I can't express through the words. Marvelous and Fantastic. I saw very lovely wild life officers . You can watch bady elephants very closely when they coming to the feeding ground . Feeding times are 10.00 am , 2.30pm and 6.00 pm. You can watch animals through out period otherwise they are going to back to reserve .if you go there, don't forget to visit Udawalawa National Park.

Elephant Transit Home - Udawalawa is very good tourist attractive place in Embilipitiya. They have very good friendly staff. Visitor's opening hours are (10.30 a.m. / 2.30 p.m. / 6.00 p.m.) allocated to elephant feeding times. Entry fee is Rs.20/- for local guides. It is very reasonable price. They open in all the days including poya days.

Great place to visit especially for children. Young elephants are fed milk by caretakers. It's surprising to see how well behaved most elephants are even though few 'naughty' calves are also present.

Great place where the young elephants are looked after until they are ready to be released back into the park. Such a wonderful experience watching them feeding and playing together..

Ticket for foreigner is 1813 LKR , it's quite expensive. Local is 100 LKR 😁😁 (February 2023) This public feeding is done twice a day and the entrance fee goes towards the upkeep on the home. There is also an interesting little museum explaining about the cycle of elephants and the difference between Sri Lankan and African elephants

It's a place with a noble cause. People just do their work with the elephants and let you see. We went today at the 18.00 hrs feeding time, there was another feeding time at 14.00 hrs. The whole act took around 20 minutes. They charge 500 LKR per adult and 250 LKR per kid They treat elephants with respect and nicely.

Lovely place to visit. Baby elephants got our love and attraction with their funny activities. Elephant transit home feeding them and care them it should be really appreciated. But they should be little bit more kindness for infants. I were there 6.00pm feeding time and lot of crowd there.

Nice place to wach elephants from close. Usually they feed elephants at 10.30 am , 2.00 pm and 5.00 pm. You can find free parking on the site. You have to buy tickets to entry and on the weekends are very crowded and if you dont arrive early it is possible to not be able to entry inside because if it is too crowded thry dont let people inside anymore.

This home is filled with these little cuties. They play around and you get to see them eat, feed by the caretakers. Baby elephants are so extraordinary and to see them so close is an amazing experience. 🐘🐘

2018 Oct 24th, I went to visit the elephant orphanage, It is a beautiful place to visit. With their amusing antics, baby elephants have piqued our interest. It should be very appreciated if elephants are fed and cared for throughout their travel home. However, they should show a little more consideration towards infants. I was there around 6 p.m. for the feeding, and there was quite a crowd.

Be ready here to not be a part of feeding action, you will be 20 meters near behind the fence. It’s pretty crowded all the time. But in general it’s a nice and positive place, they do good helpful job for elephants 🐘

Amazing place! There is some construction work being done around and the place on its own needs some work. But you don't go to this place to admire the building. You come here to see baby elephants being fed. Baby elephants who lost their mothers. They are being looked after here with no human physical contact so they can be released into thebwild again when they are 6yo. After that they are being monitored for 2 years to make sure they cope in the nature. Here you can watch them being fed with milk from distance. There are 3 "show" times daily (10.30am, 2.30pm and 6pm). Looking after these animals is very pricey and by purchasing ticket and watching them you support this beautiful cause.

Mixed feelings about the treatment of the elephants. I'm sure they are doing lots of great things for the baby elephants that would probably not survive in the wild, but the hitting with sticks did not sit well. I would have liked the team to explain more about training, which might have alleviated concerns that were palpable in the audience.

In here you can watch feeding milk to baby elephants. There are 3 time slots which is 10.30am, 2pm and 6pm. So if your planning to visit, make sure you come during these time slots. There is enough parking and restaurants around to get any meals. The ticket is priced at 115LKR per adult. The time duration will be around 20 mins. Its better if you can visit during the day time, because at 6pm the lighting condition is too bad incase you wanna capture any images. There is a museum as well.

Place to look after baby elephants who have missed their mother or herd, until they are able to live by them selves. since they are being prepared for the jungle, they are having minimum human exposure and contacts. You can watch they are fed with milk from distance. Evey day that is done in a ground. There is a stage built for this. They make sure every elephant gets milk. There are 3show times per day where you can see they are fed with milk. You have to target show time to arrive unless you have to wait a long. Place have its own parking and has easy access from main road. There is nothing much to see. There is a information center but is has only poster boards. They could have done a better job. Thats the reason i give 4 star.

