Lovey day out in Clitheroe is not complete without visiting the Castle and Museum. The Museum covers all aspects of the local area in including Rocks, Amimals the Castle History including the Pendel Witches, great ifvyou have children and the staff are warm and welcoming. The Castle is set in the lovely town of Clitheroe which looks like a places in the Lake District but without ripping you off for even breathing. We went on a Sunday and found by accident the parking is free. Win win.

What a lovely afternoon out! The castle tiny but it's everything you'd expect of an historic building and it's set in beautiful grounds with an amazing view. The museum is great for kids - they even get to play an explorer game while they look around which makes it a lot more fun - my husband and I got involved too. The price for the museum is fair and worth it, considering the castle as a whole. The art gallery was tiny but actually a lot more interesting than I expected - I just wish I had the money to buy some of the amazing pieces. The cafe was bright, clean and oh, the food! - at first I was like "£6.75 for a sandwich?!" but it was easily the best sandwich I've ever had and the accompaniments were filling and delicious. Staff were friendly and helpful throughout and the gift shop was reasonably priced. There's even a kids playground so you can literally spend hours here, which is far more than I expected. Honestly a pleasant surprise, a great find and a fab family outing!

Fabulous independent museum. Great couple of hours and we loved the events. Lots of things for kids from activities and dress up to craft and themed days. Can't wait for your festival of archaeology

The museum is small but interesting. They provide activities for kids which makes it fun and interactive. The view from the keep is definitely the best part of the experience.

A 'must see' if you're visiting the area. Great little museum with plenty of local history and the castle itself although small is worth it just for the views! The grounds are lovely to wander around as well although there are some fairly steep paths to negotiate so just be warned! The only downside for us was that the cafe/restaurant was closed when we were there but I would imagine that was just due to being midweek and early in the season (May).

The museum is very interesting with lots of information on all aspects of local life in the area. Sections are divided into different rooms with each covering a particular aspect of life. Covid restrictions very much adhered to with time slot booking and a very clearly marked one-way system in operation. Staff on hand to ensure everything is running smoothly. Well worth a visit if you're up at the castle.

Interesting exhibits and text explaining the history of the area through the ages. Good value. Hopefully the endless loop of Jimmy Clitheroe routines will get a push button to activate it rather than being on an endless loop that quickly starts to get on your nerves!

My wife and 2 children 5 and 12 visited the town and museum, was great experience at the castle, beautiful grounds and view and love how they put effort into the children's needs, great dragon hunt for them and craft at the end. Staff really welcoming and friendly and made it a great afternoon out for us all. 😊

A great little museum that can easily entertain you for half a day / a rainy day. Conveniently situated just a few minutes from the railway station, an impressive small castle (with great views) sits next to a very interesting museum, which has exhibits on local & natural history. Friendly staff man the place, with a small shop for souvernirs. Unfortunately, the cafe was closed on my visit 😕 (February Half Term 2022), but Clitheroe town centre outside should have plenty of eating options.

Really lovely museum, small and cosy but modern and well maintained. The staff were very friendly and helpful. The exhibits were varied but all tied back to the Clitheroe area. More aimed at kids but still plenty to learn and enjoy for adults too.

Good views from the top of the castle, especially during the summer months. Information in the museum is very formative and interesting. Perfect for bringing young kids. There is also many interactive things for children including the 'interactive zone' outside the museum.

Amazing museum! Went with my 9 year old daughter and 1 year old son. My daughter loved it, she found it really informative and really enjoyed the extra task this month of finding knights and princesses. The staff were just fantastic, really knowledgeable and friendly, they were really good with my kids and I had a great conversation with them about archaeology.

We visited the museum today with our Grandsons age 6 and 4. The museum experience was a good one. The children loved the explorer backpacks and looking for the trains in the rooms. There was lots to see and interest the children. Climbing the castle is always a hit and they love the park and skate park with their scooters. X

A lovely Norman castle and has been restored brilliantly. The staff were very friendly and helpful as were on holiday so didn't know many places and they give us a map to look at routes and places to visit The gift shop was fairly priced and it was a brilliant museum inside as the stewards gallery was good in the castle grounds and the proper bit you pay for and was reasonably priced

Beautiful setting to walk around with dogs or children, beautiful park that has lots of different apparatus from baby swings to huge spider web climbing frame. The castle grounds were so clean and beautiful and a pleasure to visit, amazing skate park with some very talented children on there and well worth a watch.

A nice little museum to walk around, lots of information and hands on exhibits for youngsters, (or adults). The walk up to the castle is a little steep in places, worth it for the views though.

A fascinating museum with interesting displays. I loved the bits about geology with rock and fossil objects. Everything is well laid out and we spent a lot of time here. There are several benchmarks around the castle. The one at the entrance is 330.6 feet.

Small, compact but very nicely kept. It will be of special interest to geologists and naturalists. Lovely view all around.

👍👍 What an amazing walk. Going from the car park and walking north, you come out of the forest and go straight into fields of sheep and cows. It’s stunningly beautiful and all so photogenic.
