's cut away from the rest of the activity and you'll get exactly what you want to. The room is huge and you get everything you need for your stay. The food is also great!

We were looking for a place to have a peaceful holiday. We are glad to find The River House which we never knew before. It was a fantastic holiday with great memories. Surrounding was absolutely amazing. Having a friendly crew with great hospitality. Food was superb. Best place to have a holiday with your family members away from busy environment. And also we had interesting boat safari with knowledge along the Madhu River.

This is just heaven on earth. Nature nature nature. Greenery, animals - enjoy the beauty what Mother Earth has to offer. Just the sound of nature nothing else to hear. This really is a place for the nature lover, those who appreciate and care for it. Nothing for people who want to be entertained! Staff ist wonderful. Caring, calm, engaged and attentive. Accommodation is just perfect and the pool, the best pool I have ever been in during all my travels. Wifi works perfect. Food is superior and excellent. Note to the Asia Leisure Group - please do not ever built anything else on this heavenly property, where nature is respected. All this nature makes the place special. Let’s all preserve it! Please stop using all single used plastics. Straws and bottles, this was the only hotel in Sri Lanka using these items. It is easy to refill a glass bottle for the guests!

Hidden near to the south coast, this location is a nature friendly calm and quite place. Old colonial architecture with nature blend vibe is a blessing for a vacation. Lovely food, friendly staff. Not so modern. But close to nature. Five rooms including one main suite with a mini pool inside.

If you want calm to relax, this is the place you have to go. I stayed in pool plunge suite called "Manik" for a night and enjoyed alot. You have the 10ft pool and the balconey along with a huge room. You better watch my reviewing video in youtube channel. "Enigma Travel".

A fabulous stay at River House Balapitiya.. A hidden gem! From the reservation process itself, the service was fantastic. Reservations Executive, Suresh was extremely obliging and very prompt with his service. He went out of his way to make sure the booking done to our satisfaction and looked into the finer details. The property is absolutely beautiful and peaceful, providing a proper break from the everyday bustle of life! The food was just fantastic! Chef Amal did a splendid job! I would specifically recommend the pork chops and the Spaghetti Carbonara!👍 The rooms were large and very comfortable, perfect for our family, with 2 young kids. The manager in charge of the property, Lasantha was also very forthcoming and made sure our stay was nothing short of perfect. The property is in need of a few touchups but everything else compensated for it. We would definitely return! Thankyou for a wonderful stay!

An amazing place to relax and unwind. Plunge pool Suite was extremely spacious and private and ofcourse a super plunge pool overlooking the beautiful lush gardens and the river! Staff was friendly and very welcoming. The food was superb! Soups to die for! Compliments to the chef! They even arranged a candle light dinner for us. Overall highly recommended for couples looking for a quiet secluded stay near hikkaduwa ❤

River House Balapitiya is perfect for a family vacation as well as for couples. It is a very quiet and calm property surrounded by nature and I wouldn't recommend it for a party unless you book all 5 rooms. The food was the perfect size for an adult if it's more than 01 adults may I suggest taking two different types of food choices as you will have more variety while sharing the food? May sure you do the boat ride and go for it at 6 am before the sun comes up.

An old walawa turned into a small boutique hotel with 5 rooms. Very secluded, calm place with 100% privacy. The property is adjoining Madhu River, which is rich in bio diversity. Our mornings were filled with birds chirping, what a beautiful location! It's a honeymooners paradise! The property is a bit neglected but still in good condition. Limited food varirties to choose from, but whatever provided is very authentic.

Complete unreliable - book with the risk of your entire vacation being ruined/affected. Hotel reservation was cancelled less than 11 days before the stay, with the excuse that it is fully booked. I was only informed 3 weeks after making the reservation, and now do not have much options given that other places are booked out 2 weeks before the stay.

The River House-Balapitiya by Asia Leisure, is a unique property close to mother nature. It has an evergreen surrounding bordering Maadu River with a bunch of wonderful people to care for us. The rooms are very spacious and with all the comfort that you may look for. The pool is big and clean. We could spend hours in it while enjoying nature. The food was delicious, and we all enjoyed it much. Many Thanks to the Chef, Mr. Amal De Zoysa for helping us with our needs with his wealth of experience. Starters to Desserts everything was well prepared and well served. The staff were very helpful, and they attend to all our needs. The anniversary dinner and the cake were a wonderful surprise and would like to thank Mr. Sampath, Mr. Lakshan and Mr. Lasantha for all their kindness and support. We strongly recommend this place to anyone looking for a calm and quiet place with a stunning view and excellent food.

