Seneca Park Zoo is a nice place for people. The caged animals on the other hand, seem miserable. They’re kept in cages that are way too small, and some of them are completely alone (tiger, polar bear, lion). The indoor reptiles in their terrarium have plenty of room and would be fine IF there weren’t ten kids taping on the glass and speaking loudly. Hire more staff to ensure the reptiles aren’t bothered by kids, and make the animals sanctuaries MUCH bigger. And no more lone animals- it leads to them becoming depressed.

I went with my daughter's class for their class field trip. It was tough during winter as many of the animals were inside, it was a windy and cold day but was still a fun experience. We were still able to see many animals and even had a little personal session for the kids to learn about a few of the animals with two of the zoo staff members. The summer is the best time to go as there are more animals out and about. I can't wait to take all my kids there again.

I drove two hours for this zoo! Um yeah it’s so much better than the Buffalo zoo for sure! FREE PARKING!! Animals are actually H A P P Y!!!! You have staff giving talks about the animals. You can feed the giraffes with an extra free. The play ground was fun for the kids!!! Enclosures were great sizes! The lions were actually TOGETHER! The Buffalo zoo separates the lions!! Three complaints though the wolf is a pack animal they only had one in the enclosure and two the owls should have a larger enclosure they have all of that trees behind them should expand that. And third and final the Tiger was in the dark. They should have an enclosure like the lions do. THE ELEPHANTS WERE NOT CHAINED UP OUTSIDE LIKE THE BUFFALO ZOOS WHERE! Or inside!!!! I will return to this zoo again!

First time here we had a great time. We came on a Sunday. It wasn't very crowded at all. Perfect weather. I actually had to wear a long sleeve shirt. The park is very clean and I have to say the animals were very well cared for. Happy content and if you think that you cannot tell if an animal is happy and healthy where it's at then you're mistaken. I loved how well kept the grounds are. Most areas are in the shade. You can take a tram all the way around the park. The food is very reasonable and the memories will last a lifetime. And the staff is very courteous and helpful. I think I had more questions for them than the children. We took four rounds of the park and I still found something new every time. I definitely recommend this for small children. We will definitely be back.

The atmosphere is great! The massive kid play area is great. Only down fall is to be honest we really didn't see many animals. The few we did were awesome cause they were close up. They could definitely use a fee more things to do there. Finished the whole zoo in about 45 mins

I have been to Seneca Park Zoo many times growing up in the Rochester region and it is a true treasure for the area. The park is well-maintained and the animals usually seem generally happy and healthy. The park has plenty of spots to sit and rest and multiple bathrooms and locations to purchase food and gifts. The park has had many great extensions throughout the years. I would highly recommend visiting Seneca Park Zoo if in the Rochester area.

For a small city zoo, the Seneca Park Zoo does a decent job. Friendly and knowledgeable staff helps make the experience worthwhile. You can tell that the organization is trying to add more exhibits to the menagerie of animals but does not get a lot of funding. They would benefit from those willing to go and support the zoo even though there are bigger and better zoos around. There is a temporary playground that is really neat. While preparing for the next exhibit, trees were cut and the ground was leveled. The trees were made into an awesome playground. Branches were chipped for the mulch. Could’ve spent hours just at the playground. My kids had a blast here enjoying the outdoors.

The Seneca Park Zoo is always expanding and creating better habitats for the animals. The park has lions and elephants and giraffes. I could spend hours watching them. Not only is the zoo amazing but behind the zoo is a wonderful park. In the summer a pair of swans makes the pond in the park their home. They raise chicks every year. There are geese and ducks as well. It is a great place to walk and enjoy nature.

This is a beautiful place, and perfect place to have peaceful stroll. I randomly went to this location, and it’s worth it. It’s a quite good place to spend time with kids. As all zoos they gave the popular wild animals like wolf, snow leapord, tiger, polar bear, lion and red panda. The other animals they have are elephant, rhino, giraffe, zebra, sea lion, penguins, owl, and few reptiles. Besides animals, it’s a beautiful park with trails to walk around. It is a quite area and seems peaceful. The entry is $10 and not crowded. I expected to be someone there to guide and give much more details about animals.

