Lovely location for a drink, the margaritas were some of the best I’ve ever had but the beef burger with chips was a 3/10 unfortunately. Bread was too doughy, cheese too salty, the chips were over cooked and drenched in oil (we paid extra for the upgrade as well) and the coleslaw was bizarre. The live music is also good so if you’re around for some canal side drinks there’s good atmosphere to be found but the food needs a lot of improving.

Always incredibly friendly staff which a decent bar and excellent food. The food he is genuinely really good every time i order i am happy with what i receive. What would be really great for this place would be more cocktail knowledge. I understand it has more of a family vibe going on but such a beautiful bar could benefit from a broader cocktail menu. That being said they do cocktails, just the classics which i understand.

Possibly the best place to eat in this area. My daughter lives nearby. She and her sister work in hospitality . We did have a bad experience on one visit . But xxxx happens when it goes wrong it goes wrong that's life . So no need to post negative response. The management and staff more than made up for it. Food excellent staff excellent. Beautiful beer / restaurant garden. Highly recommend to you all

Stopped for two nights for a local wedding and could not have been looked after better. We stayed in the Duke room which was a great size and well equipped. The bed was so comfy and the decor is fab. We ate in the restaurant twice, had breakfast butties in the room and all the food was great with the Sunday roast a highlight, again the service was very attentive and quick. Cannot recommend this place enough, friendly staff with great food and the room was fab.

Only eaten here twice but both times have been exceptional, food is to a very high standard. Sat in the new extension which was very nice. Staff are friendly and prices are reasonable.

‘Afternoon Tea’ was great value for money at £25 per head Lots of sandwiches, cakes and savouries. Beautifully presented on stands. Staff were lovely and extremely attentive. We were all very impressed (9 people on the booking) However, we was surprised to find that our food did not come with tea or coffee !! We had to purchase these separately. This is the first time I’ve had afternoon tea anywhere and not received a hot beverage as part of the experience. We all found this a bit odd as surely the clue is in the title …… Afternoon Tea 🫖!!

Had a lovely lunch with my partner here on Thursday . We just happened to walk by and decided come to in for lunch . The place is very shabby chic in decoration. Clean and friendly environment . I don’t normally leave reviews but that service and food was above and beyond . I asked the lady could I leave a review. She said that would be much appreciated and I asked her name. She said her name was Amanda & Stevie was also the other member. We will be back as there’s lots on the menu I would like to try

In my reply to jo and her reply to me ... no I didnt have a meal only a drink yes .. but think I'm entitled to my opinion ... didn't realise your only allowed to have a drink if you eat Also no it wasnt when a lady brushed passed me to go to the toilet .. I didn't go to the toilet .. The actuall meter/2 metre rule was NOT being adhered to also I was sat outside and the table I was sat at was full of dirty glasses and they were not mine I have a few other things I could say But I'll leave it there

Really nice food and friendly staff & clientele. Portions were nice and big too 😋Great setting and ideal stop on family bike rides. The only downside was a bit of a delay in service while they switched from breakfast to lunch menus at ~1130 on a Sunday.

Excellent restaurant. The menu has something for everyone with pub favourites to vegan to interesting, flavoursome dishes. Service is very good with attentive, friendly staff. I love the decor and the view from the restaurant as the barges go past is lovely. Will definitely visit again.

Went there for the second year running and the food did not disappoint. The food was hot and beautifully cooked. The service was very efficient and the staff were lovely, very helpful and aimed to please in every respect. Particular thanks to Jo for sorting my booking. So important to visit regularly to keep great venues like this going. We will do that and will also definitely be there again for Christmas next year. Happy new year to Mike and everybody working there and a big than you for a lovely Christmas Day experience.

Only been a few times but each time food has been nice, good value and good sized portions. Great that it is dog friendly inside and out. A nice place to visit on a sunny day too as large outdoor seating area next to the canal. Excellent choice of ales too. Worth a trip.

I am giving 4 stars because I had a Sunday dinner yesterday & I was missing my Yorkshire pudding. The staff member I told didn’t bring me it out. I had already had to ask for the side of cauliflower cheese that I had paid for. That finally arrived when I had eaten my meal. Sadly my Yorkshire pudding never came. It was an extremely busy day and most of the staff was super friendly & accommodating from the blonde lady meeting and seating us in the door who finished at 5. She was ace. And the staff behind the bar who was dealing with ques The man in the purple shirt Behind the bar was rude He let the que know that they can order faster outside from Qr codes because most of the que who had already waited over 10 minutes didn’t go out he was them speaking about us to the waiting on staff as if we was all stupid for not going outside. Bare in mind we had already witnessed how slow he was and how many tickets he had to make drinks for. This made no sense for us to go out to use qr code The young girl was fast and officiant. The guy who them came on Behind bar with a cut hand is real asset to your team. He was super friendly and knowledgeable about lots of stuff. The entertainment was great and overall we loved our time here. Hence why I didn’t down star you more. I was disappointed that even after I complained I was missing food it didn’t come.