We had issues arriving at the location using google maps, ensure you ask experts in area or the property when you are near. We checked in late around 9 pm. No welcoming or giving any instructions or guidance although more than 5 people standing and watching, they didn't even ask for ID! the AC was off and took 2+ hours to start cooling. Bed is very uncomfortable to me, and no slippers. Mosquito, flys, and different kinds of insects live with you in the room. Food was pre-prepared, very cold and tasteless. The electricity plugs are very limited to lights and tv in room and they are not international standard, you need to bring your own converter, or try your luck asking. The private in-room pool wasn't cleaned, had many insects, and was definitely very cold. Sometimes, people can let go some small pitfalls l, but when all comes together it just ruins the experience. Initialy, I booked a room for 2 nights. But as I didn't enjoy my experience, I spoke to the hotel boss and decided to stay only the night. With all those inconveniences, I'm not sure why they consider themselves 5 stars!

The place is only a 2 hour drive from Colombo, and is easily accessible. It is the most calm, relaxing, magical stay. Situated right next to a lake and it's acres and acres of lush garden and nature. What makes the experience the best though apart from the location is the most competent Manager Lasantha, and his staff. The chefs Amal and Chathuranga made excellent meals and prepared them exactly how we asked them to. The 3 hotel staff Kalana, Lakshitha, Sudesh were always helpful and accomodating and very efficient with their service which meant we were never bothered. Overall the whole stay was seamless, and so amazing that I will be recommending The River House to all my friends and family. The Manik Suite aka The Plunge Pool suite is definitely the room to stay in with its personal balcony overlooking the lake and the whole garden, and of course it's very own pool in the balcony. This is the perfect place to stay in for a nice relaxing stay and we could not be more happier with it.

Superb place a calm vacation. Went there for our honeymoon on Nov 2021. Staff was friendly they even checked few times if we are on the correct route since the Google maps doesn't working properly to this location. Hotel is located in a quiet and calming environment. We had a warm welcome and check in was quick. Room was spacious comfy and clean. Food is delicious and portion sizes are ample. We experienced absolutely awesome time there. It's not just a hotel but a valuable chunk of down south experience. Huge thanks to the Manager Mr. Lasantha, cheff Amal and the staff. Keep up the good work. Will be there again for sure. Cheers!

Very nice quiet house to get away and relax. Good food and service. There isn't a lot to see in the area apart from the river and birds but if you're looking to relax this is a great spot

A beautiful place with peaceful environment. Great location for photo shoots. A large, comfortable room with all the amenities. Food was great. Equipped with a beautiful and a large pool and we had it for ourselves since no one else were there. Great value for the price.

One of the best hotels I've ever stayed. Our two day stay here was so relaxing. Food was excellent and Rooms were spacious. The swimming pool was one of the best. You could go for boat rides in Madhu River at a cost but we did not try that option as we thought it was much more worth to spend that time also within the hotel. You could get the food to your rooms and we preferred it that way. Service was excellent and nothing to complain about. Only problem was finding the hotel as Google Maps shows a route that lead to a dead end.

Such a beautiful place and it’s wonderful to spend time alone with your special ones. Food is amazing and they serve you the right portion. Rooms are spacious and clean. Staff is so friendly and their service is excellent. The location was a bit hard to find first but was able to manage. Best places so far!

We booked The river house hotel for our honeymoon tour and we select the Walawe suite. Which is located separate to the main premises with huge and beautifull garden and face to the madu river. It was truly amazing place bleded with peacefull and relaxing atmosphere. Mr Lasantha is the manager of this place and he was very friendly and helpful person. Also the staff is so attentive to our needs. Foods are delicious and mouth watering. You can choose the meals from their set menus as per your favouration. This suite has private pool with jacuzzi and ayurvedic ammentities. Also they have beautiful common pool. We highly reccommended this place for couple experiance and rating 5/5 Thank you all fot the things to make our honeymoon so memorable.

Property is located at the one of the river bank of Maadu Ganga and with five private suits. Property is quite eco friendly and if you want to spend calm and quite time with your loved ones, this is the one of best place to be. We booked FB basis and the meals provided during our stay for the rate given us was quite awful. Restaurant and kitchen required major improvements. Other than that all other aspects are worth for the price.

The perfect secluded jungle spot to acclimatise after a long flight. Lovely mellow atmosphere, just what we needed. Friendly staff, good food and epic river cruise. Superb 2 night pit stop on the way to the south. Would recommend!