This zoo is very nice and the staff are really friendly. They are always in sight and you can ask questions about the exhibits that are happening. There is a good selection of Safari animals. I really enjoyed the elephants. The cafeteria was open and the place isn’t crowded.

Seneca Park Zoo is a nice, little zoo. This was the second stop in an upstate zoo tour. It is not a 'destination' zoo for a trip for most people as you can pretty well cover it satisfactorily in less than an hour (though I spent the day) but it's a great experience for a morning or afternoon excursion. It has a very unusual, looong east-west layout and there is one path to the back and that's your path out. No 'regions' or 'ecosystems' so to speak and the trail runs, generally, along the north side of all the habitats making photography, especially late in the year, very challenging if the sun's out. Fairly well done habitats for the limited space. The lion habitat offers some opportunities to get 'up close and personal' though the shot I got eye to eye with the one lioness had too much glare/reflection to be that 'special' shot. The baboons are very active and, again, the habitat allows for some close up encounters. Seeing the lynx feeding and getting their story from the keeper was a bonus. Nice sea lion habitat. Elephants, rhino and seeing giraffe 'training' rounded out a beautiful day. Oddly, the river otters, who normally are a highlight of any zoo visit, were rolled up in a ball, sleeping all day. Staff here is very engaging and professional. This zoo also has ASL signage at all habitats. Something I've never encountered at any other zoo, which was very interesting. Some are actually 'motion' in that, as you pass, the person actually goes through the signing. Very affordable and free parking.

Spent the day at the zoo with my sons school, not a lot was open. The kids had fun. However, there’s really no landscaping. Nothing was open for food. The back end of the park where the giraffes were was closed. The drive into the park is really uninviting. A lot of homeless people sleeping in tents. I want to be proud of the place we love but this is really sad.

My kids and I have been member for 20 years now and love having a place to go spend quality time together and just take a break from the business of life. We are also animal lovers. Our membership is worth it for my family because we visit at least 5-10 times a year but it also includes discounts of 50% or 100% off admission at participating zoo’s around the country. Which we have taken advantage of as well. They hold a wide variety of events for all ages. My children are now 20 & 16 and still love going there and also bring up how they have so many good memories their. They are also now in the process of expanding the zoo and we can’t wait to see what’s to come.

Half the animals weren't even in there enclosures, very disappointed. If you show your medicaid card you can get in for $1 per person but then it cost $9 for a slushie and a bottled water (aluminum can) was like $5. Don't get me wrong I know food and drinks at places like the zoo cost a little more then outside. But the place as a whole was not impressive at all and I probably will never go back I will stick with Syracuse zoo

Excellent smaller zoo with a big zoo feel and big zoo animals. Well maintained and nice habitats. Would definitely come back!

Smaller zoo that is more kid friendly than most. A large playground at the entrance is great and there are quite a few other play activity areas for the kid. Digging fossils and what not. It is a great zoo to mosey through and enjoy for what it is. A smallish zoo. They have an old bus in the lion exhibit you can get on and be right next to the lion.... it's one of my favorite features at a zoo ever....We loved it.

Love the Seneca Park Zoo! I always have a wonderful time and this is my second year of having the zoo membership. I am always grateful I can drive less then 30 minutes and see beautiful exotic animals. Yes, the zoo is smaller than others but, it very clean and animals are healthy/ well cared for. The zoo also has special events like the Zoo Brew for adult time and a bunch more the options. Definitely worth the time and money.

Though it is older and smaller than many zoos, we love this local attraction. There are always docents present to have a wealth of knowledge, and are very friendly to talk to. The kids enjoy the sea lion and polar bear exhibit every time we go. There are so many animals who love visitors as much as we love watching them.

For the price, this place is beyond expectations. I was pleasantly surprised by the quality of animals for a smaller zoo, as I can't say I expected big cats and multiple large African species, plus a polar bear! All the animals have impressive habitats, and there's so much interaction for kids. If I lived closer I would absolutely get a membership for regular visits.

