Complete transformation from the old pub I knew, and much for the better. The lounge bar area is very popular, but there's quieter seated area to the left. Two beers on when we visited St Austells Tribute and Harvey's, but they seem to have a good gin menu. One one bar staff on when we went on a Friday early evening, perhaps needed more. The decor is nice, tasteful and sparkling loos (always a good sign). I've walked passed this many a time, and will probably call in more often.

Absolute GENT of a Barman, but afraid to say.... probably the worst food I have ever been served....Steak Pudding was, a ball of dough, so undercooked we thought it was just defrosted. I had the Rump Steak, big statement, but true...... WORST steak I've ever seen, let alone attempted to eat, which I didn't. SUCH a shame, because nice clean place and very polite Barman, and apologetic Chef. But, if you're going to serve food, and charge people for it....step up.

Popped in for a bite to eat with my missus and my 8yr old son. We had sausages in a giant yorkshire (4 sausages) which had a nice rich onion gravy, cheeseburger with onion rings and chips - the burger and the onion rings were homemade and really nice - and a steak and onion baguette. We had 3 cokes too and it came to just over £27, which I thought was really reasonable given the quality. The only downside was that this was lunchtime and there was a very loud, drunk, foul-mouthed woman and every other word was F***. She came round to the restaurant side to ask a random stranger if she could buy his T-shirt! There was another young lad the with his dad too, I think the staff should have discouraged this common, vulgar language, but they seemed to be friends. Thankfully she staggered off soon after we arrived. We very nearly walked out over it and that's the only reason I've given 4 stars instead of 5.

Excellent breakfast, price was very reasonable. Also had a roast dinner here too. Lots of flavour and beautifully cooked. Turkey was just delicious and not dry like you usually find from some places. Gammon full of flavour. 10/10 will be back to try more of the menu 😋

Popped our heads in on a rainy day for some relief from the weather but were looked at like we were a piece of dirt! We were told we could sit "out the back"... bear in mind it was cold and raining... Very rude and unwelcoming. Left immediately, found a much friendlier pub call The Man of Kent, recommend you go there instead!

Not sure of the providence of this pub but it does have 14th century on the outside. The pub was clean and tidy and the staff barmaid was absolutely lovely: cheerful and friendly. The locals were also friendly. Whilst the 14th century might be a bit of a stretch, the pub has beautiful exposed beams inside. Not a huge pub inside but enough space for a decent crowd and there is a sizeable beer garden out the back. The Guinness was excellent as was the Harvey's Sussex Best

What a great little pub?! I visited with my husband and 3 excited kids. Welcomed by the very polite young lady at the bar and offered menus as we walked in. She also waved us good bye as we left. I couldn’t see a kids menu, if there is one my kids just grabbed the adult menu, but the staff were very welcoming and catered the food to the kids tastes. The food was amazing! The bar manager and chef came out to collect our plates after and I thanked him personally. I had a vegetarian option which was delicious. My kids all had burgers which were obviously home made. Husband had the fish which was served with a generous portion of tartar sauce. The food is all locally sourced and the salad in the burgers was perfectly fresh. My mushroom burger was very tasty with just the right ‘crunch’ on the outside. The chips are the best I’ve tasted and just how I like them, thick, crispy and fluffy inside. The atmosphere is really calming. The pub feels like a local friendly pub. The TVs had sports on but at a nice level of volume. They have a small selection of fruit machines. The toilets are clean and tidy. The whole place was spotless! The floor pristine and a faint smell of wood cleaner. All the little plants had been cleaned. I couldn’t see a speck of dust! I love the original features mixed with modern led lights creating the perfect ambiance. I really felt like I’d morphed to somewhere else, a sleepy village pub. The beer garden is a decent size and has views looking over to the castle with an area under cover for shade. Maybe pop in a pay them a visit? There’s a pub quiz every Sunday night at 8.30pm which I might pop along to in the near future.

We joined on Sunday for a roast which was lovely. I had the vegetarian option and even though the staff member wasn’t aware of what was on the menu or vegetarian options she found out and provided me with suggestions. Very much like the bowls of vegetables separate to the roast! One of the best roast I have ever had with amazing service! Beautiful pub with a great location

I cannot praise this place highly enough. Wonderful welcome. I was on my own and it wasn't a problem. Everyone extremely friendly. The fish and chips was amazing - succulent fish in the tastiest crispiest batter ever. Chips were excellent too. Whatever you are doing in Tonbridge - make sure you visit - you won't be disappointed.

Racist staff working at the pub. Just because my accent wasn’t British when asked to clarify why the beer was hot I was told it was a beer and I should get over it and if I had a problem to go and speak with someone. Unacceptable behaviour, shocking. Never going back

The food is always lovely and hot, and wholesome, there Sunday roasts are very filling and lovely. Only drawback is cost of beer nearly £5.00 but that is only moan from me, a friendly place to eat🤩😁

Nice traditional hospitality. The drink on tap is fresh and cold. Every time I visit I think of how many different types of people passed through in its history.

Good pub, nice drinks range, nice people, sat outside in garden area as we had a young dog. Pleasant evening, unfortunately kitchen closed for some reason, so could not order food, but enjoyed our time there.

👍 We had a nice impromptu lunch this afternoon. Sat outside so the kids could play in the small play area. The food was reasonably priced, the staff all friendly and I really liked the cute little touches at the bar (see pics). The food wasn't anything special but it was nice enough and the basic sor...
