I really enjoyed busing this place. We did the 3 ties for 3 wishes. It was fun to explore this area a few vendors out front. Would say this Is a good place to visit, parking can be tough to find.

This church in Brazil has a lot of history. If you come to Salvador and don't visit the church, you are missing out. The church has a room full of photos and cast body parts which represent a 'miracle room', Brazilians believe in Saints, and when they get a miracle, they bring a photo or something; that will represent it. The wristbands that you will see everywhere are very famous in Brazil. It means when you tie it to your wrist, you need to make 3 wishes in every single knot, (3 knots, 1 wish for each) when it come loose, the wishes comes true. The church has daily mass and it is beautiful inside. It is a perfect place to go and watch the sunset. Enjoy!

A must see during your visit to Salvador. A beautiful cathedral that captures the heart and soul of one of the oldest cities established in the new world. It’s local custom to tie ribbons at the gate in front of the church and say a prayer to the Holy Savior of the Bay of all Saints. Inside the cathedral and deep rooted in the Afro-Brazillian Candomblé traditions and the Catholic Ex-Voto, the afflicted offer wax casts in body parts to Saints as thanks or hope of healing them.

Very old igreja and beautifully designed the architecture is very historical. I recommend if you want to do photography visit on weekdays cause on weekends and especially on Sunday you will found fully crowded. ( I couldn’t get the chance for photography) nice to visit here and see the beautifully historic details inside the igreja (church)

Visiting on a weekday was the best bet. On the other hand this is a nice historical monument holding stories in every corner of itself. The interior is sculptured in an intricate manner.

What an odd and eclectic church that proves that humans will believe pretty much anything. If you have any ailments or disease of the body, no problems, get the afflicted limb cast in wax and then hang it from the ceiling of the church - completely normal! Because it’s a point of pilgrimage you’re also harassed to purchase ribbons to tie to the church fence - wasn’t sure of the point of this but it does make for a colourful backdrop for portrait photos

Beautiful church carrying a lot of history. There was service when we arrived and it was crowded but we found seats and could enjoy the amazing interior of the church whilst praying. Be aware about parking and souvenir prices, street vendors try to make money on unadvised tourists.

This was an excellent way to find some respite from the city. There are many meetings and there are many attractions here. The basilica offers an excellent gaze into the past of not only the church but the local customs and city history.

(Translated by Google) Place of faith and reflection. The rich history of this church, with details of the temple's architecture, provides the visitor with a unique moment. Masses are frequent and the faithful can make or pay their promises. There is a saying that "going to Salvador and not knowing the Church of Senhor do Bonfim is like not knowing the city", the historical and cultural importance of the temple for Salvador. Tying the traditional ribbon of Nosso Senhor do Bonfim is one of the highlights of the visit.

Quaint old church, with a beautiful view, much nicer interior than one would guess from the exterior (although exterior is done in rather charming gothic architecture), and a cute story of wishes granted for each of the knots tied with a ribbon at its fence. Make sure not to tie more than three knots, though, and of course - you can't say the wishes out loud. :) When will they come true? When the last of the knots gets undone and the ribbon falls off the fence...

Here is one of Salvador’s symbolic place. We can see a lot of fita Bonfim around church. And also a lot of fita Bomfim vendors are there. You had better to ignore them.

Nice church but crowded place. Nothing special, at least for me

  • 5/5 Pedro de P. 5 years ago on Google
Good vibe to get your blessings. Given the importance in Brazil you would expect a grand church. It is, however relatively small and simple, but never the less impressive for its significance for the faithful in Brazil. Great photo opportunities with the colourful Senhor do Bonfim ribbons tied to the church gate.

If you’re not a religious person, don’t waste your time visiting Salvador’s churches. This one has nothing outstanding (at all), and you won’t understand why so many people go there (and why they refuse to use air conditioner!).

Though it is not that close of the mainstream of Salvador's sightseeing, the basilic is indeed a must to see place. It has such a huge and potent energy that will make the extra effort worth it. It's not the most luxurious church one can visit, but the relevance of its history to the locals (and the history of religious development in the entire state) is more than necessary if you really want to leave with the mystical taste that Salvador leaves in all of us. There is no fee payment, and as a plus, you can visit the beaches located on the outskirts. Don't forget to attach your Senhor do Bonfim ribbon on the gates of the church - legends say you must choose the color you like the most and tie it in with three knots, one for each wish of yours. The color you pick will represent the orixá that protects you.

Very nice place, with an amazing atmosphere. It’s a must seen place in Salvador. Located at the top of a hill, from there you have a great view of Todos os Santos bay and of the city. The straps of Nosso Senhor do Bomfim attached to the Church gates give an awesome color to the Church.

Not as good as Pelourinho. Here you come to the church and can't really walk around (as there is just the church, and nothing else to see). Wouldn't recommend unless you have time. The church in itself is nice, of course, and you are on a hill so there's a nice view.
