The museum is quite big (4 floors) and exhibits are presented very nicely. It’s a pity that all the text are in Spanish (the last star went there). Nevertheless, we got a picturesque experience about the island’s history, flora and fauna. My favorites were the collection of butterflies and moths, the life sized sea creatures and the birds. Plan approximately 2 hours for the visit. Definitely a very interesting getaway, away from crowded beaches and loud streets and/or rainy day. Parking is at a nearby parking centre.

This was a great museum, many artifacts, including mummies, sea creatures, rocks, flora and fauna. About 25 audio tours in quite a few languages, 2 to 3hrs gives you plenty of time to take it all in, highly recommended

Nice mid-sized museum. Good information about the natural history and floors/fauna of this amazing archipelago but not very entertaining in its presentation. Very diverse in its areas.

Well run museum with particularly good archaeological exhibits. A useful app provides a commentary in Spanish, English or German which helps a lot as most of the displays are only in Spanish. A bit of a rabbit Warren but worth an hour visit, especially to view the mummies. And the entry is free.

A lot of the exhibitions are made up of pictures, so don't expect a lot of stuffed animals. The collection on Canary artifacts, including bodies and body parts of indigenous people are stunning, quite literally.

A lovely, well maintained museum with both natural and archeological exhibits that is a very reasonable €5 for adults. All exhibits are in Spanish. There is a free online audio tour in English but it omits most of the museum and causes you to spent the tour with your phone speaker in your ear so you do not bother the other visitors. I visited in Feb and the cafeteria was closed as were portions of the museum. There is a lovely garden in the middle and the staff are very helpful. I bought a seashell jazz t-shirt, not sure what it had to do with the museum but it was cute.

Some really beautiful displays of the nature and beauty of the islands, the history and artifacts that have been found in and around not just tenerife but throughout the canary Islands. There is also information about the wildlife that inhabits the islands, and even mummified remains of the indigenous people of the canary Islands. Highly recommended to take your time to look through the exhibits as there is many interactive pieces also.

The museum of Nature and Archaeology is divided in many sections: there are the traditional 'natural history' sections, with rocks, minerals, animals and plants, and a section on the discovery of the Canary Islands and their Archaeology. Furthermore, there is a section on the geology, the volcanology, the microclimates and the ecosystems of the islands. This section has been set up recently and is fully interactive, with lots of screens, whereas many other sections are a little bit outdated in their museological setup. The most interesting thing is that each and every section focuses so much on the canary islands, and explains interesting phenomena like allopatric speciation, island gigantism, the biomes of the islands and the anthropic impact that the islands has felt for more than 2000 years. Highly recommended. Don't forget to take a look at the temporary exhibitions on ground floor (and -1) on the right just after the entrance.

Low entry charges, the volcanology display is interesting with several interactive features. The anthropology of the Canary Islands is tracked through the ages showing both human and animal evolution.

One of the Museum of Teneriffe. The Museum is very informative and well organised. Alot of exsibits to see here. Amongst special things to mention are by far the Mummys wich a very well preserved to this day. The Museum offers also alot of life-sized sea animals (ancient and current sea life). In any case if u have a good hour or two to extra then you should deffenitly drop by this Museum.

Magnificent museum of the history of the Canary Islands. Very full of different facts and exhibits. Separately, a hall with mummified objects was parasitized. I definitely recommend a visit. Entrance 5 euros. For a group of 8 or more people 3.5 euros. The audio guide is available through the website in different languages for free.

Museum of natural history and archeology. Natural history nicely but conventionally displayed. Most interesting feature in the archeology part was the collection of Guaza mummies (indigenous people). Would benefit from more info and better audio visuals

A fascinating trip through pre-history and archaeology, plus natural history of the Canary Islands. We found it quiet. The signage is in Spanish, so we used Google Translate, but you could ask for a guide in English. We forgot to do that.

  • 4/5 Mary S. 2 years ago on Google
Really interesting history of the Canaries not just Tenerife. And rather topical info on volcanoes and how islands formed. Mummies were amazing. All info in Spanish only but English info available on phone.

