The
central
building
of
the
Prefectural
Museum
is
located
at
the
northern
end
of
Omiya
Park.
The
brick
exterior
is
impressive.
The
exhibition
space
consists
of
the
first
floor
and
basement,
and
in
the
permanent
exhibition
room
you
can
learn
about
the
history
of
Saitama
Prefecture
and
the
lives
of
the
common
people
(folk
customs).
There
are
many
themes
related
to
Saitama,
such
as
the
formation
of
the
Kanto
loam
layer,
the
iron
sword
of
the
Inariyama
tomb,
the
activities
of
the
Musashi
samurai,
the
connection
between
Kawagoe
and
Edo,
Eiichi
Shibusawa
and
the
modernization
of
Japan,
but
what
really
catches
the
eye
in
the
exhibition?
It's
a
huge
slab
of
stone
monument
that
stands
out
as
if
it's
right
through
the
atrium.
Board
monuments
are
memorial
towers
(not
graves)
that
were
built
from
the
Kamakura
period
to
the
Muromachi
period,
and
were
erected
as
a
memorial
service
for
the
deceased
and
to
pray
for
peace
during
their
lifetime
and
after
death.
As
someone
who
lives
in
Saitama,
I
didn't
pay
much
attention
to
it
even
though
I
saw
it
once
in
a
while,
but
now
that
40%
of
all
the
monuments
in
Japan
are
located
in
Saitama
Prefecture,
I
have
come
to
realize
that
they
are
cultural
assets
that
represent
the
region.
did.
Many
of
the
exhibited
materials
are
replicas.
Some
of
them
are
for
the
protection
of
materials,
but
there
are
many
materials
like
tablets
that
are
scattered
all
over
the
place,
so
it
can't
be
helped.
If
there
is
a
theme
that
piques
your
interest
at
this
museum,
it
might
be
a
good
idea
to
visit
related
facilities
and
historical
sites
within
the
prefecture.
In
December
2023,
we
visited
the
special
exhibition
"Unraveling
the
Jomon
Code".
I
didn't
really
understand
the
classification
of
pottery
because
I
didn't
have
much
knowledge,
but
I
knew
that
research
was
progressing.
I
also
found
the
initiative
to
collaborate
with
local
museums
in
the
prefecture's
municipalities
and
distribute
``Jomon
cards''
to
be
interesting,
as
it
would
spark
interest
in
the
regional
characteristics
of
earthenware.
