The overall rating at 3.9 really doesn't do this restaurant justice. It's clean, offers great service, as well as delicious and quality food. I think it deserves at least a 4.5 overall rating. We had the B Set for 2 which is at $35.95 each. Every one of the dishes was good! We enjoyed the starters which comprised the Hot and Soup, Wonton Soup (quality meat!), Fried Chicken Dumplings, Spring Rolls, and Samosas (yum!). The mains - Lemon Chicken, Fried Garlic Shrimps, Pineapple Fried Rice, and Veggie Noodles - were tasty too! Glad we came here despite the rating. Recommended!

We ordered takeout for our wedding anniversary… I’ve eaten at this location for over 15 years. Tonight was the worst experience food wise. Ordered two chicken dishes and they were dry and rock hard. I went to call them about our experience and it might have been the worst customer service I ever had. I was told they never received any other complaints in the day about their food. I explained to them I really enjoy their food and it’s the reason we decided to order from them. I was trying to be nice and respectful and all they did was defend themselves. I had no resolution or even an apology. I don’t write negative posts on the internet. However, this deserved one tonight for the way I was treated when trying to explain to them our protein dishes weren’t up to par. I really am disappointed as it was supposed to be a pleasant experience shared with my family.

Dined at this location during the lunch hour. The woman behind the counter had a serious attitude problem. She led us to our table and then persistently asked what we wanted to eat, fully knowing we've been sitting for maybe 2 minutes and have not even decided yet. After refusing to see the drink (alcohol) menu, we were seriously shafted. When our food finally came (>15 minutes), portions were very limited in relation to the cost of the menu items. Beef was over-seasoned, salty. The worst part of it all is both me and my plus 1 suffered stomach aches soon after we left. Definitely will not be back and highly don't recommend. Don't even waste your time (and money!!!)

Have been to Cynthias a couple of times and also ordered takeout. The food is usually excellent: well presented, fresh, and generous portions. We started with spring rolls then had the spicy tofu, General Tao chicken, crispy, broccoli and mushrooms, and steamed rice. Between three people there was enough of each to take home another serving. The restaurant has interesting, decor and ambience. It is slightly loud and we were at a table in the middle of the room. They have plenty of staff, so it is a well oiled machine working very quickly together. They refilled our green tea attentively, which was wonderful, and when the dishes first arrive, they will serve you as well. They packaged the leftovers. It was busy (Sunday 6-7) and there were a couple birthdays- they will make a fuss for you. We had ice cream and almond cookies for dessert. I was considering a coffee but didn’t have a chance since things suddenly became quite rushed. Fortune cookies, and hot hand towels were provided, which is a thoughtful touch. We were presented with the bill, and the machine was brought right away. However, we were not even finished eating. The bill was also presented to my friend (who happen to be a man) instead of my mother, who was actually paying. Not a huge deal, but the server should ask, not assume. It was actually his birthday and we were treating him. My 85 year old mother needs a few minutes to get organized, (as she was interrupted finishing her dessert) and was uncomfortable to have the staff waiting. I did not understand why there was such pressure to leave. Perhaps there was an incoming reservation, but I did not see a lineup/ people waiting for the table. We definitely felt like we were being pushed out the door which was very unpleasant, considering the meal had been so wonderful. Accessible with parking. A bit loud for hearing impaired.

Still Going Strong After All These Years!! I've been going to Cynthia's for what seems like forever. Over the years I've had family dinners, graduations dinners, promotion celebrations, birthdays, nights out, dates, and other reasons to eat there. I've had food off the regular menu and food from the group menus. I live in Markham now and food is different, but Cynthia's has a great combination of classic Chinses dishes, North-American style dishes and not only that they also can cater to almost any dietary request. They have always been good with that. Cynthia's is not only a great restaurant but it has a very opulent decor with an almost theatre-like dining experience. One of the reasons I keep coming back is the food. Over the years the food has been consistent in flavour, freshness and presentation. When you go to a place like this you must know already what you like from the sauces to the cooking style. This way you'll always get a great meal. You will find beef dishes, pork, chicken, and seafood dishes as well as vegetarian/Vegan. Call ahead and let them know when you make your reservation what the dietary concern or food allergy may be. They have always been great at accommodating special requests. Over the years there has only been once or twice that there was something I didn't like with the dish, and they more than happily replaced it with a fresh plate or offered a suggestion for something else. The same for any other person who was with me at the table. Service is one thing you will get in droves. The well-dressed staff are always happy and polite and there to help you have a great experience. This is why I keep coming back. This night was no different, we had a large group with kids, folks with allergies, with vegans and one person with a food allergy. We paid a little extra for our set menu but the food came out as everyone wanted so that all of us were happy. Cynthia's always been good to me so give them a chance, I'm sure you'll agree.

