The service at Puerta Azul is what makes it stand apart. The staff is so attentive, they know your name and are always available to answer questions. The front desk was wonderful at helping arranging rides/tours/etc. we also really appreciated the free kayaks, rentable snorkel gear, and being close access to a reef. The food was also delicious and the kitchen staff was equally as wonderful. Where its ranking of a 3-star hotel stood out was in the rooms and grounds. Particularly the amount of bugs in the area. It did get sprayed on the 3rd night of our stay and raked on the 2nd night, but our first few days were brutal with both sand flies and mosquitos. Could be the time of year, but I would’ve hoped the staff could of warned us. Only after we brought it up did they note only Off Deep Woods works with these bugs and must be sprayed all day long. If you’re staying in the one room garden casita (casa mono) it is spacious and the kitchen is appreciated. The bathroom sink could really use an upgrade but didn’t ruin the experience. Please note the neighbor does have chickens that will wake you up come 5am. We didn’t notice until we checked out that there was a pair of ear plugs in the nightstand drawer. Another thing we wish the staff pointed out for us. Note the best swimming is at the end of the dock and not near the beach, in case that’s important to you. There is a lot of shallow sea grass at the start of the beach so it’s not conducive to getting in the water from the sand. Overall good stay for those looking to be away from the crowded scene and have access to reefs.

Just as it is hard to capture the wonder and beauty of this property in pictures, so is it difficult to accurately describe in words. To put it shortly, the Puerta Azul is more than just a place. It’s a frame of mind, an oasis, and an adventure all-in-one that you must experience to truly comprehend. From the moment you step foot on the property, Talia makes certain you are treated like family. The rooms provide all the necessary comforts, from plush beds to extra beach towels, and are nestled in the jungle-like landscaping, with an extraordinary view of seemingly endless miles of calm ocean waters. The food is equally gourmet as it is home-cooked, and without a doubt, made with love using island traditions. The activities available are endless, including snorkeling, boat trips, exploring the reef, and so on. If there’s something you want to do or eat that isn’t available right there on the property, all you need to do is peruse the welcome packet that awaits you in your room, as it includes suggestions that have all been highly curated to provide only the most elevated of experiences. I can’t imagine anywhere else on this island I’d rather stay than at Puerta Azul, and the care and attention to detail that Talia and her team provide make you never want to leave.

A hidden oasis right on the beach. 3 stars for location only due to road conditions and the fact that this is tucked in behind other properties. It's definitely worth finding. The property is beautiful with multiple cabins for lodging. The view of the beach, the ocean, and the sunsets are excellent. The staff is welcoming, accommodating, available, and helpful, but not overbearing. Augusta was a wonderful concierge with robust knowledge of the island, its roads, the customs, restaurants, beaches, and literally every other thing about which we inquired. Our room was serviced each morning while we enjoyed breakfast on the patio where we enjoyed excellent food and conversations with the other guests. The food, by the way, is delicious, well prepared and graciously served.

Wonderful, relaxing stay last October. Steps from the beach and the dock was so much fun to swim from to the reef. Calm and quiet at night. Talia was attentive throughout and her assistant, whose name escapes me now, was great too. Best dinner I had during my visit was here. Won’t be a 30 year wait to return to Roatan. Can’t wait to stay again.

Talia and her staff are simply the best! They are all so friendly and accommodating! The hotel comes with free daily breakfast from 8-9 and on our first day Talia found out that my son likes iced coffee so now each morning she brings it to him! Today the eggs were over-hard and when she saw that he didn’t like that - she made him scrambled eggs! The cook Rose is phenomenal! The meals we have eaten here are some of the best on the whole island! The shrimp & pasta and the coconut shrimp were delicious! I’m not sure why Puerta Azul is listed as a 3 star (I’m guessing because there is no pool or spa) but I’ve stayed in 4 & 4 + star places not nearly as nice as this! I Highly recommend Puerta Azul and we can’t wait to come back again!

I just celebrated my 40th birthday with 4 other friends in Roatan and our stay at Puerta Azul made it so magical. We loved the beachfront accommodations, the incredible snorkeling and paddle board right off the dock, the delicious food and most of the assistance of Talia, the owner and operator of Puerta Azul, who seamlessly planned all our excursions. I cannot wait to come back with my husband and children who will most definitely love it as much as I did!

