We stayed in Ticehurst for a few days and visited The Bell Inn for Sunday lunch. Wow ! Greeted by very friendly staff and shown to a cosy table with a log fire roaring near by. I rarely write reviews but felt that the service and food here were that incredible it deserves one. The roast beef and veg were to die for and plenty of amazing gravy. The deserts were just as lovely and obviously the chef knows what they are doing .. sticky toffee pudding the best I’ve ever had!! The service was brilliant and attentive. The pub is very dog friendly which suited us. Overall a wonderful experience and will return when we come back to the area..Congratulations to the team at The Bull Inn

Genuinely the best country side stay I’ve had in England. The place is incredible, so rustic and authentic, cosy and beautiful. We stayed 2 nights but it’s one of the rare hotels where I WANT to go back! The lodges are fantastic, and the staff is great (like really great). We had an amazing time and I will be back. Thanks a lot

We came for the New Year's Eve dinner while staying elsewhere in the village. A wonderful seven course taster meal, we both tried everything and enjoyed even the things that 'on paper' we wouldn't usually go for, it was all beautifully prepared. Very good wine selection. The staff were lovely and couldn't do enough for you despite being short-staffed. Came back for a drink a few nights later and very cosy atmosphere in a lovely building. Absolutely recommend.

Stayed here to do a Curious House course. Fantastic course in a feast of an environment. Curios abound in a warren of wooden beamed rooms. The most comfortable bed I think I've ever slept in. Love the vibe here, food is pretty fab too!

Cannot comment on the rooms. Served cold roast beef, very bloody in Sunday lunch. Sent it back as I cannot eat cold, bloody meat and no apology, returned lukewarm. The rest of the meal was also lukewarm with dried out roast potatoes. Thin gravy poured everywhere. Stroppy staff, after asking it to be heated. Ate it as we were very hungry and didn't want a scene. Dessert was incredible. Lovely decor and dog friendly.

Stopped here with Sunday lunch after a local walk. It was my first time visiting and I can’t tell you one thing that was disappointing. The staff were fantastic. Friendly and accommodating. The atmosphere reminds you of how wonderful English pubs are and the food was outstanding. I had the roast pork and it was delicious. I can’t wait to return to try the other dishes. Thanks so much

What a lovely, different and chill place to eat. As we arrived greeted by a lovely waiter called Oscar who politely took us outside to our preferred table and served us. Food… amazing. Absolutely gorgeous he advised us the burger was a good option and oh my it was! Oscar really made our evening and our meal though. He was quirky and funny and me and my other half really enjoyed his company and he made us feel welcome and informed about everything. Will definitely be coming back for the ginks the cat and the food and the service

My sister and I visited for the comedy night last night, which was great! We booked a table to have something to eat before it started, but it was busy, so we were told they would get our food out as soon as possible, so we thought it would be wise to order something smaller.. we both went for the Open Ciabattas, I had egg mayo with cress, and my sister opted for the cheese and ham.. I thoroughly enjoyed mine, but my sisters ham and cheese was not nice, having both tried it.. so I wouldn't personally recommend it.. Nice pub, not a lot of parking.. Nice garden area.

We spent a lovely evening at The Bell in Ticehurst last night. Lovely food, particularly Kenny’s apple pie. Friendly, efficient service, and great surroundings. It’s very quirky in a good way. Love the stack of books in the middle of the room and the bowler hat lamps. We met a lovely couple and chatted to them for part of the evening. Great atmosphere. Thoroughly enjoyable evening. Thank you!

We visited The Bell multiple times during our week-long local stay in Ticehurst and we couldn't get enough of the place! The pub has a fun, quirky vibe to it and the customer service, food, local beers and atmosphere are all simply fantastic. Every meal we had there was so delicious, especially the tasting menu at the stables which was off the charts!!! The staff made us feel so welcome and were great with our dog who can be a a little nervous. This place was the highlight of our holiday - we'll definitely return!

The place seems to be quite busy. Which is a good thing the atmosphere is good. The garden is very lovely but the oak tables Could do with some attention. I popped in here on my way home from a Day of cycling. I bought a drink and asked One of the bar staff if I could have a food menu. I was told very Abruptly and if I'm honest In a very rude way. That there was a backup of Orders and I will not be able to order any food. This was at 7 o'clock in the evening.

Attended a wedding at the Bell, the food was incredible, The staff were very considerate and went above and beyond to accommodate families in particular. The venue was a stunning and really memorable day for everyone. Will be back for dinner and drinks again.