The zoo has a nice layout. There were a lot of good displays to see different animals. We went on a Friday when it wasn't too busy. After every couple exhibits, there were poster boards with questions from volunteers. Most of the questions were good for elementary school-aged kids. We paid a little extra to feed the giraffes, which the kids loved.

Seneca park zoo is such an easy day for kids and adults. It is small enough to do in one day, or in a few hours. There is always workers around to tell you about the animals. Friendly consessions, with plenty of options. You can also bring in food. Don't skip the gift shop, so many cute options! There are additional experiences and a tram car during warm months.

Going to the Seneca Park Zoo in the winter is better than any other time of the year! The animals are far more active, very few people, the animals were so responsive, and above all, seemed much more at ease. The otters were having so much fun, the elephants were just as interested in me as I was in them, and the show leopard was totally in his element sitting on a snow mound in the sunshine. Winter at the zoo is magical!

Awesome fall day! The park was nicely decorated, all the staff was super friendly, it was clean and smelled like fall leaves and hay. All the animals were up and about, the lion was roaring, the wolves were meandering, and the sea lions flopping around at the speed of sound. Only thing I didn't see was the otters. :( But their enclosure was great. Haven't been here since high-school days, it's lovely, they've done a nice job. Lots of seating, disability access and thoughtfulness put into making it easy to get around/enjoy. Could use more places to grab a plain bottle of water but that's pretty much my only criticism. Awesome, awesome zoo. :)

Many animals were not in there enclosures at 1-3 pm visit. Didnt have a bad time but would have been nice to see more. They have a pretty good one way system and timed ticket starts to help keep guests apart during covid

We havent been to the zoo in a long while. And yesterday was a nice 38 degree January day with no snow! So we decided on a whim to take the kids. Due to covid we did reserve and purchase our tickets online. The zoo is on a one way in and out path system and I loved that. We got to see everything (the red pandas were very active and super cute!) We weren't rushed at all and it was a great day. Oh and we finally got to see the giraffes! Cant wait to go back already.

These animals are clearly MISERABLE and NEGLECTED. Their enclosures are way too small, the Tiger was going insane walking around in circles for hours and the Red Panda was doing it too. The Lion was howling like he was in distress the whole time we were there and clearly nobody at this zoo cares about these animals at all. It was miserable being here I wanted to cry. I would not support this Zoo, someone needs to take these animals away!

Love this place. Great for a nice walk and the new additions are pretty sweet. There are a couple animal cages I wish were bigger but I feel like they are getting there. The temporary natural playground is absolutely the best in the area. We like to walk the zoo then the adults and kids get to play before leaving lol

I read online that they had 300 animals and there was not nearly that many. The animal they have are awesome and they have a really nice park for kids made of trees and ropes. It has bridges and all kinds of climbing fun. They have a bunch of big African mammals which is nice. Overall it was a great experience but zoo is not as big as expected and not a lot animals.

The Seneca Park Zoo was a fun experience for my family, which we turned into a Home School Field Trip! Educational &Fun! My only Complaint is that when you arrive at the window, they ask you if you want to buy tickets for the Giraffe 🦒 Feeding & The Tram Ride but they do not explain to you the details! Also you need to print out a map of the zoo ahead of time to bring with you as they don't have any! 😬 So Giraffe Feeding & Tram Ride were a waste of our $27. Also make sure to get tickets online in advance and arrive before 1pm otherwise you may not have time to see everything unless you rush through. Enjoy the photos! 😊

dates fill up fast even with a season pass, also it's hard to pick time to go with a 1 year old and planning around naps and being over a half hour away. there still isn't any monkeys, maybe the next time we go we will play on the playground area they have in its place. I wish they're were more areas to sit, they have it laid out so you can only walk on certain paths. over by savanna area they're isn't any shade and the concession down at that area isn't open nor can you use water fountains due to covid, so make sure you grab drink at top concession near playground the walk is long and hot, especially well pushing or holding a baby.

Have been coming here since I was a child and now I love to take my niece. They have been growing the exhibits to be humane for the animals as standards continue to evolve and staff are there to provide educational insights as well. The whole family just went to the zooboo which was so much fun! The only critique is they switched food providers this year and it is not worth the money.

