What a gem ! Regarded as the oldest pub in Salisbury, it's worth a stop. Quaint exterior , very very cool and antique interior. The decor is the perfect vibe for a drink. The downstairs bar and mezzanine alcove are perfect for chilling and nursing a beer. The selection of cask ales is good but short. Good selection of spirits. Their menu is excellent and food very very tasty. Yummy ! 😀 *** 30th May 2022 Update *** Completely empty on a weekday ! Sat at the Churchhill lounge (actually don't know why it's called that) but had the whole place to ourselves. Nothing's changed. Still 5-star. *****

We visited The Hunch of Venison for lunch yesterday and sadly they didn't have available the twice cooked pork belly...on valentines day lunch the head chef didn't plan the full menu availability (while we were there 3 other people wanted to order it) 😫 2 star for the organisation, however we really enjoyed the slow braised pigs cheeks and trio of Venison!!! We will visit again because we really want to try the twice cooked pork belly 😋

Absolutely superlative pub, it’s unreal thinking to dine in such an old venue…it’s fascinating! The food is excellent, we had the venison casserole and the trio of venison and they were delicious, rich, tasty…definitely a delightful dinner. Highly recommended to whoever will have the pleasure to visit the stunning Salisbury 🤩

Having a casual lunch today at the 700 years old building. The Sunday Roast is so good especially the carrots coming on the side. The carrots are super sweet. Pork belly is crispy and tender. The Sticky Toffee Pudding is quite nice. It’s too sweet for my preference, but I finish it anyway. The staircase is steep and narrow. Kids and elders must be extra careful.

What a wonderful old building! Twisty and turny and kooky and crooked: every bit a classic old pub. Fabulous fine food too - with many venison options - and a decent selection of well kept real ale as well. I would come here often if I lived nearby!

Fantastic 13th century pub / restaurant with loads of original features. Very welcoming on a wet cold day and venison stew with mulled wine both perfect. Excellent service. A must to visit.

With the building dating from 1320, this haunted pub has to be included on a visit to Salisbury. A hotchpotch of small rooms, the pub and restaurant is an interesting enigma on where to sit. Nice selection of beers and spirits, and character in spadefulls. Friendly staff and very popular.

Food was great! Atmosphere amazing. Staff nice, but service slow as waitresses seemed to be run off their feet, and we were there early like 5:30pm. Possibly understaffed. It was also hot, so felt bad for them as not much ventilation in this old building and they only seemed to have 1 floor fan. It is definitely worth a visit!

We came for lunch as a family of 4 with a booking having just visited Stonehenge, I had the trio of venison. The wait for our food was approximately half an hour however the food was worth literally every second. It was exceptionally tasty and beautifully presented, you could really taste the quality and effort put into the meal. It was nice and quiet inside with a very sophisticated atmosphere (but not at all pretentious). Staff were very friendly and attentive. My only critique is that we were placed on a table with a bay window so it got a little chilly. I’d 100% be regular here if I was local and recommend it to anyone

We had the smoked salmon and glazed goats cheese for starters and the pork belly and venison fillet for mains, and seriously, the noises coming from our table were a bit obscene. One of the best meals we've had in ages. These are not cooks, they are chefs and clearly love their work. Absolutely perfection from start to finish!

It was the 1st of January 2023 and I was in a new town. I was supposed to go home but postponed it and dropped by this restaurant after my walk. The Haunch of Venison is a restaurant recommended by almost all the blogs of "things to do in Salisbury". From the outside, the facade looks very old but maintained and the place is huge. Big wooden beams, ambient lighting, leather and vintage furniture/trinkets were inside. Felt very homey yet a little scary because its haunted. 😊 I was sat near the window and asked the lady if it was just me or it feels like I am tilted. She said ita because of how old the building was, the beams were wobbly but guaranteed it was safe. You would notice some warping on the ceiling. 😅 the wood and leather tho 🔥 I wanna drink here on my next visit 😬 For my starter, I had the duck liver pate with onion chutney. This was lush and I enjoyed every bite. The pate was bitter, rich and creamy while the onion chutney was sweet and a little tangy - perfect contrast tastewise and a perfect pair. It was served with 4 thin slices of sourdough -- i was tempted to ask/buy more -- couldnt find it on the menu and I was to shy to ask. Then, I had the trio of venison (best of all venison worlds in one plate) it had venison sausage, pulled venison and venison steak. It was sitting on a bed of sweet potato mash and had some vuttered vegetables on the side. Now, the started got me almost full but this main dish I still devoured. The pulled venison was my least favorite, i love the snap the venison sausage case had and the venison steak #1. It was cooked thoroughly no pink but it was very tender. I didnt understand 🤯 A couple of men were already drinking at the pub area when I arrived. I looked like little red riding hood because of my raincoat and felt awkward with the stares. 😅 there are more seating upstairs and you can sit in silence in a corner if you are by yourself and enjoy the food 😊 It is along the road (Near the Poultry cross - 2 historic locations in one 😁) They have a loo There are fireplaces inside the restaurant if you want to sit near it They accept card payments The lady was very efficient in taking my plates when I finished every dish ☆Star rating☆ Price 5/5✨️ Food 5/5✨️ Ambiance 5/5✨️ Service 5/5✨️ Location 5/5✨️

Not just famous for being the oldest pub around, but its food is quite good too. The sticky toffee pudding is a show-stopper. Try to book in advance.

Lived up to the hype. Very old original features, amazing staff, great service lovely food. Fitted us in at 6 pm. We luckily went in on Friday night, but they were full, so they squeezed us in for Saturday. I would book ahead if you don't want to be disappointed.

Very atmospheric! Quirky. Great history to the place! Didn't eat here but had a drink in the small bar area in the entrance. There is a larger restaurant area up a floor. No ghosts spotted on my visit!

One of England's oldest pubs. The floors are wonky from age and oak beams are everywhere. Lots of strange history (ghosts and severed hands). The staff were lovely and the food was really nice. Much better than one of the chains you can find in any town or city in England.

Lived local over 10 years but never ate here. The food was fabulous and locally sourced. It was one of the best pub dinners I have had.

Fantastic, classic old pub experience for one of the oldest pubs in England. A must visit pub in Salisbury for anyone visiting. A lot of history to the place too. I heard good things about the food, although we didn't have any time to try.

Very Olde quaint pub in the town centre, very cramped with hard to find seating. Some locals are accommodating and help you get a seat, other not so, small area just inside the main door usually has 1 person taking up 5 stools. Barman needs a bit more charisma as he is not very welcoming. Couple of decent beers on though slightly make up for it.

Had a lovely dinner here. Very old fashioned decor and its a quaint little pub that is frequented by both locals and tourists alike. Vegetarian option included a four cheese risotto. Nice beer. Lots of narrow stairs to get up to the dining floor.

Went here for dinner on Christmas eve. Wonderful service, all the food was delicious. Drinks were great, and all of this in a beautiful, historic setting. Possibly my favourite pub in Salisbury!