From the moment we walked in, everything about the Bell was apparently just right. A busy bar with good ale. Dog friendly throughout with a wonderful letter personalised to our dog by name and including poo bags, toys and treats. The staff are all charming and the location in the centre of the village is perfect. Evening menu was limited, but the food was excellent and breakfast was equally good. The whole place is very quirky and doesn't take itself too seriously. The dining room ceiling is apparently held up by a column of books, we had a tree and a barbers chair in our room! Overall a great find and I can see why it has won awards 'apparently'!

A wonderful stay we had here in one of the huts for our anniversary. A year ago we had our wedding here and it was an amazing day. The staff at The Bell were simply awesome and made the day so easy, they were all super helpful and did everything they could to make the day as special as they could. I couldn't be more grateful to all the staff here to made our day so special. The rooms here are amazing, the huts in particular are one of the best rooms I have stayed in. Loads of little nice touches, lovely decoration and themes in all the rooms, and great quality products and bedding in the room. We had a roast dinner here and it was one of the best roasts we've had at a pub. We also had breakfast here and the quality of all the ingredients was exceptional. I love going to this pub, they seem to have the balance perfect between cosy local pub, but also quite a smart restaurant. You must go here and stay over.

Update: has dinner there with friends last night. Was utterly incredible. I can't remember the last time I had such good food. Lovely service, great atmosphere. I just went for a pint with a friend. I'm knew to the area and he was kindly showing me the nice locals places. It's very quirky in design and beautifully done. The service was friendly. I will definitely be going back.

Amazing! This is our 5th time and for my wife’s 30th birthday. They have been so lovely! And my wife even got a card! It lodges are stunning and the new hand painted walls are the most beautiful finishing touch. Staff are so so lovely! Honestly they are making our stay so special!

Beautiful dinner in a perfectly wonderful and quirky atmosphere. We were delighted by the ambience and staff and enjoyed an absolutely perfect starter and main and genuinely one of the best cocktails I’ve ever had. Same goes for the pork and polenta chips. Divine evening ⭐️

Such a lovely pub for dinner. Staff were wonderful, food was amazing and atmosphere was lovely. Big public car park at the back with free parking. Food was honestly excellent, I would definitely eat here again. We had three courses each, coffees, and a couple of glasses of wine and in total the bill was about £110, which was well worth it for the quality.

We stayed in one of the lodges here with our 11 week old baby for my Birthday. The staff here were very friendly and welcoming. The young waiting staff in the restaurant were particularly kind and made us feel at ease. The food was delicious, we thoroughly enjoyed our dinner apart from a guest making it clear that our baby was disrupting her dinner. What let our stay down was unfortunately finding a pint glass put under our back tyre on purpose, if we did not notice, it could have given us a puncture. Not being from the area we could have been stranded with our baby. We were not impressed at all and could not understand why anyone would do that to a strangers car. It looked like it was done from one of the customers in the Bell.

Stayed at the Bell with my husband, toddler and baby. The staff were so helpful and polite. Had cots ready in the room for us and high chairs ready at our table without us asking. Rooms were full of character and the pub was cosy and bustling.

Absolutely brilliant stay, couldn't fault any of it. The attention to (quirky) detail, the excellent food, the lovely lady who took our breakfast orders, the neighborhood cat who loved its cuddles all made us sure that we will be going back.

Lovely pub with great service. My only thought is that the bar should really stay open a little later for residents for the price of the room. Definitely recommend staying there though

Lunch was good. Two very nice burgers, one fish and one beef, fries and a couple of drinks Almost £50. A bit steep for what it was.

I went to The Bell over the Easter Bank Holiday with my wife and young child. The excellent waiting staff made us all feel very welcome, especially my child. Our waiter also gave great advice on wine selection. The food was magnificent. They even have a great selection of real ales. Thoroughly enjoyed my time there.

What a find, staff, food, service, all at its best, from receptionist at time of booking to even the youngest waitress serving breakfast..... What a team of well trained dedicated people. Atmosphere of hotel is busy, quirky, and friendly, with many unique features we found to be great. Can't wait to visit again very soon.

Stunningly quirky place with so much to explore. Room was fantastic with lots of character, best quality pillows, mattress and bedding -slept like a log. The staff are really friendly and helpful- the food is fresh and tasty with the best home made granola and fresh berry compote I’ve ever tasted - walking around the gardens was an experience in itself with interesting features around every nook and cranny. Well done to whoever designed this place - it’s a little gem 👍

An really lovely pub with accommodation and events space. We stayed here it was the venue for a wedding we were attending. The staff were fantastic and the accommodation was very fun - we stayed in one of the lodges in the garden. Well worth it - ours was called “Between the Lines”. Would definitely look to visit again in the especially in the summer.