The Seneca Zoo is located along the genesee River in Rochester ny. The parking lot has many handicap spaces available and is large and clean and safe. The zoo has gone through a lot of changes in the history of the zoo. The zoo has made changes to the homes of the animals so they feel more comfortable with there environment. Great job to the employees who keep this zoo clean and safe for everyone to enjoy. The pretzels I bought today at the restaurant were yummy 😋 Thank you to the employees who keep our animals healthy and fed. Gerry

This Zoo is fantastic, beautiful, and full of love for the animals. Although small compared to others, it packs a big visual punch for its visitors. The exhibits are amazing and provide a real view into the domicile of the wildlife. The animals look happy, relaxed, and well taken care of in their environment. I enjoyed the natural lay of the park, and the well written passages that taught me about its residents. I highly recommend Seneca Park Zoo to all travelers passing through Rochester, NY.

I went on a weekday with my kid, it wasn't too busy. We bought our tickets ahead, it was $21 altogether. I was very happy to see that many improvements have been made to the zoo since I last visited more than 15 years ago and more are in progress. The zoo offers a lot of free programs during the summer with admission. We were able to experience a presentation from the sandhill crane Keeper, Meagan, who was also very knowledgeable about the snowy owls and many other animals. There were also sea lion and penguin exhibitions (though not obviously not together). On other days, there are giraffe feedings for a $5 fee. The zoo has several cafes and multiple snack vendors spaced throughout the area, as well as many drinking fountains and restrooms. You can also bring your own food and make use of the tables and benches provided.

Seneca Park Zoo is nice for a quick stroll to visit a few animals. Nicely shaded on most paths. Not too steep of a hill for walking back when you're done. Great place to take the kiddos. They have a wonderful kids ropes/play area at the entrance to help the kids get the wiggles out. Inviting indoor spaces to view animals and rest too. The tram to get back to the entrance is a wonderful feature. The zoo is kind of small so take your time and look at everything on the way to the end.

It’s hard to compare Seneca Park to other zoos but it’s great for families to spend a couple of hours and see something you don’t get to see every day. There are still a couple exhibits where if you can’t see the animal there then there isn’t much to read or interact with which I think is a missed opportunity. It might also be a good idea to suggest more places animals may be hiding for those who can’t see them very quickly. I can understand the hesitation to not have signs of good times that are likely to see the animals but the ones that did felt more assuring. Still, this offers lots of fun even if one or two exhibits don’t have a lot going on. Not too crowded at all either.

One of the best zoos in Upstate NY. Although the zoo is smaller in size, they have a great variety of animals. The animal experiences are a must visit. The zoo is clean and well maintained. There are a couple of decent restaurants and good shade almost everywhere. Within a couple of hours you can cover the entire zoo.

The Seneca Park Zoo is a great experience for all ages. They have different experiences for visitors during the day. The staff are all so friendly and answer questions well, and the animals look well-looked after and taken care of - they also seem happy and comfortable. Plenty of restrooms, food and drink, and other facilities like picnic tables and benches for rest spots throughout the zoo. Nice tram you can take for $2 up or down the zoo. We were thrilled that Anoki the polar bear was out when we visited! Check it out if you’re near Rochester in New York.

Lots of amazing animals and many of them seemed more content and playful than other zoos I have visited. All of the new play areas and kid friendly areas are awesome! My Family and I love the Seneca Park Zoo! We hold a annual membership which is definitely a great value, especially if you live in the area. They've done some great expansion projects in recent years that have made the zoo an exciting place to visit again and again. We love buying tram tickets upon arrival, walking the length of the zoo, and then riding the tram back up front at the end of the day. The zoo is definitely a gem in Rochester!