I have been going to Cynthia's for 20+ years. It use to be very good, and every Dec 25th for the past 7 years I pre-order our meal a week in advance (before It would be an order and wait 2 hours). Waiting for the food a bit when I get there at the designated time, I can understand especially when they call to say they're a bit behind. But waiting in the restaurant for over an hour to bring out "freshly cooked" food, but when I got home, (which is less that a 10 minute drive), I found my order was ICE cold, including 2 soups. The chicken and beef dishes were watery and mainly onions, with very little protein. For an order to come right out of the kitchen it should not be cold at all, and I should not have to reheat a Christmas Dinner. I have given you 11 months, after leaving numerous messages for the owner to contact me. You don't care. I will not be coming back and I will give my business to another local restaurant who may be more expensive, but at least I will be getting food, and not cold watery raw onions. The worst part was on Dec 25, you were still taking orders instead of fulfilling (and I am not even kidding) the 100+ people waiting in the lobby, and the overflowing parking lot. ADDITIONAL: Finally after 13 Months (2 months on google) Cynthia's has responded, and the response is insulting and laughable. Hey Cynthia's Chinese Food, did you even read what I wrote? They copy and pasted the same response to all the negative reviews

Placed an order for delivery with Cynthia’s at 6:17pm and were told it would arrive at 9:30pm. We Called at 8:45pm to ask about the status of our order as we did not get any courtesy call regarding a delivery time change. We were then told it would arrive for 10:45pm when we called back. This is obviously way too late as we were already pushing it by eating at around 9:30pm, but the point is the customer service. If you’re too busy to take orders that you’re already delivering for 9:30 at night, you could have told us that you couldn’t take our order. And to switch the time to an hour later for delivery, without a courtesy call, that’s not right.

It was alright. For such a high price you'd expect better quality, and perhaps a bigger portion. I really liked the Crispy OK Chicken, everything else was generic unfortunately. For half the price at what you would pay here, you can get all the same stuff at any mom & pop Chinese restaurant with bigger portions. Service was good, friendly staff.

Chinese dining elevated away from the typical grab-and-go Chinese shops we often see around town. Staff welcome you into a well appointed dining room that always impresses someone going in for the first time. The menu is vast and most items are done well. The peking duck is very much celebrated when served, with a gong and by-the-table prep. The take-out packaging is well thought out so food carries well. The lunch specials are very tasty and with generous portions - a more affordable to experience the restaurant.

Beef and Broccoli tasted the best. Also had the Special Soup (seasonal), Pecking Duck, Steamed Fish, and the House Fried Rice. Service was exceptional, felt like royalty.