The elephant sanctuary is easily accessible by vehicle and is a good place to visit before going on a safari. You can watch the elephants being fed from a separate viewing stand. There is also a small museum and information center about elephants on the premises. It's very suitable for children and it's fun to see the baby elephants.

It was worth visiting. It'll be more fun to watch if you visit the times they give milk to elephants. They feed them at 10:30 a.m. , 2:30 p.m. , 6:30 p.m. And the tickets were at satisfying range too.

Fantastic experience - a highlight. Over 50 younger orphaned or injured elephants from babies to 6 year olds getting bottle fed. Aim is to save them, educate them & then return them safely to the wild. Got to see them up close & wat h them interact. A must do if in area.

The baby elephants, who are predominantly orphaned from the jungle, are super cute! This place is an excellent trip for elephant lovers or families. You get to see feeding time, which is really entertaining. The way the babies run up for the milk is so cute. This is a great cause worth supporting, so please consider visiting. Can get crowded, but you are able to see clearly even if it’s busy!

Pretty sad. We spent pretty much (tourist price?) for just 20 minutes of “show”. And I’m sad to call it show, but this place is made for tourists, you don’t see very good how the feed them or what they actually do with the elephants. I don’t think they are happy… not recommend.

Nice place, there are a lot of baby elephants. Unique experience and we observe there were many foreign tourists also at this place. They really enjoyed at the feeding time to those baby elephants. A must visit place if you travel around Udawalawa.

Best place to see elephant in the wild. They seem to treat the elephants very good here compared to other elephant orphanage centers. After the feeding they let the elephants free in the wild, which is very nice to see and know. With your ticket you contribute with 100% to the feeding expenses for the elephants. We payed 5 USD/Person

This facility does great work in elephant preservation, and is the perfect place to view baby elephants in a humane way. The entrance fee for foreigners is very reasonable and goes to a good cause either way. The information centre also has a lot of cool facts on Asian elephants, and what the Transit Home does.

Well worth a visit at feeding time. We went for the 10.30 am session and it was nice to see many locals as it was a public holiday. We chose this place because it really is a transit home (and vet sevice) with the aim being to release elephants back into the wild, sometimes in more distant national parks than nearby Uduwalawe, with tracking devices to check their movements and ensure successful integration. Also the animals are respected as wild animals, so there is no patting etc.

I think its a good idea to help baby elephants and also sick ones but making a „feeding hours” while the animals are definitely unnaturally hungry waiting for “that moment” isn’t cool. At least they set them free to the park when they grow up

The only institution in Sri Lanka which takes in orphans and takes care of ill Elephants with the goal of releasing them back into nature. It is run by the government. The feeding was nice to watch and the staff was friendly. By buying an entrance ticket of 500 rupees you sponsor 2 milk feedings out of the 4 needed per day.

A must visit place for all lovers of elephants and wild-life. It's a transit home for displaced, injured, orphaned, etc. elephants to be rehabilitated before being released to forest. You can contribute for the expenses. A wealth of knowledge about elephants and how to protect them, can be gained by visiting the museum/information centre on-site.

The first elephant orphanage in Sri Lanka. Around 70 -75 baby elephants and young elephants are in there. All of them have faced a trouble so they take to here and kept. After they get matured they are release to the jungle. Feeding baby elephants is very attractive image and it's really lovely. All of them looking very friendly with people who feed them. We heard that milk has very high cost so they will thankful to you if you can sponsor for their milk.

Not sure what to think about it.. Udawalawa park was beautiful and it’s great they save elephants and send them back to the wild. But to see a man beats elephants with a stick. I understand they need to control the heard somehow but some of the elephants were beaten with no reason. For example the heard need to move away from feeding area and the last ones got beaten even they had no place to go because of the elephants in front of them.

I recommend everyone to visit Elephant Transit Home, especially with children, in order to instill in them and feel compassion and love for these cute animals who were left alone without their mothers. It's amazing to see how obedient they are and rush to eat milk from the hands of people who care about them ... tears welling up in my eyes. ... The only thing doing happy that they grow up a little and go to freedom in the park to their relatives(Elephant relatives)!!!

Udawalawa Elephant Transit Home is one of the most reputed institute for Elephant Rehabilitation around the world. This institute was established in 1995 by the Department of Wildlife Conservation. There is an Information Center which provides information to the tourists and visitors about Elephant Rehabilitation. It offers a collection of photographs, research articles and specimens that help you understand the process. The best time to visit this place is when the baby elephants are fed. It’s a nice sight to see how they come in lines to get their milk. The elephants are fed every day at 9a.m, 12p.m, 3p.m and 6p.m. so if you are visiting make sure you go on above times.
