One of the worst hotel experiences I’ve ever had in France. Had a so-called “suite” in the old manoir — a total disgrace:: musky furniture and a ratty worn carpet. Not a single door that closed properly (including the toilet, which did not even have a sink — don’t these owners wash their hands post defecation??), wooden shutters that work equally badly with old and worn roll-down blinds that provide zero darkness, and a bathroom from the 70s with disgusting lime-scaled green tile, featuring a dilapidated 1/2 corner tub without a shower rod or curtain and no water pressure to speak of. The tiny bed (1.4m) is lumpy and sold as “large bed”, and the concierge had the gall to suggest we use the fold-out sofa, if we felt the bed was not big enough. A complaint about the quality of the room produced a violent rant from the manager (owner?) during which she claimed that that was her best room and that she was taking our complaint personally, since she was in charge of decoration. A reluctant offer to change rooms was made without a chance to see said alternative room. When using the (very small) pool, guests are expected to pick up towels from reception and required to return towels to reception after use. On the positive side, the grounds are very nice and the view from the terrace is spectacular. Wait staff serving the very mediocre breakfast are very friendly and eager to please. Apparently, rooms in the extension building are newer/nicer. What we had was 2* level at best. Considering the significant price tag of over 400€/night, a complete and utter disgrace and rip-off.

From the moment we arrived we were massively disappointed with this hotel. Dated room, terrible shower, lack of atmosphere, extortionate prices and lack of walkways between areas. To say the hotel is not accessible to anyone less able bodied is an understatement. No service at the pool which is down a hill, lazy people at reception waiting there for you to go and ask for basic service. There isn't a spa, there's a couple of spider filled buildings, one with a jacuzzi and separate one with a sauna in a field. Also off a motorway with no options

A fairy tale stay. Already considering returning. Managers need to tell prospective guests - as soon as when they browse the property before making a decision, and it a prominent place - that there is a chance that they will not get a room in the principal chateau but rather in the annexes. I was in for a surprise upon check in and felt awkward. Loved the place nevertheless. I should add that the room we got at the annex was excellent. We were offered to move to the chateau on the second day but decided to stay.

An absolutely magical place. We were upgraded, possibly because there was a wedding on when we stayed: a suite with a view of the gardens. The staff were fantastic - funny, hospitable, knowledgeable. We had the most wonderful dinner, with excellent wine; and a delicious breakfast. The hotel itself is set in glorious grounds on the banks of the Indre, very easy to find. A luxurious treat, but well worth it. Top marks.

Booked one night very last minute online to check prices and by phone to finish : I was pleased by the last minute special offer for the ELEGANCE room on the first floor of the castle (299eur albeit without breakfast). The view of the room is awesome, absolutely fantastic. The only balcony ! Old and stylish furniture, table was not stable at all but we managed. Bathroom modern but water pressure not good at all. Castle plumbing you would say, right ? The house is from 1860, so that’s fine… the HUGE disappointment came in the morning around 8am until 11:15+… when the 4 garden workers came to cut grass and more.. they all had noise protection headset indeed… not us :( Such poor management of customer experience for this price !!! The dinner at the restaurant was really nice, service and dishes were great. The place is lovely and romantic. Just ask to avoid noisy garden party in the morning …

We adored our stay in the chateau. It is a magnificent building in a beautiful location. The evening meal was really delicious and service throughout it was excellent. We would love to return. My only small recommendation would be that there should be more staff on duty when you go down to the restaurant for an earlyish breakfast. No one was about when we arrived at 8,30 and there were several periods with no one around to ask for assistance.

We took the 'Escapade gourmande' package and we loved it. It's nice to come back at the end of sightseeing day and enjoy a nice meal. The service is professional and the atmosphere is nice. The location is excellent and we visited multiples castles. The further one was Chambord at 1:15min which is not bad at all. My only complain will be the shower. The floor was totally wet buy the end of my shower probably due to the sloper of the floor. My second negative: one night the waitress forget about my wine pairing which was resolved during the last dinner. I like the 'Amuses bouches' when we took the apperitif before dinner. This is a nice attention and it was unexpected. Overall, it was a great experience and we really enjoy our stay.

Absolutely beautiful place to stay!! We stayed in, and would highly recommend room #4 in the castle overlooking the backside of the property. The room was very nicely sized with a small balcony. The staff was exceptional, very friendly and helpful. Mr. Xavier, the owner, took time to greet us and we saw him talking with several of the guests. The property itself seemed like it should have been one of the chateau's to visit in the Loire Valley area. The location could not have been better for visiting many of the famous landmarks in the region. Would definitely return and recommend!!

We couldn't be happier with our experience at the hotel! We visited on a romantic holiday and were not disappointed. Our room was in the carriage house, on the second floor with a balcony and view of the valley area. So serene, spacious and luxurious. The staff were kind, friendly and helpful. The place is rustic overall, but filled with character and charm befitting a country locale. The grounds are spectacular and we enjoyed strolling the property a great deal. The restaurant left a bit to be desired in terms of flavors and composition, but they had no problem catering to my wife who is celiac and required a gluten free menu, and the service was excellent and the views sublime.

This castle stay was one of the highlights of our stay in France! It is absolutely gorgeous and the grounds/views will take your breath away. The beds were comfortable and the daily breakfasts had great variety. The pool was clean and a real treat. I would highly recommend this hotel to anyone who finds themselves in the Loire Valley.