If you like quiet, private, exclusive, and welcoming places, this is the it! Everything is under 10-15mins away since the island is small and located in the middle of Roatan. We don't like big tourists' resort. The breakfast is included and good food. The owner and staff are very helpful to enjoy our vacation and make an activity plan. We used airport pickup and taxi service. The driver, Javier, is a very nice person. The place is beautiful and clean!

This was an amazing place to stay and the staff make the stay perfect. It is on the water and you have access to kayaks and snorkel gear. The rooms are spacious, clean, and the bungalows have porches with hammocks. The best part as I mentioned is the staff. Augusta is top notch - took care of all taxi needs, activities, and new everywhere to go. The most amazing meals I've had were cooked by Rose each night. All the staff were welcoming, and the space makes you immediately feel relaxed and tropical. This would be a place I'd definitely stay again when traveling in Roatan. The location is away from West End and West Bay which keeps you away from the cruise boats travelers - but only a 10 min taxi to each location.

We just stayed 10 nights at Puerta Azul and we couldn't have been happier. Talia, Augusta, and the rest of the staff were all amazing. They took care of all of our needs and were always available. Everyone was so nice. And Rose in the kitchen may be the best chef on the island. Her food was amazing! The service at the restaurant was excellent as well. Breakfast was good every morning, usually egg forward, like scrambled eggs or omelets, which I appreciated. The room itself was very cute, I felt like I was at summer camp, and I mean that in the very best of ways. There was good AC but by midweek, we never used it again, as with the windows open, we had a great ocean breeze. The front porch and the end of the dock has great hammocks that I could spend all day in. We did multiple excursions from the dock, including 3 and 4 hour snorkel boating trips and the captain Edison and guide Antonio were great. Antonio even made us a GoPro video for no extra cost. Finally, there were multiple stray dogs near the property, and once again, could not have been more of a positive. They were all so sweet! We will be back to Roatan, and we will be staying at Puerta Azul again!

If I could give a 10/10 for a hotel I would give it to Puerta Azul. We stayed here 2 weeks and Talia and her staff made our experience amazing. Best food on the island is cooked by her chef, Rosa. We went to lots of places to eat on the island no place tasted better than her cooking. You can Snorkel to the second largest coral reef system in the world just a some minutes from the end of the pier. There's an octopus that lives below the pier. We saw tuna, puffer fish, queen angel fish, lion fish, just to name of a few. Talia, also has an extensive roladex of trusted drivers/tour guides/businesses on the island that can make your stay customized to whatever you want. She went above and beyond at every request and we are truly thankful.

Magical hotel on a magical island. Puerta Azul is a once in a lifetime experience full of pinch-me moments. From the lush jungle landscape to the private beach and fresh, homemade food, it exceeds every expectation. Beautiful rooms and grounds with plenty of spots to chill out and take in the serene ambiance. Also snorkeling just off the hotel dock is incredible!! You will instantly feel at home at Puerta Azul and regret not staying longer! Talia is the best.

Perfect. There is too much good to write here. Snorkelling from the dock was fantastic, our room was immaculate and cute, the grounds were lush and beautiful, the staff was excellent, and the food was delicious. More important for me was the overall atmosphere Talia created - the ballance of friendliness, attention and privacy was really a work of art. This is exactly what a boutique hotel/b&b should be. Even the guests (mostly returnees apparently) were great. Belize and Roatan have been our vacation spot for the past six years, and this is my absolute favorite in either country. Thanks to Talia and the staff and we will see you again!

Staying at Puerta Azul was by far my best experience that I have ever had staying away from home. The property is absolutely beautiful with lush green plants and flowers surrounding many places to relax. The staff was extremely friendly and very happy to help with whatever it was we needed. The chef prepared the best meals we had from anywhere on the island which was nice not to have to leave the property to eat. I can't stress enough how good the food was! The room we stayed in was very clean, comfortable and had everything we needed. The bed was very comfortable with nice linens. The internet seemed very reliable and pretty fast which is always a nice bonus if you are remote working. There is also a boat on the property that you can request to go out on for a small fee that will take you fishing or snorkeling. Or you can use the paddle boards or Kayaks that are offered by Puerta Azul! This place has it all! I will be back for sure! Thank you so much to the owner, Talia for making our stay memorable. You can tell she takes pride in her business!

