The best steak dinner and service we have had all year. We are steak house regulars in the metro Detroit area and shamefully have never been to Mr. Paul’s, despite growing up 10 minutes away. One of the owners, Chris made our Caesar salad table side. He was fast, polite, and funny. I was so impressed he was in his late 60s maybe working his butt off as an owner (other owner behind the bars might I add). He circled the room and set the tone for the whole experience. You could see what they were doing here at Mr.Paul’s had been generations of perfecting the craft. The Caesar salad was perfect. We got the Chateaubriand for Two with the regular mashed potatoes. That’s the way to go for a couple. Perfectly salted, cooked medium rare was incredible. Served at the table side on flaming fire sliced onto the plate. Beth our server was so fast and attentive. I swear we ordered another round of drinks and she showed up like 30 seconds later with it. This is a special place. No need for reservations on a Saturday night at 8pm. Walked in put our name down, sat at the bar for 10 minutes and then were politely seated by the hostess. House cab was delightful. Finished with a espresso garnished with a lemon twist. Can’t wait to go back.

One of the best steakhouses in southeast Michigan! We went here to celebrate high school graduation. The reservation was great and they followed up to make sure we were coming. When we arrived we were taken to a very nice table. The staff were attentive, friendly, and well versed in suggesting drinks and food. The table-side Caesar salad is incredible! The menu is a mix of classic steaks and modern dishes as well. The duck was very good. The portions were ample and the inclusion of soup or salad with the meal was very nice. The pricing is very very attractive. We had an excellent evening and will be back!

Pricey, but damn good. First time we've ever had escargot, and it was lovely! The prime rib was amazing as was the garlic mashed potatoes. All the reviews raving about the cesear salad really had me skeptical about how it could be so amazing but it really was delightful, basically just incredibly fresh but it made a huge difference. Very dark and moody inside.

Went here to celebrate my sister's birthday. Ordered the pork chops, they were very good and excellently paired with the applesauce. I missed out on the gourmet Caesar salad, will have to try that on my next visit. But the secret, walk off grand slam is the special baked potato. Don't take my word for it, try it and I double dare you to tell me it's not infused with love. I let my sister sample mine, we had to go back the very next day so she could have her own. YES, it's that good!

Honestly wasn’t impressed with the food. Atmosphere was dark and open. I was excepting more privacy, not feeling like I’m at wedding. Website states you can make reservations by calling & that is incorrect. When I called, I was told that if there was a wait we could just sit at the bar. First disappointment. Place was packed on a Tuesday. We weren’t asked for preference prior to seating us. Restaurant has two sections. Being my first time I wasn’t aware the other side is just an open room with tables. Service was great and the reason for 2 stars. We ordered calamari as an appetizer. It was very bland and lacked flavor. Only plus side is it was steaks. Side salad was great with ranch. Ordered the elk rack special. It came raw, not rare. I couldn’t eat it. Not something that could be taken back and cooked longer since it was soaked in a BBQ like sauce. Broccoli was also bland with zero flavor. I wouldn’t come to this restaurant in the future. Plenty of high end restaurants that offer flavorful and creative foods.

Old school classy and not stuffy. Service was friendly, attentive and paced perfect. Table side prepared fresh Caesar salad served on chilled plates was delicious. Table of 8 got fish and chicken entrees. All served hot on warmed plates. All flavored as described and delicious. Exceeded taste expectations. All servers; greeter, water, bus, waitress played their part and had back up when necessary. Great coordination of staff while busy. We will be back. Picture was from end of evening because when arrived on a Monday night most tables were full. Reservations recommended.

My second time visiting. Whenever I travel to Detroit, ESPECIALLY on Tuesdays or Thursdays (live entertainment nights) I attempt to get to Mr. Paul's Chop House. The frog legs are to die for. The story behind this establishment is rich in family history and they can be seen out on the floor constantly checking on their customers, taking the time to talk WITH you not at you. If you want GREAT FOOD, GREAT ATMOSPHERE, a GREAT GO TO FAMILY OWNED restaurant with caring, attentive employees, place Mr. Paul's Chop House on the top of your list.

All it's cracked up to be. Great old school steak house vibe. Fantastic service start to finish. Started with table side caesar salad. Gotta do it. Amazing flavor, make sure you let them make it with anchovies. Wife had French onion soup, said it was the best she's ever had. I had the maker's mark barrel aged old fashioned (see pic). Phenomenal. I ordered the petite filet was amazing. Medium rare (see pic) great taste. Wife had the shrimp and loved them. Top notch dining experience.

Awesome restaurant. Old school Italian Steakhouse decor and ambience. Table side made Caesar Salad is amazing. Great food. A touch noisy but good and service is too good to take off any points.

This was a really good experience, I’ve never recieved such great customer service until I came here. The boss of the place was so involved by going around welcoming everyone and making sure we were well taken care of. Our waitress was Linda, such a sweetheart and was extremely attentive to all of our needs ( we were a group of 11 people ). Food was amazing, staff was amazing. 10/10 highly recommend.