Since September of 2018, January 1st 2023 would be my third time dining at this establishment.... and sadly my last time. To best sum up this restaurant, my wife says it best namely, NOT ALL THAT GLITTERS IS GOLD. Our first taste of this restaurant was some time very shortly after we had moved from Brampton to Vaughan back in September of 2018. Not being familiar with the restaurants in York region at the time, we decided to give this place a try. The food if I recalled correctly at the time was 'meh' at best. Consequently, I was not in a hurry to try it a second time. Fast forward to around the time COVID was about to end, I decided to order some takeout from this place. From what I remembered, everything I ordered, including the ma po tofu was very watery and bland tasting. And finally, yesterday on New Year's Day of 2024 my wife and I decided to try this place one more time, given that both of us were hungry and places to choose from were extremely limited. We ordered black pepper beef, Szechwan chicken and spicy tofu. When we received the dishes we were sorely disappointed. All three dishes were supposed to be spicy dishes and not one of them was even the slightest bit spicy. The Szechwan chicken was extremely bland tasting as well as sweet, and contained about 70% onions and 10% meat at best. The fried spicy tofu was so overcooked, the tofu pieces were all crispy and sweet tasting. The black pepper beef was about the only slightly palatable dish, and even it was on the bland side with zero heat. Again, to summarize my three experiences overall, it is a very nice looking restaurant with very elegant looking decor with what would seem to be almost first class service, with food that is excellently presented, but sadly extremely lacking in quality and taste. From reading the other reviews, it seems I'm far from the only one of this opinion of their food. Hopefully management reads this review and takes it seriously to make the necessary improvements.

I order the Chicken Lettuce Wraps as my main course quite regularly (minimum once a month) and they’re always great. Tonight when I ordered them, there were large strings of what looked like skin or fat that were inedible. I called Cynthia’s and spoke to the manager to let her know how unappetizing the Lettuce Wraps were and emailed her a photo to show her. She called me back and let me know that she spoke to the kitchen and their machine that cuts the chicken is starting to fail and that’s why there’s larger pieces. I told her that it didn’t look like the chicken used for the lettuce wraps were trimmed at all as there was so much skin or fat (it’s usually diced quite nice). She said that she told the kitchen they need to make sure to trim the fat. Anyways, she told me next time I order she’ll put a spring roll in my order for the issue. I told her I can’t even eat my meal as I have to pick through it (with my fingers) to avoid the skin or fat. She said ok, I can give you 50 % off next time you order the Lettuce Wraps and that’s the best I can do unless we want to return tonight’s order. I told her I’m not sending my husband out in the pouring rain for $20. I informed her that she lost a good customer and I would never order from there again and also let her know I would be giving a bad review and intend to let everyone know about their disgusting customer service and clearly really cheap chicken they use in their dishes that they charge a premium for. Shame on you Cynthia’s.

We had ordered a big selection for our family for Christmas day, trying to support a small local business. The food quality was average but what really upset us is that 2 of the dishes were wrong. When we called to complain the person from Cynthia's spent a good half hour arguing with us that he will credit one dish but not the other, and definitely no refund. Guess we will be supporting other restaurants from this point on, ones that actually appreciate it and understand customer service.

This restaurant is our favourite Chinese restaurants in the city ! It’s got the style, the vibe, the atmosphere, the friendly staff: all servers and unfailingly, pleasant hostess, delicious fresh food, great jazz musician. The interior is very nice that makes you feel very comfortable , as well as traditional staff costumes .. AMAZING!! We have been going there almost every week for a few years - that’s how good restaurant is! Highly recommended!

The food quality has Really declined. A shame. We ordered 6 items...There was very little beef in the Sizzling Black Pepper Beef. The sauce was water. The sliced BBQ pork was dry. We ordered Chicken with Cashew and Vegetable and got Chicken with Almond and Veg. The Seafood Cantonese Fried Noodle contained 1 shrimp. The other three dishes were hardly mediocre. Recommend look elsewhere.

Cynthia's is simply the best in Chinese cuisine. My family always makes a point of visiting for special occasions, and have never been disappointed. The decor and costumes worn by the staff add to the adventure. Try "Ok Chicken" and you will understand how amazing the menu is. Thanks so much to Cynthia and her amazing staff for creating so many special memories.

It’s incredible! The service was amazing. All of tye food was piping hot and came out at the same time. If you are in the mood for slightly upscale Chinese food, doesn’t get better. Best hot and sour soup I have ever had, and their crispy OK beef is amazing.

