😐 Today's remains on a hill deceive the original extent of the castle. The outer bailey was left to nature and is now almost invisible. As you can read on the information board on site, it was built to protect silver mining and was given as a fief by the Zähringer family to the von Keppenbach family.... People often mention castle,

Today's remains on a hill deceive the original extent of the castle. The outer bailey was left to nature and is now almost invisible. As you can read on the information board on site, it was built to protect silver mining and was given as a fief by the Zähringer family to the von Keppenbach family. It later became the Gahnerbenburg, i.e. part of a community of heirs. But the owners became impoverished and became robber barons, so the castle was destroyed by the citizens of Freiburg. The new building only lasted until the Peasants' War. But a lot has been preserved in this remote location. You can find various secured remains of the wall and understand the original structure. According to Wikipedia, there is said to have been a keep outside, no visible remains today, see note on the outer bailey. To visit Sägeblatt at the intersection over the bridge, if you haven't found a parking space yet, drive over and then park at the hiking board or on the edge of the Schweizerloch. Then follow the path shown by the signs and stay on it.

A small but well-renovated robber baron ruin, we walked there from the Freiamt community center (Sägplatz). The climb to the castle takes a long time, but it was worth it.

In the middle of the forest, well hidden. View only towards the Black Forest. Seems like it's not very visited. It has its charm

SchÜne, kleine Burgruine. Der Weg zur Burg ist nicht sehr weit, ideal fßr Kinder. Parkplätze gibt es am Sägeplatz.

Of these small ruins surrounded by greenery, what remains is a good structure and an area that has been equipped with tables for refreshment. A quiet place to admire the landscape and relax after a long bike ride. Silence and nature

(Translated by Google) To run very well. The Janoschweg is interesting for children. You can discover many colorfully painted stones. (Original) Sehr gut zu laufen. FĂźr Kinder ist der Janoschweg interessant. Viele buntbemalte Steine kĂśnnen sie dabei entdecken.
