Having stayed at this place in the past, I knew it was a good place for some snorkeling. We walked over with plans to take a swim, get some drinks and maybe lunch (to support the business). There was NOBODY there. As we were getting ready to enter the water an extremely rude man walked up and said “this is private property and you need to leave!” He said “didn’t you see the big red signs!?” Of course, the signs say guests and paying customers are welcomed. What it didn’t say was the restaurant seems to have shut down. Anyway, don’t waste your time with this place. They are very rude and when I stayed here previously the rooms weren’t all that nice.

We asked our tour guide to find us a great little out of the way place with great food but not in the tourist trap row. She delivered big time! Right on the water, this little place has reasonable prices and great atmosphere. My husband and I got the kabobs. Oh man, excellent!!!! The kids got grilled fish. Our friends got another fish and everyone loved the food. It did take a few to get the food but it was So worth the wait. There was no one there. No one else in the place and it was So peaceful.

One of the few hotels on the island still enforcing face masks on guests, so if you're big on covid protocols u may like that. Property is a little tired looking. Great location, but there are better choices in west end.

Our stay here was amazing start to finish. It is in a fantastic location if you want to be close to the action in West End but still in a secluded area. Its only 5 minutes away but at night when all the bars and restaurants are loud you can sleep soundly across the bay. Unfortunately the restaurant and dive shop weren’t reopened yet since COVID, but Rene was always in the main building and let us boil water for ramen soups, and borrow some dishes for our early morning cereal breakfasts before going scuba diving every day. If you like to snorkel the spot just in front of the rooms is well known for being a great spot to see all kinds of marine life including octopus and eels. The rooms are simple and clean. We had a mini fridge, fan and AC. The beds were comfortable and we slept very well. The hammock on the front porch of the room got used a lot for some mid-afternoon naps. :)

Half Moon Resort in West End, Bay Island, Roatan, Honduras is NOT just another beach resort with ocean view and sandy beach! It is all that plus MORE! 4 of us recently stayed in the Half Moon resort for 3 nights in May 2022! We had an incredible time at the property. Here are a few things I want to share. #1- I rarely post review, but when I do, that means the place/ owner deserves some recognition, and the public should know something unique about it. #2- I personally visited this place and paid the advertised room rate, my review is my honest opinion. At no time, the manager or the owner of this place ever suggested or "encouraged" me to write this review, this is coming from my heart, so take it or leave it. #3- Please understand that this place is not a FULL Service resort that runs by some big corporation, it is a family-run business, and everyone works there has a name with a huge smile... not fake smile, but honest smile that actually wants to give you the best service that they can offer. During my stay, its bar and restaurant and PEDI center are closed for the season, I was given notice, and I totally expected that. #4- The property is sturdyly built on top of volcanic rocks, all types of room have the rustic beach cottage look/feel, and the rooms function that way, no fancy wall art or expensive decor, just straight up quality wood cabin feel with adequate air conditioning. Again, all your basic amenities are here. But if you are looking for elegant carpet, fancy tiles and 24/7 full concierge service with valet parking, this place is not for you. The bed is not overly firm, exactly the type I want it. The rooms are clean as expected you can find in a beach cottage, if you look for zero sand and ZERO beach insect in or around a beach resort, I think you are being unreasonable. Again, my clean room does have a minor trace of sand and 5-10 small/ non-threatening beach insects, again, I did not get bitten in the room with the AC on. #5- THE REASONS YOU SHOULD STAY HERE! Remember you pay those top $$ and then taking a long boat ride to find a snorkeling spot? How about spend a night at (or 10 feet away) from the reef/ snorkeling spot? Half moon resort uniquely offers you just that. Again, YOU WILL BE SLEEPING STEPS away from a snorkeling spot, I bet you can't easily find that elsewhere! Well, I stumbled upon it. We have our own private beach and private access to the snorkeling spot... all I need is to put on my snorkeling gear (minus the foot gear) at the porch, then you will be snorkeling 30 seconds later.... Enjoy this rare find and kudos to Rene for keeping this place going!!

Wow really nice place. We had a private beach only for us. Quiet and so butiful.

I spent a week at Half Moon Resort recently, and it was my third time staying at the property. Overall, I thoroughly enjoyed my stay! The location is close to the main road, but far enough off it so it is quiet and relaxing. The private beach area is nice, and the snorkeling just off shore is great! Rene, the owner, also helped my family get their needed COVID tests organized for return to Canada, which was very kind of him. There have been a few changes to the resort over the course of the pandemic to be aware of. The on-site dove shop, EcoDivers, has closed. This is unfortunate, but there are still many excellent dive shops open close to the resort. The restaurant has also closed, so there is no longer any coffee in the morning and you have to go into town to eat. Relatively minor details though, considering how lovely my stay was! I'll be sure to be back!

We came in for the day on a cruise ship, asked a local guide, named Curtis, to take us to his favorite quiet spot for snorkeling and good food and THIS place delivers!! Quiet, rustic , charming and great food served outside on waterfront deck! Best beachfront snorkeling we've had! Great memories made with my fam! Would love to spend a week or two in one of the cottages!
