It's probably one of the best things to see in St Petersburg. I had high expectations of the city, but it is flat, grey and all the buildings are similar. This building is perhaps one of the few that stands out. It's very popular and set in quite a nice quarter of the city. The architecture is amazing and quite photogenic, so you will take many more photos than you will ever want to see again or keep. Inside the church is extremely ornate with all the walls and ceilings painted. It's all very 'gold' and rich. Outside there are artists trying to sell their paintings and artistry, which is probably all imported from China.

Cathedral On the Spilled Blood, Saint petersburg This place is one of the main center of Russian orthodox Christianity. The orthodox Christianity is bit different from roman catholics. Different rituals, different patriach and different design of church. This cathedral is one of the most cathedrals in the world. The decorations both inside and out are beyond anyone's imagination. The mosiac walls are common in middle eastern churches but it's interesting to see this art reached far north in russia. Its very interesting to how they make an image with small stones of different colors. Its a pain staking job and the final result is breathtaking.this is something like pixels on lcd screens. Origins of orthodox Christianity is in Israel (Infact Judaism, Christianity, Islam all have roots in jerusalem) then to holy roman empire in istanbul and eventually found its way to Russia. My effort to capture the beauty and detail with a mere mobile phone is definitely futile as nothing can compensate the beauty of this place but the human eye.

Excellent facade of the church which was grand and exquisite. Unfortunately the church was not open to visitors at the time of visit. The church was erected on the site where political nihilists assassinated Emperor Alexander II in March 1881 and that gave rise to the name of the church

What and unique place! Stunning in all directions. Make sure to go inside and not only take pictures from the outside. Believe it or not some people forget that. Enjoy it to the MAX!

Such as mesmerizing place in town. It's fun to visit this place, specially for taking photos. And there's a lot of people selling goods and merch with affordable price. Also the people are nice and so welcomed. I need to visit this place again. I would like to take a chance to going inside, cause I haven't yet.

i visited this church in happier times. Built on the spot of the bombing assignation of Alexander II. Construction began two years after the assassination in 1883 and was complete in 1907. Although not very old (even by American standards) the church is breathtaking and an important place in orthodox Christianity.

One of the most beautiful churches in the world. Audioguide is available for a small extra charge (2.5 EUR), however fully worth it to get to know the story why this church was build and what the purpose is of the interior

This Church is one of the must visit place in St. Petersburg. This Church was built in memorial of Alexander II as he was assassinated at this place. There's tour guide available inside the Church in 10 different languages and it's very affordable. The entrance fee is less than $5(350 RUB). Unlike other religious places, there's no specific dress code to get in but it's recommended to dress in a modest way in order to pay respect.

This is one of the fine treasures in St Petersburg. Incredible architecture, beautiful Cathedral surrounded by beautiful Parks and canals. Gets very busy with tourists. Lots of souvenir stores. Do not agree with the people using animals and birds to make a living. Saw a guy with a monkey and bearded dragon. And women with pigeons. Do not agree with this and it should not be encouraged.

It is one of the good to visit area of St. Petersburg. It's accessible from the nearby Nevskiy Prospect. Tickets are separate for the church museum and the chapel hall.

A truly remarkable church and memorial built at the place of the assassination of Alexander II - the cobbles mark the spot where he fell. The small model of the church gives a good perspective of the domes. The interior is magnificent will wall to wall to ceiling mosaics. We went a 5pm when the crowds were thinning out as ticket sales end 5:30. An hour to admire the interior is enough and you don't have to dodge too many selfie sticks!

The most beautiful church in the city in my opinion. The exterior is of the of unique Russian style and interior is completely decorated with thousands of square feet of mosaics. It is just spectacular! They allow to take pictures inside which is nice. The church is still a working church but open to tourists everyday and it’s a must visit. The exterior of the main dome is under restoration these days but interior is completely done. The ticket is not expensive at all and you can even buy souvenirs inside which goes to the church fun in aid of maintaining it I believe.

Very beautiful. Worth the entry ticket if you are interested in history or like to see old/renovated churches. Its rather small inside when compared to other historical churches though.

The exterior is incredible. It fits that Russian Orthodox look that is so iconic. Truly a beautiful work with great architecture. The interior was... eh? Very crowded, there wasn't much successful work done to preserve the walls and ceilings. It is sad honestly.

As this Church much reminds on St. Basil's in Moscow it's not that old (neither is St. Pet as a city), but it has a very interesting history and breathtaking interiors which make it a must visit site. History facts: - it was built in 1883 to commemorate the place of Tsar Alexander II assassination in 1881 - therefore "spilled blood", - the Romanov imperial family funded the project, - in order to house the exact place of assassination inside the Church, they narrowed the canal, - after the 1917 Revolution overthrowing the Imperial regime, it was looted and semi-destroyed, - WWII and Leningrad siege brought further destroy and it was turned into a morgue, - after WWII Communist regime banned Church services likewise in all Russia, making it a warehouse, - it was rebuilt during the 90's and reopened in 1997 - toady it's not a working Church, but the world's biggest mosaic museum with over 7.500 sqm of amazing artwork. - photography is allowed, entry fee around 8$

The church built between 1883 and 1907 along the Gripoedov Canal on the site where Alexander II was assassinated in 1881, also known as the Church of Blood, "Cathedral of the Resurrection of Christ". The church is near the Mars field, Marsovo Pole, we were there at the best time, when the lilacs were blooming, a big park and a grassy field, an eternal fire monument, lots of park benches, everything is big like everything in St. Petersburg. I prefer bus tickets on a guided city tour, you can get off wherever you want, tickets are sold at least at Isak's church. If it's warm, a canal tour by boat.