We actually got to check two different rooms since the ocean front cottage was not available for our whole stay, and were very happy with both. Both had King size beds, and good quality sheets and pillows. Breakfast is included in your nightly rate, and so far, delicious hot, fresh meals. You also have the option to purchase lunch and dinner, you just need to give them heads up and they are very good at accommodating special diets. I'm vegetarian and there was no problem. You have a dock where you can just sit and relax, or take a swim to the nearby reef. I got lucky to see a spotted ray right from it. For location I gave it a 4, only because there are locals houses on both sides and it was a bit noisy with dogs barking and roosters, (but for some it is not an issue), and people are friendly and courteous.the place is just a 15 min drive from the Airport and another 10 to West End where you have many options for restaurants, gift/souvenir and SCUBA shops.

Beautiful bungalow in the jungle. We stayed in Casa mono, and it was clean spacious and very comfy large bed. Remember that you are in the country side so even if you are by the ocean you will hear roosters and woodpeckers early in the morning. We were greeted by Augusta and she was a sweetheart, always super helpful, and all the other guests were friendly. Our stay was extremely pleasant. If there would be a pool, this property would definitely have it all. For the price, you will not get any better. It is a bit away from all the action, but they have these taxis that take you where you need to go for very cheap, and it’s a lot more relaxing. Beautiful property highly recommended

Can we talk about how amazing Talia is..? Best host I’ve ever met… she’s friendly, helpful, and an amazing chef. The location is perfect, away from the hustle and bustle of town. Great snorkeling and great rooms. If you want a get away this is your spot. Give Talia your love, she deserves it.

We had a great time at Puerta Azul! It was very laid back and friendly. There was enough around there with the hammocks, nearby reef, kayaks and good food that we could relax the whole day there but it was also easy to get a cab from nearby and explore other parts of the island. We would definitely go back to Puerta Azul!

I adore this property - incredibly beautiful and relaxing! Ms Rose was amazing - I so appreciate getting to sit and chat with her.... truly a heart of gold. And she's a phenomenal chef! Monica was great - I encountered an allergen and needed to go to urgent care. She had a cab ready and had already called ahead to the urgent care to get pricing and ensure they were open as it was a Sunday. The only downside for me was that I'd hoped to have more options within walking distance for a quick drink, snack, etc...I prefer exploring local shops, bars, restaurants.

This is a special place run by special people. absolutely gorgeous property and the snorkeling right off the dock is spectacular.!!! We stayed in the one bedroom casita. It was comfortable and and clean. Had a little kitchen. From our pick up at the airport to our ride back to airport we were well taken care of. The kitchen staff even accommodated by plant based (Monica was very supportive in this). diet which was a surprise. They also made us a beautiful flower arrangement for our anniversary!! We were greeted every morning with smiling faces and delicious breakfast. These ladies in the kitchen work hard and are sweet as ever!! Hopefully we will return. Thank you everyone for a wonderful Anniversary trip!! Tom and Elena

First of all, stop looking just book this one. talia was very responsive and quick to answer all of my questions and made sure someone was at the airport to greet us at the luggage screening and escort us to the property. She was also able to book us a magical massage where the therapist met us right in our room. Every staff member greeted us with a smile and was eager to help with whatever we needed. Do yourself a favor and eat as much of ms roses cooking as you can get snapper was the the best meal we had on the island (we had it twice) the environment welcomes both a sense community as well as solitude, so whatever you’re looking for it is here. Also, you are a swim away from the reef, so ample snorkeling with rentals on the property.

Stop reading here and go directly to book your stay. You've stumbled on to a hidden gem on the island. We stayed here 2 weeks and really enjoyed ourselves. They have everything you need, Talia and her crew will attend to all your needs, from arranging excursion to reservations for dinner. Or, do as we did and just chill most of the time and eat at the restaurant on premise, Rose and her folks run an excellent kitchen. You can borrow the snorkeling gear and go right off the 400' long dock, or use one of thier kayaks and paddle about. They are just about a 10 minute ride in a "collectivivo" for $2 pp to the West End where there are many choices for food, drinks, and activities. The cabins are newish and clean have AC, comfortable bed, and a small refer for beverages and leftovers.

My wife and I stayed here for a week and absolutely loved it. I wish they would hire a hit man for the neighborhood rooster so bring your earplugs😉 Talia is the best ever! The food is delicious! We did a discovery dive with Antonio. He was so kind, competent, knowledgeable, and patient. We can’t wait to go back P.S. Talia and Antonio drove several miles to deliver some shoes we had left after checkout. Thanks a million 🙏

😐 Lovely, quiet property with lovely views! Very clean and helpful, kind staff. Just a few minutes walk to shops and eateries along the West End strip. 5 minute walk to Jackson's Dive shop and Moana Divers. Plenty of space on the large balcony to dry your stuff after diving. We will be back!