We had a very relaxing stay here enjoying a wonderful glass of Vouvray and a multi couse dinner at the restaurant. The pool was a highlight during a very warm Loire visit in June. The owners and staff were very welcoming. Lovely location just outside of Tours and everything the Loire has to offer!

All of the staff are very kind and service oriented and driven to make your stay wonderful. We had the pleasure of meeting the owner who is very hands-on and very helpful. We had a beautiful stay in the chateau and would definitely return and recommend it. Thank you for a fairy tale vacation.

We stayed 2 nights in prestige room in the main chateau. The room was really nice and not creepy at all, furnitures are great and modern, the room is bright and beautiful. Breakfast are ok around €22 per person. The location is great and peaceful, very far from mainroad so not noisy at night. It’s just a little bit far if you want to go city nearby, but it’s not a problem if you drive here. Dinner is great, but a little short of staff. Overall it was a great stay and recommended.

I highly recommend staying here for a night or two! Such a cool chateau, really gives you the french countryside experience! The restaurant was particularly good, and the grounds are stunning. The AC in our room wasn't working yet, but it was fine since we just opened our windows.

The hotel is very beautifully decorated. It's position is wonderful, with glorious views and easy access to some of The Loire's loveliest chateaux, both to the east and to the west. The food served in the restaurant in the evenings, was sublime, although the options were not numerous. Our very comfortable room had the quietest air conditioning I have ever encountered. The staff at the Reception desk were, without exception, so pleasant and helpful. Maybe the breakfasts could have been a little more interesting. I would joyfully go back to La Domaine de la Tortiniere.

Beautiful location, superb hospitality and delicious food. Compliments to the waiting staff who made us feel taken care of. Likewise, to the host, who generously and cheerfully took us to the train station herself after a mix up with the taxi. We enjoyed nipping out on the row boat too. Thank you Tortinière team.

HOTEL: La Domaine was a wonderful experience for us all. About 15-20 minutes south of Tours it is well situated for exploring the Loire Valley with almost all chateaus in/around 1 hour drive or less away (and many under 30 minutes). The drive onto the property is special (see video) with a nice reveal to the main chateau. Staff are wonderful and service driven with everyone speaking excellent levels of English. Note that there are three main buildings in which you would stay, the main chateau and two smaller buildings just adjacent so you have to be specific in your reservation if you want to stay in the chateau itself. Our two rooms were in the other buildings and the rooms were very good (though not super modern) being clean with good quality bathrooms. Each room has its own unique character which adds a bit of charm to the experience so if you return you are sure to have a different space than the past. The property is not huge but secluded from any major roads and has a high level of tranquility. If you are looking to get away and have a break from a hectic visit to France than this is definitely a great mid-trip oasis. The pool is a nice touch and adds a lot to the general ability to relax and just chill. RESTAURANT: During warmer evenings all guests would sit outside on the terrace facing the valley and the chateau Montbazon in the distance...all very calming and peaceful. We had two dinners during our stay...both of them of equal caliber of classical French cuisine (too many dishes to list) all of which were excellent though not huge in portion. Service, as you'd expect was top notch and personal where the wait staff are attentive to your unique or specific requests...always the sign of a top hotel/dining experience. Overall, a highly recommended experience and one of the few times that I have nothing to complain about. Enjoy!

Stayed here for 4 nights. Overall we enjoyed our stay tremendously. Staff were very friendly and professional. The food served at their restaurant was the best we had in France on this trip. We opted for the breakfast each morning, which was well worth the €25 each.

We had a great stay & meal here. We had never really stayed at a place that caters so much to your needs, so it was an experience. Our room was in one of the pavilion buildings and we loved it; the specialty drink left in the room was fantastic (to the point we bought one to take home). The staff is very helpful, and even though we made a faux pas were sure to inform us for our own reference. We were able to take the row boat out, which was a nice treat after being in cities for so long. It was also really nice that the chateau is kind of set away from things to create a nice feeling of open countryside. Now the meal. Hands down the best meal we had on our trip. We ordered 1 menu carte 3 course dinner & 1 entree a la carte - the lobster, croaker, veal, & chocolate soufflé. Everything was outstanding & the perfect portion sizes. Our servers made excellent wine suggestions based on our preferences. Overall, it was a great stay & meal.

Ok overall, but a bit expensive. There’s probably better value for money out there. Pool has no shade and is exposed to the sun. Some shade would be nice. Charged €10 to charge my electric car which isn’t very nice.

A fantastic property in every respect: beautiful grounds, lovely pool, rooms with character and all the necessities, and a gourmet kitchen with beautifully trained staff. My husband and I have stayed here at least 4 times and we have always come away completely satisfied -- and very well rested. Whether you use la Domaine as a base for your Loire Valley explorations, or you just stay here to enjoy the serenity of the countryside, this continues to be an excellent experience. Merci, Monsieur et Madame Olivereau!

The restaurant team were so amazing, the chef’s food was super and the team serving dinner were first class and so friendly and professional, we had the best meal of our holiday here, all the staff were so friendly and welcoming, we can’t wait to come back! The pool (heated!) and chateau were beautiful, we stayed in the cottages which were lovely and was very grateful of the air con in the room also!

After three hectic weeks visiting Paris, we spent four peaceful, wonderful days in the Loire Valley at the Domaine de la Tortiniere. The property is gorgeous. We enjoyed our beautifully appointed pristine room, which had direct access to a garden area which our dog loved. The breakfasts were lovely and we enjoyed our dinners at the hotel. The hotel staff were attentive and welcoming. We would welcome the opportunity for a return visit.