Out for a cycle ride along the canal to meet my son and agreed to meet up here and try out the lunch menu as there is a separate vegan menu with starters mains and desert 👍🏻 Chose the vish and chips was was a delight - never tried banana blossom before but made for a tasty dish. Staff were attentive and helpful. Lovely decor inside and plenty outside seating and dining tables - there’s an undercover outside eating area too in case of rain. Great canal side location and definitely one to revisit.

I want to say a big thank you to the lady that gave me glucose tablets as I felt a diabetic episode come on yesterday when we called on the off chance that you had a table . She said she was diabetic and always had them on her . I was so grateful to her . She is very caring and genuine. .and was interested in all the guests she was serving . We held the wake of a loved family member here 21.10.2022 and the food and service was outstanding. From booking and arranging with Jo to the actual day the service and compassion shown by all staff was amazing. Highly recommended for any bereaved family x

People on here have said they don't want the piano player. Well quite frankly I think he is great. There aren't many places in Monton which are Riverside and have entertainment. Give the guy a break. He does well to play many tunes and sounds good over your Sunday lunch. Well done fella. You make my Sunday afternoons. I look forward to seeing him at the bar on a Sunday. Well done man!

We visited yesterday for lunch and a catch up with friends. We were running slightly late and the staff simply said not to worry, your table is ready when you are. Gorgeous food and there is always a fantastic atmosphere. Really friendly staff, who always make us feel welcome. We’ll be back again soon!

What a wonderful place! Recently had a family celebration here and I can't recommend The Waterside highly enough. The team there made everything so easy for me. The food is excellent and the beer is good too! Relaxing outside area is right next to the canal. Go there... You deserve it!

  • 5/5 Joshua D. 2 years ago on Google
Decided to come to the waterside last minute this evening. Venue has seen refurbishment which looks very good. Also the food was delicious (I had pork belly with pickled cabbage and fondant potato) they have introduced a specials menu (which will be changing weekly) which was delicious and what I feel the place really needed as I stopped coming for food as the menu had not changed in a long time. The service provided was professional and friendly by all staff which I feel was tons better than previous visits. The cost of the meal was very good and overall the value was great. I will definitely be coming back to see what other specials the new sous chefs have to offer!

I went there for the first time last week. It was a very pleasant experience thanks to the staff on duty. They were mainly young people and ever so polite and efficient. The food was lovely and the restaurant had a friendly cosy atmosphere. I would certainly recommend it to my friends.

We have been a couple of times now and at busy and quiet periods and have always found the service and the quality of food top notch. The drinks menu is really extensive too! It’s great to just bob in for a drink if you’ve been on a walk or to book in for a meal. Sunday roasts are amazing

  • 3/5 Aiden F. 6 months ago on Google
In my opinion it's a really overrated place with ridiculous prices, we booked in advance for a birthday party with around 15 people and they sent us a menu when booking and said we have to let them know now what we want "that was fine" then the day we get there they say they've changed the menu completely so was absolutely pointless even sending us the old menu. Then the food took an extremely long time and there was adults being served "in our party" before the children and I just thought it would be common sense to sort the children out first but obviously not. It also cost over £15 for a small "chewy" lasagne with no sides and the drinks options were very slim, in my opinion if your gonna spend daft money like that on food is rather go somewhere else as this place was not upto standard at all unfortunately.

  • 5/5 Mich 6 months ago on Google
Lovely Sunday lunch and great that adults can order a half portion, which not everyone offers. Food was great quality and service was really efficient. Nice, laid back atmosphere.

Just had a spectacular meal at the water side bar, the place in very nice the staff are very well presented and polite, the meal was freshly made, tasty and hot they have a very good selection of beer's and spirits I would definitely recommend this place

Younger staff didn't seem to know what they were doing, took 3 attempts to get them to bring out the drinks we ordered. When the food arrived it was lukewarm and overcooked to the point of being unedible, it felt like it had been cooked hours ago and had been hot held since then. Manager was rude and unapologetic because we didn't have time to wait for it to be recooked we were charged full price for barely edible food. Great location but won't be returning due to staff attitude.

Unfortunately our experience at this restaurant was ruined by the front of house. My sister and I had been sitting down for approximately 10 minutes ( 13 minutes after our bookings started) before the front of house appeared to ask when the rest of our party would be joining us. We had not even been offered a drink before this. She then appeared again a few seconds later to inform us we had to leave the table at a certain time and asked us if we could please inform the rest of our party as they should hurry up. When booking there had been no mention of a time period (which we left in good time anyway), but the experience left us feeling anxious for the rest meal and unwanted at the restaurant. Overall the comment came across rudely and was not something I would expect from a front of house. I should add the rest of the staff were lovely and the food pretty good.

