The view at the top is stunning ! You have a 360 panorama view on the valley and the volcano, it’s breathtaking. The small train ride to get to the top is lovely and comfortable. You can enjoy the view while listening to the audio commentaries. Don’t forget the camera as you might want to take some nice panoramic photos.

When you just want to escape the busy city life and have a moment to yourself, just visit Puy de dome and you'll find it. For Clermont-Ferrand residents, it is particularly accessible since it only 20-30 minutes away from the city center. Also, the Municipality of Clermont-Ferrand provides public transport till the base-camp. There are two ways to reach the summit- the panoramique train and a trail of about 90 minutes. While the train do provide convenience and save a lot of time, I'd suggest to go for the short trail since that'll truly make you appreciate the place in it's purest form. The trail is pretty safe to follow and quite enjoyable. There is good options on the top for refreshments and entertainment. There's also a museum which one can enjoy. All-in-all, a must visit place if looking to escape the busy life.

Magnificent place. The views are stunning. The ride up and down on the train takes around 20 minutes each way. The train is €15 euros return for an adult. Dogs are accepted on the train. €4,30 return. Get their early, we left around 1pm and the queue was huge.

A great trip out and a real pleasure to have real 360° views from the footpath surrounding the summit. Save (lots of) time and book your tickets on line. Do note the train up will leave on time (numerous tardy-grumpy types were held back at the barrier!) and if you're a decent sized group arrive early should you intend to sit together. Decent toilets in the top station too. The roman temple remains are amazing (quite stunning what can be achieved with slave labour). Shame the telecommunications building isn't easy on the eye but at least you can look back at you were from about 2hrs away.

Amazing work of engineering this train that takes you up and down the volcano. Es make this beautiful Place accessible to Everybody. Mind the timetable of the train, especially in the low season. In the train station is below you have a huge parking and in the station itself there are plenty of toilets, a tourist information office, and a pricey though good restaurant. In the station above there are also similar services and a large souvenir shop. Up there you can climb a staircase to the top is Fantastic views, and you can also walk around. lots of air gliding folks.

Rack railway that runs visitors to the top of Puy de Dôme. Well worth the trip to enjoy 360 degree views of the volcanic hills and scenery. On the way up and down the train has large windows to enjoy the views so visibility is excellent. Good to visit if you are in the area.

Great experience, unfortunately ruined by sudden cloud fall. Will definitely be back when the weather is more certain

Great and easy way up. To have the best view: sit at the window with the double seats. Otherwise is the inside/Forrest side of the train.

Schöner Ausblick, wenn man nicht, wie bei uns zeitbedingt im Nebel dort oben war. Was überhaupt nicht ansprechend war, war die Gastronomie. Sehr steril im Stil einer Werkskantine.

Awesome view. We took the train up and walked back down. Everything was clearly indicated

Expensive to ride up on the train. Restaurant closed at the top. Only cafeteria open which was very expensive. Take a picnic and sit outside!

We went on a Saturday afternoon in August, there were no queues to get the train. The new visitor centre is well designed and informative, and the train to the top fast and modern. At the top the Mercurian temple was a nice surprise and also had it's own museum. Unfortunately it got cloudy quickly so we didn't have amazing views, but still well worth a visit.

Pick the train Panoramique to the top of the Puy the Dome and enjoy the magnificent view from your seat...really nice. At the top it is amazing! Absolutely worthwhile.

Stunning area, beautiful views and more to do than you'd think at the top. My only disappointment was no cycling allowed up the road, wouldn't normally irritate me but they were happy to try and sell loads of tdf stuff in the shop and promote the tdf but not allow cyclists. Perhaps a half day once a week to allow cyclists to climb wouldn't hurt

A lovely place to visit, the tram up was lovely with spectacular views, unfortunately with having problems with walking I couldn't manage to go up to the top, my son went up, I stayed near the cafe and had an ice cream

I don't understand why it's no more allowed to go up there by biking. When asked, people told me "because there's a train now" but I don't see the point. Also, on Thursday 18th May 2023, the train to go down at 11h20 left with only 10 people on-board, when there were easily 50 other people in the line. Why? Because the girl who was checking the tickets made us wait outside, and started to scan the ticket at 11h15. 10 people got their ticket scanned (yes, 10 people in 5min..that employee was very slow) and at 11h20 the train left to keep its schedule. We told that employee she should scan ticket as people are arriving but she just said "I have rules"

Stunning views from the top. Enjoyable train ride. Cafe and snack bar at the summit. A little expensive but tasty selection of food. A dry sunny or at least clear day is required to fully appreciate the experience.

Well worth a visit. The train was clean and comfortable, with clear views all the way up. The pathways at the top, are mainly concrete, and are well layed out. Traveling around the site, is therefore easy, although steep in places. The views of the surrounding countryside are fabulous, and there are many picture boards pointing out the many and numerous view points, giving each its name. Of course there is the obligatory cafe, serving mainly light snacks, and a souvenir shop. Free parking as well. Thumbs up

Great view, easy access even for wheelchairs. One of the must see when visiting France! And even learned about Roman history what I would have never imagined in my life. Check the pics.

Good train service but it's not cheap. I walked up and got the train down which I think I'd do again. Great view from the top, free museum which is interesting (almost entirely French only). Cafe with a view. The footpath up is well marked but steep.

Don't lose the chance to visit Puy du dôme, great adventure, you can do hiking about 3 hours or you can take the train , the ticket costs 12,60 €

This was not a planned stop on our drive from Bordeaux to Lyon but it ended up being one of our favorite things of the whole trip. The little museum near the Temple of Mercury was interesting. We rode the train and then walked around with an infant and toddler without issue. My 2 year old had a blast.

Great place and nice service! The train station is modern and spacious. Gorgeous view on the train. Dogs are also welcome to take the train (with a ticket 😁)

The Puy de Dome is a unique Paragliding site as you have the ability to take off in any wind direction. The views are stunning and it’s very accessible due to the train. Well worth a visit for those who fly or are interested in doing a tandem flight.
