It's a terrible hostel! Don't go, expensive, dirty, air conditioner just sometimes, the people who works there are not really good, a breakfast with green bread because it was too old, they say yes for laundry but never do it again. Really bad

Very nice location with a roof terrace with a super view. The rooms are nice and have large windows. The big minus are the employees. They seem unmotivated, uninterested and very unfriendly. After checkout you can put your luggage behind a bar... but with the lack of attention of the staff, it seems unsafe.... After checkout you should also immediately leave the hostel because the staff is extremely unfriendly. Showering after check out in the communal showers is also impossible. All in all, one of the worst experiences with hostels. Especially in friendly Brazil.

DO NOT COME TO THIS PLACE!!! I dont even write reviews for my own experiences but this is incredibly bad!! My brother is traveling for the first time overseas, he is the only boy within 4 kids so we are very protective of him :) We are from Colombia. He initially stayed at Selina Copacabana but wanted to explore... Selina was amazing BTW. He decided to book this place for 2 nights so he could decide where else to go. He decided to do it for only two nights because even though he saw the place in person and thought it was awful, he didnt have enough time to find something else. Long story short. Tonight at 8PM he took a Taxi to this place. The taxi driver asked him if he was sure because the place is in a favela, and he said yes. Well, when he got to the place, the front desk person told him to wait for a woman, whom then told him that the manager does not allow COLOMBIANS at the hostel, because we are known THIEVES... What!!!? It was 8pm on a Friday in a bad area!! Copacabana is booked because of the weekend and they decide to not let someone in just because of his nationality. THIS IS CRAZY! They got his money in the morning when he went to pay, they could have told him at the time they was no availability or something. This is jaw-dropping unprofessional, discriminative, and more... Selina did not do this at all, in fact they were so welcoming they invited him to stay during the day just because he did not want to go to this place at all. It was just a matter of need while he found something else. Just so you know, my fellow reader, I am an American-citizen but I also travel with my Colombian passport. We travel a lot, it has NEVER happened to me. I had to call another place in Copacabana from Colombia to confirm availability... This is outrageous and plainly THE WORST CUSTOMER SERVICE EVER! UNBELIEVABLE.

I stayed there in the end of January 2020 (I forgot to make the review at the time) and it was a terrible experience. The owners aren't friendly, the lady was okay but her (appeared to be) son was cold and rude. The room given wasn't as talked on the phone so I had to pay R$60 more to get another room which later I found it was actually a volunteer room! Lucky us the overworking and not well treated volunteers were so kind and made everything in their reach to make our experience less worse. The bathroom was okay but it had the same problems of 5 years ago when this hostel was El Misti (by the way everything was great by then). Breakfast was poor, lockers were rusty and had broken doors. It was cold at night because of the AC that didn't work properly (too high or too low) and we only knew we could get blankets for free because one volunteer told us. The only good thing about this hostel besides the volunteers was the location very close to the beach. The staying was so bad we were out all day, we're never coming back there.

I dont know how this area has such high reviews. I was held up at gunpoint near bar do david close to the hostel. Two guys had guns and one pointed his gun at my head and the people sitting at the restaurant didnt look surprised. It is a long story because they didnt take anything, they were checking that I wasn't a rival gang member or the police. I am glad i could communicate and understand them but it was not a nice experience. It made me leave rio the next day.

very clean hostel, with a location, perfect for those who want cheaper tourism and with the same adventures of super luxury. I recommend it to everyone.
