When you go to the arce on the right side of the square, then you come in the oldest streets of Rio. On the end are many good, simple and cheap restaurants.

Very good whole small shrimp with sauce smothering a type of bread soft and fluffy inside and a wonderful crunchy crust on the bottom. Yum!

Stalls with people selling apparel and other items for the typical tourist.

It is a central hub of public transportation in Ipanema. Lots of dogs passing by. Several lanches und botecas around it. ⚠️ ALERT ⚠️ DO NOT WALK YOUR DOG THERE WHEN IT RAINS!!! My dog was electro-shocked from ground currents from street lights etc. My dog suddenly screamed and jumped. It was heartbreaking, but he survived.

Famous for the Hippie Market which has been going on on Sundays for over 40 years. Ideal to buy Brazilian handcrafs, clothes and paintings.

Couldn't make it to the Futbol game so wet went to the park instead. Very interesting place, lots of life and families and a great palace to boot!

Tuesday mornings until about 14h there is a feira selling fruits, vegetables, greens, fish and cheeses. In addition a wonderful place to buy a tapioca or two.

On one end, the place is very interesting as it is surrounded by restaurants, shops, not far from the beach and it has a subway station (the entrance is super far away from the trains though!). On Sundays, there is a traditional artisan's market where people can buy all kinds of interesting things of various levels of quality and price. During the week, on Tuesdays, there is a street vegetable and fruit market that is one of the most iconic places a person can go to understand the charm of the folk people, the sellers make jokes, sing, give you so much exotic fruit to try that you will not need to eat for the rest of the day and you can see a variety of local flavors and smells (some better then others), as they also sell fish in open air. The reason for 3 stars is that the place is not at all cared for by the local authorities. The pavement is full of potholes, it is dirty and smelly, the fences are broken and it all looks as it has been abandoned by the government with no maintenance. It also works as a main bus stop during the week, making the place noisy and somewhat dangerous, not only by the movement of the cars and buses but the people that hang around there in the early evening. Street baggers and illicit vendors selling fake stuff litter the place and make an otherwise nice place look and feel like a nightmare for this (once upon a time) upscale location.