This was by far the worst experience. where do I begin? The food was awful and everything was either tasteless or old like it was cooked a week prior and warmed up. Not sure who thought it was sanitary to put a plastic artificial flower as “decoration” inside every dish!!! They also thought it was a good idea to start vacuuming and preparing to close an hour before as customers are still eating. It was so loud with the vacuum running that we had a hard time hearing each other. I’m sorry but that is not professional!!! we ended up paying 400+ dinner bill for five of us. So disappointed and embarrassed that I took my friends there. Waste of money and time. One star rating is generous!!!

Went Thursday evening for dinner with family and friends. Warm welcome. Excellent 5 star service. Food was fresh, delicious and beautifully presented. I'm still thinking (and talking) about was a perfect evening we had. Will go back over and over again.

How is this 3.9 stars?! This restaurant is absolutely devine. It's easy to reserve a table and the design is beautiful, the music adds a nice touch and the service is pretty quick, at the table there's a spinning circle which you can spin around to add each of everything on your plate and share with your family and friends. I will be returning.

We usually order takeaway but the restaurant experience was subpar in every way. Fake customer service designed to coax drink orders and food that you don’t want. The har gow is a total ripoff. They only give you two pieces in the restaurant and three when ordering out. The dine in hot sour soup is a fraction of the takeout portion. One staff member is nice, the elderly man who brings cutlery. The rest you can see it’s all an act. And the dizzy young woman who hands out the drink menu makes no sense and she forgot to give us food menus. There wasn’t one Chinese customer. So much money for such mediocre food and pushy and grumpy service. Better to go to Markham or Richmond Hill. The service isn’t much better but the food definitely is.

Went here today after a baptism celebration for my sister in law. Came inside, was welcome pleasantly but that was as good as it gets. Once food was served - it was nothing but constantly checking up on us to see what they can clean up. Within the one hour we were there, it was nothing but constantly asking us if our plates were done and even when my plate was FULL (I was literally still eating), they were asking if my wife’s plate was done beside me. I get it if we were on a certain “time limit” (which was never communicated to us IF we were to begin with) - but please do so with better courtesy. When they had to reach over my plate to get my wife’s plate - a simple “pardon for my reach” would’ve been enough but not a single gesture whatsoever either. Will never go back here again and wouldn’t recommend it ever. Dozens of other options in the area otherwise.

The bad service left a sour taste in our mouths, pun intended. Servers were rushing us to finish our food. We were interrupted multiple times by questions of whether we were done eating, and they took some of our plates away while some stepped out to use the washroom. They also don’t have any diaper change tables and told us to change my baby’s diaper in their basement. For a restaurant that’s been around for years, I would think they’d have installed at least one to accommodate young families. We won’t be coming back

  • 3/5 Lame S. 8 months ago on Google
We usually get takeaway, never dined in, so no comments on service. 3 on food, because the chicken fried rice had no chicken in it! The lemon chicken was OK, but the lemon sauce didn't taste good. There is room for improvements.

Some of the best classic Canadian Chinese food available. Ordered enough variety for 6 people and everyone enjoyed all the dishes. Delivery was on time, hot, and delicious.

Ordered at 10AM for pick up at 7:45PM. Arrive to pick up our order, only to be told it’ll be another hour and a half. We arrived at 9 to collect again, and waited another half hour as they “packed the order”. Thankfully we live close but still a waste of time with no other options left last minute on Christmas Eve. I understand it’s one of their busiest days of the year but they should have stopped taking orders if they couldn’t keep up. The restaurant was full of Uber and Skip drivers. They should have turned off their ordering. It’s called GREED. The food was bland. The chicken dish was 95% onions, and the container was half full. Beyond disappointing experience from start to finish. Unfortunately, after many years as a customer, we will not be returning.

Went out for dinner with my family (family of 5), we have ordered shrimp dumplings which were absolutely delicious never had such amazing shrimp dumplings. We then had some seafood noodles which were delicious and had a variety of seafood items such as huge jumbo shrimps, scallops, calamari and mixed veggies. We then ordered the beef and broccoli which was so delicious and the beef was tender not chewy like most restaurants . Not the mention the service was amazing, the servers were very kind and quick and a very nice lady (which I assume was the owner) also helped server us and was so nice and hospitable it felt as if she welcomed us to her home.