Great pub with lots of character and an open fire. Friendly staff. Also really appreciate the variety of non-alcoholic beers. Glad to see that they did not have 'Becks Blue', which is often what many pubs have.

Beautiful pub. The decor and exterior are very interesting and there is an abundance of trinkets, ornaments and feature pieces to admire whilst enjoying your drink. I did not eat here so cannot comment on the food. The only reason for not being 5 star was the staff were not overly friendly and felt a little awkward as if they could not relax. Worth a visit though 100%

What an absolutely amazing pub and venue. The outside area is beautiful with plenty of seating. We didn't stay in any of the rooms/huts but looking online they look great plus the setting is fabulous. We had a wonderful meal inside and the burgers were very nice and I would recommend anyone to go here for a meal. Staff were attentive and friendly and I will be going back when I am in the area.

Food is really good, even if my dish was not as generous. The service is not as good as it aims. We went straight for main course, yet take orders left us waiting (despite the request to have vacated the table within two hours of arriving), starter cutlery left on table, wine not served well (despite a great, and expensive cellar), only to be slammed a 12,5% ‘discretionary service charge’. Far more expensive than it should be, … but it has to be said, the chef is good !!! Staff are friendly enough but it is too expensive for what it ‘really’ offers.

Popped in on a hot, sunny day for a couple of pints in their lovely beer garden. I opted for the Holsten Vier which was deliciously crisp and cold, and really hit the spot, so much so I had a second! The unexpected high point though was the unique style of the gents toilet!! It's almost worth a visit just to see that!! Sorry ladies, you'll have to make do with a picture!

The starters and the cheese board were outstanding, but both our burgers were raw. They were quickly replaced but we sat and watched three other customers eat raw burgers, one was an elderly man. Food poisoning can kill the young, elderly and anyone with a compromised immune system. It’s just not acceptable to serve raw minced beef. It’s not the same as cooking steak, it must always be cooked through. This is basic knowledge in catering. I was surprised based on the quality of the other courses that no one oversaw the burgers or trained the chef to check. Very worrying indeed. I hope the elderly man was ok.

Came here for my daughter and son in law wedding. From the moment we walked in it was pure joy. The Staff were very friendly and helpful. The Service was so personal and the surroundings magical. The food was delicious as was the wine. We stayed in one of the lodges which continued the sense of magic and being able to continue the celebrations over Breakfast was just the icing on the cake. Thank you so much for an amazing experience which was only enhanced by the fact that the Waitress remebered I am Coeliac and offered me GF toast done in a separate toaster. Brilliant and deserving of 20/10 and 10 star rating. The Happy Couple could not have chosen a better Venue.

Visited for a wedding - lovely venue and we had great food and service. Would definitely return to eat in the pub, had a nice feel and good garden space.

Went to the stable for our anniversary meal. What an incredible place, amazing food and great service from the team. We had the tasting menu, I won't give away much, but what an amazing experience it was. The food tasted incredible and they happily catered to my pregnant wife. Would recommend and will be going back, hopefully to stay in the lodges next time.

Had a nice lunch here on Saturday. Beautiful pub and nicely presented. The meat-eaters with me had a great choice of menu but I'm a vegan and there were no vegan options. However, when mentioned to the waiter, the chef made me ciabatta, drizzled with green pesto piled high with bbqued veggies. It was very good. The waiter was very friendly and helpful.

My daughters wedding day. The venue was gorgeous, the staff amazing and the food delicious. The gardens are a delight as is the very clever and quirky decor in an old building. A perfect day. We will be back to stay.

Came here for some lunch on the weekend. It's a nice pub, with a great beer garden and would definitely go back for a pint. But the food wasn't so good. The starters were good; the arancini was great and the salmon was good. But the mains were quite bad. The fish burger was far too salty and the beef burger (which was apparently Waygu beef) was basically a dense meatball; much too overcooked and rich. But 2 stars for being a nice place to have a pint.

  • 5/5 Debbie D. 1 year ago on Google
Fantastic, fantastic, fantastic. Everything about this place is.... Fantastic. Service from arrival was amazing, friendly and made us feel extremely welcome. Dinner was out of this world and our room was unique and beautiful. I took my best friend here for her birthday and we totally had an amazing time. Maybe next time I'll treat my husband as it was very memorable.
