I was walking towards the Escadaria Selarón from the Santa Teresa tram station, totally unaware that I was really close to this gem! There's no better way to describe this place, a hidden gem. A mix of a restored historical building with exposed brick structure, combined with a touch of architectural intervention (metal staircases and ramps), and the best feature, an observation tower with one of the most stunning views of Guanabara Bay, Sugar Loaf, Downtown Rio, etc... Words can't describe what you're going to find up there, make sure you bring your camera, phone, anything to capture the amazement of the Rio de Janeiro natural landscape from one of the most beautiful points of view. When you finished, there's a coffee shop at the ground level, where you can relax and let all that peaceful environment surround you. Did I mention it's totally free? Add to your schedule and thank me later.

A beautiful building to visit for free, perfect for taking pictures, it also has a great view of Santa Teresa , cathedral lapa and Rio in general. One of the must is enjoying a calpiriña in the coffee shop while enjoying the view. The crew doesn't speak English or Spanish but there are menus in English

Heard a lot about this place. More expectations than the actual thing is. But still nice and quiet. To reach it climb the Escadaria Selaron to the top and follow the street signs. Takes about 10 minute if you can hike the hill up quickly. After you reach it and see the panoramic view from the top of the ruin mansion delight yourself with a coffee and sweet at the Cafe das Ruinas.

Great spot and urban hike. The artwork on display was great too. The top level was closed off due to safety hazards. No tickets needed, this was free.

A fun place. I was told that this place defined the culture especially for this neighborhood of Santa Teresa in Rio.

Nice view, free place full of instagramers taking pictures. And from an other point of view, that's just the house of an rich heiress that was basically not working and doing parties. She gave this house to a not-science-based-medicine-association that just let this place abandoned.. Nice nah ?

It's a beautiful place with a cool view. There is an art gallery and a theater. However the area where it's located is not very safe. The coffee shop is expensive.

One of my favorite places in Rio. I recommend go in the afternoon and see the sunset there. You can see the city and the Guanabara Bay, such a lovely view! A must go!

Beautiful park on the hill above the Santa Teresa steps. The old mansion ruins plus the modernist steel girders give it a very cool atmosphere and the views of Rio are unbelievable. We looked at some of the art but didn't really take advantage of that aspect of the park.
