Great place to buy souvenirs from Salvador! It's an old market with all kind of stuff that you can imagine, from clothes to food! Some prices are negotiable!

Massive market full of unique items and food from around Brazil and beyond. A must see for anyone visiting Salvador and looking for a gift or memorable souvenir to bring home to remember forever. There are a number of restaurants and other food vendors. The market is also close to other top local tourists attractions.

It's a souvenir market more than anything. It doesn't feel real. Just nice if you are looking for souvenirs to bring home.

Under construction, they are going a renewing, providing more accessibility with new ramps and elevators. Good traditional Bahian food at the local restaurant located in the 2nd floor

A beautiful historical building that works as a popular market in which you can find souvenirs, gifts, tipical food and objects that relate to the local culture and life style. (Photo: view of the market from the top of the Lacerda Elevator)

It ia currently under renovation work. There are quite a few booths that were missing. It is highly recommended to buy many of the excellent chocolate produced in Bahia. They are of an excellent high quality and have many wonderful varieties. The booth in the picture is great place to buy these chocolates.

This is indeed one of the greatest and most know trademarks for anyone visiting Salvador for the first time. Currently, the market is passing by a renovation so its split in two different sections. But both have basically the same kind of products available. At first, I've thought this would be similar to São Paulo's Municipal Market; however, here you will find just two or three options of restaurants with most of the other places taken by souvenirs stores. It can be a great place if you're looking for this type of store but be attentive of the prices - you can similar items for huge price variance. Tip: things here are cheaper than most of the stores of Pelourinho. Extra tip: though the market itself may not be what you're expecting take the opportunity to visit the marine located a few steps of it. The view is stunning and a good place for nice photos.

(Translated by Google) Being in Salvador is synonymous with "Mercado Modelo", because this place has more than 250 stores and points of attraction and culture, bars, restaurants, presentations, groups and professionals who offer services, tourist guides, but above all it is made of friendliness and irreverence of its people, the Bahian people who occupy the spaces with joy and receptivity. Unmissable...

Had a great few hours here trying the different types of cachaca, chili sauce and local sweets. Very touristy but if you try stuff you can make a fun time of it

Inexhaustible source of souvenirs from Salvador, Bahia, Brasil. Loved it! But it gets four stars because you can get exhausted very quickly trying to rummage through endless suppliers of cute but useless and uninspiring trinkets just to find that one hidden gem you've been looking for....

Amazing. It’s a great place for buying souvenirs in the trip. The price in general is good and the people are really open for deals. I bought 30 key rings in the form of drums for R$60 and they are good quality.

What a place to see. SO SO SO much to check out. They alway have the best items to take back home. I love that the vendors show you importance when your are seeking a certain item. I found so many " wrap skirts" I only picked 2 and wish i would have gotten them ALL. Defiantly will visit again.

The perfect place to buy souvenirs although every stall looks virtually the same as the next all selling the same products. Regrettably you are 'harassed' by stall owners eager to sell you their wares.

Great market, Lots of vendors with decent prices.

  • 5/5 Shane Gregory D. 2 years ago on Google
If you want to buy your souvenirs and gifts all together in a single place, then this is probably as good an option as any. There are plenty of options, enough probably, to suit everyone. The first floor also offers some good options if you want something to eat or drink. Restaurant Maria de São Pedro was our choice and we were pleasantly surprised. Recommended.

All the stores sort of look alike they all sell souvenirs and you don’t need to actually get around because whatever you need, you can find in one single store but it’s worth a visit.

  • 3/5 George Felix B. 1 year ago on Google
It's historic market place which is worth visiting but last time I visited it was in maintenance and it was a bit too crowded. Also, you need to bargain, they usually change the price as soon they realize you are tourist.

It's a good place to visit if you're in Salvador City. I thought the elevators had some kind of transparency that allow users enjoy the "Todos os Santos" Bay but I was wrong, though.

There are two restaurants in this place, they are at the top of the market and it is possible to have a beautiful view. In the inferior part there are varied types of souvenir about the Bahian capital.

A great deal of Bahia in one place.

  • 3/5 Cacau A. 3 years ago on Google
It’s a shame, but lack of maintenance compromises the experience. Top floor restaurants (two, to be more precise) are quite nice, well seasoned, though the acarajé was a bit oily and we only got ONE shrimp per “bolinho”. Pricing is fair, to be honest, if compared to other local places. But the “war of baianas” competing for your attention at the entrance, and the rough condition of tables and ceiling makes you feel a bit uncomfortable. A place to visit once, maybe twice.