Seneca Park Zoo is a Rochester gem the zoo would be the first place I would take anyone from out of town. The Animals always look happy and well taken care of and the exhibits are nicely sized for the Animals. It's very easy to access the zoo from any point in the Rochester area it's right off the 104 expressway if you drive or the number 35 RTS bus route stops right at the entrance to the zoo if you take public transit. My favorite area Is the new animals of the savanna exhibit a must see exhibit if you go the Seneca Park zoo. When in upstate New York I would also reccmond the Buffalo Zoo as well

I was at this zoo yesterday and I was really impressed. They had a lot of animals for a small city zoo. The layout was really good and easy to navigate. We were able to talk to the zookeepers about some of the different animals and they were extremely friendly and knowledgeable. There is a really large play area for kids when you walk in and then a few other things for them to play on throughout. You get to actually get really close to all the animals which I’ve never experienced before. And they have a little building where you can order food and drinks I think it was called the Eagles Landing. It was great and I had an amazing time there! Will definitely be back.

A lot of the animals weren't visible in their enclosures. The lions were cool though. Was fun hearing the lion roar.

Terrible living sanctuaries for wild animals! The pythons are too big for their small glass enclosures and the wildcats can't roam free around the empty fenced in land! How could the employees blindly support this company even after watching day by day neglect! This angers me and I bet it'd upset plenty of wildlife rescue organizations as well! When will the captivity of wild animal's become more safe and comfortable for the animals themselves! They deserve better! And I hope to find these neglected animals a new home, somewhere preferably closer to their natural habitat and climate, UNLIKE THE COLD STATE OF NEW YORK.

Had a nice afternoon with my grandson and his friends on Veterans' Day. Everyone was very conscientious dealing with this Covid 19 situation

Love the zoo! Newer playground area is great for kids, but keep a close eye on them, it's a natural wood play area so splinters and falls are part of the game.

This zoo has peppy animals and nice staff very friendly and you can chat with them they do online ticket sales and they limit the number of tickets sold but once you enter you can stay till close the best animals I liked were the wolves the sea lions the tiger and the lions

A simple and cool attraction that can be visited and several species of animals can be seen. The layout allow you to get close to the animals and almost touch them. Seneca Zoo is an awesome place to visit and spend time. Will return.

One of the best zoo's I've ever been too.

Small zoo inside a park but there is a lot to see, even in winter. Free parking, adults are $10 and kids are free the month of February. Most indoor buildings are open to go inside and warm up in. The red pandas, wolves, and otters are especially active in the winter. Masks are required at all times but it wasn't very busy when we went on a Sunday so I was not worried about COVID

It is amazing how much this place has changed. The animals are beautiful and amazing. The employees are eager to help or answer any questions you may have. It is definitely a place to be with family and/or friends, especially if you love animals.

Great little zoo to bring the kids to. It was a super hot day but there are indoor exhibits to help you cool down a bit and shared picnic tables where you can sit, eat, and relax. Easy to walk through the entire zoo in a couple of hours. We were able to see a zookeeper feed the penguins and he gave some background info on the animals and answered questions too. We had a really enjoyable time.

This Zoo is fantastic. All of the animals were out today. The staff is super friendly, and the cost of admission is more than fair for such a nice zoo. My daughter got to feed Giraffes!!! This is really a great place. So much in a not so huge space so not tons of walking. Great play area for kids. RUN DON'T WALK TO THIS ZOO. FREE PARKING!

Love the zoo! We went for a private event so not all that f the animals were still out. But we had a good time and the food was good. Lots of construction going on. It looks like there doing a lot of expansion.

Very nice zoo! Good variety of animals & reasonable admission fee.

Very nice, small zoo with a good variety of animals. There's essentially one path taking you from the entrance all the way to the back, so you get to see all the exhibits twice. Almost every single species was visible, which made the trip extra enjoyable. There's a nice mix of indoor and outdoor veiwing. Staff was sparce, but very friendly and knowledgeable. My only complaint was that they only had food open at the front of the zoo. It would have been great to buy at least a hot beverage at the back of the zoo to enjoy on our return walk.

All animals very active, more active in the cold weather. Old building in the front demolished, new exhibit going in. So much more modern and better for the animals.

Nice little zoo in a scenic surrounding. Couldn't see the Polar bear though, bad luck!

We took our 2 year old son to the zoo for the first time and I'm not sure who loved it more! We had the best time ever looking at all the different animals in their habits. I remember one was even doing something inappropriate, those darn orangutans. I can't wait until we go back.

I enjoyed very much my visit to the zoo! The animals are very well taken care of and have a very spacious living ambient. Hope to come back soon!