Visited here for my Mum’s 70th birthday meal. Camembert starter was outstanding - best I’ve ever had! Ultimate burger main was a bit of a let down. Burger was way too dry and the “loaded” fries accompanying the burger were very much a light load. Asked for Coke as a drink - don’t know what they use there but it isn’t Coca-Cola! More like Roller-Cola! Despite the largely disappointing dining experience, the setting of the Waterside is beautiful and I’ll definitely be returning to sit out back next to the canal whilst having a couple of beers in the sun 😊 hopefully Birra Moretti, though and not Tesco Value lager!

This is part of the Wetherspoons chain. I dropped in for coffee only but its a busy place with a variety of meals on offer and like most of their other outlets the food is very good. Its a good place for groups and families

Came for a Sunday Roast and it was amazing. Got the Trio of meats Sirloin Beef, Honey Roasted Gammon and Turkey, with crispy roast potatoes and a medley of vegetables and jug of gravy, oh and not forgetting the huge Yorkshire pudding. 10/10 . All for £15.95, can't complain about that in a cost of living crisis. It certainly filled me up. It was a busy location by the canalside, lots of walkers stopping off for a drink, very dog friendly. Very prompt service for the waiting on staff. Next time will try out their rooms to stay in, as they look amazing. Definitely a place to visit. Will be back.

Went for a girls night out to celebrate a birthday. Service was good, cocktails were nice. The food was really nice. The price was good. There was live music on, right near our table, I was expecting it to be over powering, but it was actually really good. Would definitely go again.

Had the pleasure of eating, drinking and sleeping at the Waterside last night. Very cozy bar and restaurant with lovely natural decor throughout. Took over an hour for starters to arrive. Grazing board was disappointing. Sea bass was way too fishy. Pepperoni on pizza was extremely rubbery. Something made 2 people sick. Staff were very nice though. Overall not a good experience.

Excellent food, service and vibe. Myself and my partner have moved fairly local to The Waterside, and have now been on multiple occasions, whether it be for food drink or both. The staff are lovely, there is a good selection of drinks and the food is excellent. It has quickly become a go to place for us and this review is currently being written sat outside the place! Would recommend this place to anyone looking for good atmosphere, food and drinks. Will be coming again for sure.

We used to go here quite often, but with covid situation this was the first time in a couple of years. Still a very nice place with nice staff but the food is no longer what it used to be. Especially the garlic bread previously on a par with Italian restaurants, now more like frozen from Iceland.

My partner and I went for Sunday dinner and open booking were told we would have the table 2 hours. Our starter and Sunday dinners were great but we felt extremely rushed afterwards. After receiving and ordering dessert, we asked if we could have a break as we were a little full and it was only 1hr and 10mins into our table allocation. Our waitress said there was no problem to wait. Our dessert then arrived arrive 5mins afterwards without us asking for it. We were then asked several times whilst eating the dessert if we were finished. When dessert was finished the dish was taken away and bill brought back to the table without asking for it. We felt extremely rushed especially with not long having ordered fresh drinks.

The breakfast was pretty poor quality, especially the chicken nuggets they decided would go well with the stodgy pancakes. The main issue I had was the staff member sitting on the table next to us eating our breakfast so he could have a chat with the table sitting diagonally behind us, it was irritating and wasn't the best practice during a global pandemic for a staff member without a mask to be crowding our space. Also putting cinnamon ontop of a cappuccino without asking the customer is a good way of spoiling a drink if they arnt fans of cinnamon

Friendly staff, fantastic location overlooking the canal, food great value and tasted fantastic & in these strange Covid times felt very secure and safe sat at our table. A couple of negatives service seemed slow but as it was a busy Sunday totally understandable. Baby changing facilities on available in the female toilets which seems a little backwards in the modern world that we now live in, if I was a single dad would have made things a little difficult

Food quality excellent, staff friendly & polite, good service, from fresh soups, salads (which are filling), to linguine & burgers...all are excellent. Only introduced to it a few weeks ago with friends & have been back since twice! Hard to find the entrance as you can't see the place from the road, except further along on the other side of the canal, so look out for the white sign-post will thin lettering - that's the only issue. Toilets spotlessly clean too, & outside seating by the canal.

Myself & 33 colleagues had our Christmas get together here (15.12.21.) and all agreed that the quality of the food and the service was exceptional. As such a large group we were placed in the Lighthouse area of the restaurant and must say the decor was very festive and welcoming. I also found the drinks prices reasonable and a great choice. We chose the Christmas menu, and ordered in advance due to numbers involved, at £28-95 for three great quality courses very reasonable indeed. Very well done Paul/Jo and the wonderful team, till we meet again.