This is a “must visit” restaurant when you’re in the neighborhood. Excellent service & food! ⭐️ The staff is super attentive from start to finish! Bravo Paul’s! The food is so flavorful & well portioned! You will get full! The clam chowder & the French onion soup is very delicious! Veal cutlet with the brown gravy is very tender. The duck is very tender, juicy & not gamy tasting. It’s accompanied by a flavorful rice almandine & broccoli! Our next visit will be the Caesar salad & perch dinner!

I enjoyed the scenery, the live music was really nice, I love to hear Live instruments & singing. My husband ordered the jumbo fried shrimp with mashed potatoes & Ceaser salad. He enjoyed the shrimp, but there wasn’t that much of it so he was not full (6/7 pieces) the mashed potatoes were disgusting, he got the garlic mash, they just sit the fresh garlic on top, the mashed potatoes, themselves were bland. I ordered the fettuccini with steak tips, mushrooms, and asparagus with a Caesar salad. I really loved my meal, the steak was cooked perfect. The Caesar salads were great, that was a first time experience for us to get to see them make it table side however, when I asked the waitress, what do our meals come with? She said you can get a Caesar salad for a little bit more, normally at any restaurant you would think that’s about. $5-$8. I didn’t think to ask because of the way she said it, I had no idea they even made it at the side of the table, but if I would’ve known that I would’ve asked the price because I’m sure the experience alone is why it cost so much. The Caesar salads added an extra $33.90 to our bill. We both definitely would have went without Salads if I would have known. I intended to spend at least the cost of our food which was reasonable to me, but the salad was outrageous, that made me upset. One of the waiters came by and filled up my water, but did not even ask my husband if he wanted his filled up and his glass was half full, that made us both feel a type of way, I had to ask our waitress for my husband’s water . Other than that it made me cringe that the people who make your table side Cesar do not wear gloves & when they go to squeeze the lemon out they are using a napkin and wrapping the lemon in it, but they have to squeeze it with their bare hands which is putting their hand juice mix with the lemon juice, the silverware is placed on the table, not on a plate, and you have to drink from the glass, which I know in a lot of fancy restaurants that’s normal, but even when I asked for a straw because I just don’t prefer to put my lips on a glass., She touched the straw with her hands because they were wrapped, so it just threw me off as far as sanitary, I’m very OCD about that, so I would not be back just because of those reasons, it’s sad, because the scenery and food was pretty decent.

When we first got here it seemed like nobody knew what was going on waiting for staff to show up. Once everybody got settled things went better. Came for husbands birthday because he said he wanted a good steak..he said it was pretty good. I being vegetarian did not have many things to choose from but they did accommodate me and made me vegetable pasta, it was very good. Thank u for that. Strawberry margarita was also very good. We would come back for sure.

Visited here for dinner after a day freighter watching on St Clair River. Lunch was late so we were not very hungry. Decided on two appetizers and a salad. The oysters Rockefeller were not very good. Sauce was watery and flavor lacking. Calamari was good quality but a little bland. The star of the evening was the tableside Caesar salad. Do not leave this restaurant without having the Caesar. Atmosphere was loud but there were large groups engaging in holiday celebrating...nice to see. The service in this restaurant was of a very high standard. Truly excellent. We will return again and try a couple of entrees. Overall this is a very fine dining experience.

Really pleasant surprise at Paul's! Great service and solid food. I didn't find any super creative dishes. What we were served was very good.

Had a beautiful evening at Mr. Paul’s on a double date with our friends. Everything was delicious, especially the table side Caesar salad. Best ever - shout out to Kevin for a job well done. I also enjoyed the veal Oscar, and my husband enjoyed the filet. Overall, a FANTASTIC and delicious meal with excellent and attentive service. The only thing left to be desired (and reason for one star deduction) is no reservations for parties of less than six. We waited an hour for a table. Well worth the wait, but in these post-Covid days, I prefer the ability to make reservations, especially with this caliber of restaurant. Even with the the wait, it was completely worth it and highly recommend.

Get a Caesar salad....they make it fresh at your table. Everything is here is high quality, from the soup to the entrees to the dessert. On my last visit, our waitress was Erica who took great care of us. You will pay a bit more than other places, but it is worth it for the quality and service.

I've always known Mr. Paul's to have amazing food, but today I want to recognize the amazing service as well! Today's is my dad and stepmom's 10 year anniversary and I wanted to do something special for them as a surprise, I called the restaurant and since they do not take reservations I was not sure exactly what time they were coming in. I spoke to Karen who took my information and asked for a description and let me know she would call me when they arrived. She called me once they were seated and I was able to purchase a dessert to surprise them. Thank you so much Karen for going above and beyond!

What a fine little gem this is. I read the reviews and I tell you Mr. Paul's was better than the reviews given. Such a well oiled machine. The room feels so warm and everyone is so welcoming. The food was incredible. The owners come out and greet each and every customer. A fantastic experience. I'll definitely be here again.

The food is absolutely fantastic. The caesar dressing is made fresh at the tableside. The prime rib is delicious. The shrimp were large. And the lemon cheesecake is fabulous.