Got to visit the zoo for an after hours event with a catered picnic 😋 I've lived near this zoo for my entire existence. How special to have a place like the Seneca Park Zoo in our community! It's a fun place to visit with friends and family, and the variety of animals is surprising! All of the big cats and wolves are my favorite to see! Absolutely a must-see in Rochester 🙂

"Small but Mighty" is the word that came to mind when we visited Seneca Park Zoo for the very first time. Seneca Park houses a diverse group of very special animals from all around the globe. It is home to a pride of Lions, a baby giraffe, a pack of grey wolves, a trio of elephants, a white Rhino, a Siberian tiger, a colony of African Penguins, and an International variety of primates, reptiles, insects, and birds of prey. The Seneca Park Zoo provides a safe environment, for both humans and animals, for people of all ages to learn about and connect with the natural world. It truly is a beautiful place filled with interesting wildlife run by a professional and dedicated staff.

It's currently under construction, but a perfect place for my 2 small children who love animals. They took our local Zoo Membership Pass, so we receives 50% off admission. We only paid $13.50 for 2 adults, 1 child and it was free for my 2 year old. Loved the sea otters, Polar bear, and sea lion exhibitions. We went during winter, and they had alot of animals inside, which was great for us !

Nice little zoo. I like that it’s laid out in a straight line and you don’t have to double back to go to different areas to see different regional animals. We spent a good 2.5hrs there with our 8 month old. A lot of the animals were in their dens. We didn’t get to see the river otters at all and barley caught the river, polar bear, and snow leopard among others. They don’t have a lot of animals but if you’re looking for a family friendly outing this is a nice spot to spend the day. The canteen was serving up some awesome looking burgers at really good prices too. We didn’t have a chance to taste them because we ate before going, but would definitely eat on-site if we ever go back.

Firstly, I feel the enclosures are far too small for the animals here. That said, they all seem very well taken care of and happy. There are a wide variety of animals to see!

We have a membership and love the zoo! It's a beautiful place to visit for families, couples, friends or take a quiet stroll alone. They have animals of all species and their staff are helpful and knowledgeable about the animals and park happenings. There are air conditioned buildings through out the zoo to stop into if you need to cool off. As well as drink dispensers if you need a cold beverage.

One of the better small market zoo visits. Great for the kids with natural elements used for the play area. The tram runs only peak summer months so I had to get my steps in.

Always had that small zoo charm visiting it as a kid. This still holds true on my first visit as an adult. Animals are always friendly and excited to show off for the zoo goers. Staff and volunteers friendly and always willing to answer questions. Very clean with lots of shade and benches. Good fun for 2-3 hours depending on how long one spends at the exhibits.

This was our second time enjoying the zoo. The facility is very clean and the cost to enter is very reasonable. As any other attraction place you pay quite a bit for the items you may want inside the facility. The only thing we were bummed about was not seeing the Zebras. Both tines we were there the Zebras weren't out. We could see them in the back pen but not out for viewing. Maybe a schedule posted online of when is the best time to see the animals would be good.

I will start with a few bad points. The amount of animals is lacking. We were able to see all of the animals and be back to the beginning of the zoo within an hour. They have limited species. Some of which seemed awfully depressed. I was also feeling some concern with callus like "sores" on the butts of the "monkeys". And the gift shop is highly overpriced. Some of the exact same items can be found at the dollar store for far less. Some good points was the huge playground area they have for kids. Cost was decent and they offer a museum for all discount. The "facts" about the animals were also great, interesting and fun to read.

Very cute little zoo and very affordable when we visited (late October) Not busy at all and it took us about 2 hours to go through it at an easy pace. Easy to navigate and see everything it has to offer. It pretty much is a straight line till the end where the giraffes are. Obviously this place would probably be packed in the summer and experience would be different but I enjoyed having zoo to myself. I didn't have to wait for people to get out of way to take any pictures. Most of the stands and places to eat were closed but it was fine. I was disappointed the giraffe feeding was closed though. It would have been nice. Like I said not too big so maybe plan something else along with the visit here. Rochester has lots of things to do nearby.