  • 5/5 Elvin L. 2 years ago on Google
Another great place to go see along with a family. There alot of artifacts are being kept there that is well protected from being damaged and destroyed. I didn't like the real mummies bodies and body parts being displayed though. I felt it was rather wrong and should have stayed in it original resting place and not in a museum. Other that I was rather amused and fascinated.

Great museum. But I almost missed the third floor, the best one (with mummies). Some other people could not find it too, there are no indicators that the exhibition continues there

  • 2/5 Jane R. 2 years ago on Google
Be aware that unless you speak and read Spanish fluently, you won’t be able to take in any information in this museum as no exhibitions are in English. Also the mummies are no longer there and have been moved. Overall a disappointing place.

For those of curious mind who would like to know more about the formation of this island, the people who’ve inhabited it and especially the flora and fauna, this museum is a great stop. I especially appreciated the discount offered to teachers and the narrated tour available on the website that we used. I would suggest that perhaps the museum rethink The lights being able to shut off unexpectedly while in the room with the mummies. I can imagine that this could possibly traumatize a young visitor and I know that’s not your objective. Thank you for a great experience and additional insights into your beautiful island. We learned a lot.

  • 5/5 Cristina T. 2 years ago on Google
Very interesting museum. It is worth visiting to understand the island formation and its population. All the exhibitions were in Spanish only. I am not sure if I would enjoy as much as I did if I couldn't understand the language. The caffe is located on the courtyard and it is beautiful.

Nice free museum to kill time. Many rooms are with pictures or plastic reproductions which are not of great interest to be honest. They offer a free audio option in all languages which is great. My favourite part was the mummies.

If you don't understand Spanish no point going to this. Their audio guide is only fora very small part of the museum missing vital parts of historical information! Other parts of the world their audio guide will cover everything! Absolutely not ok to charge people full price and not give them the full or majority of the exhibitions.

A very pleasant experience. In the midst of an influx of tourists everywhere, this is just heaven. A lot of interesting exhibits, all organized in an interactive way. Our four-year-old son loved it!

  • 4/5 Abby C. 1 year ago on Google
Spent a good few hours in there, fair few floors. Only thing most of the exhibit information is in Spanish, could do with adding English translation. There are some exhibits that if you download the app, you are given information in English. But if you don't have a smart phone, then it's pointless app. There are some very interesting exhibits over the floors. There are seating areas on each floor, can be quite tiring. Toilets are clean. Unfortunately there was no cafe open that we could see.

Absolutely lovely. Just the right amount of information and presentation of artefacts. I would honestly suggest visiting this place first if you are into natural history or archaeology. The best overview of the Canary archipelago one could have. Nothing online rivals the content and overview here.

The museum is so well thought out and the exhibits presented in a visually interesting way. Although all the text is in Spanish, you can log onto the WiFi and get a tour in English which guides you around the museum. Spread over 3 floors, you'll find something to grab your imagination, be it the huge collection of butterflies and moths, the life sized sea creatures, or the mummified humans.

Beautiful architecture and a well organized collection of botanical, archeological, and scientific relevance. A must see to understand the roots and foundations of Tenerife from a historical perspective. The small chamber with well preserved momies pays respect by its discreet setting to the first inhabitants of the Canary Islands.

  • 4/5 János K. 11 months ago on Google

Every time we go here we find a new tidbit of information about the Canary islands. There are lots of things to see and a good way to spend a hot summer afternoon before the sun loses a bit of power to get back in the outdoors. Kid friendly as well. Everything is in Spanish, as it's a local museum, so expect to use Google translate every once in a while when some words are not known by you.

Awesome natural history museum with incredible exibitions of modern and fossil Canary biota. First and foremost it has collection of extinct Canaries megafauana, extipirated by early settlers and volcanic activity. Giant Canary lizard (Gallotia goliath) is a truly magnificent beast as well as giant canary rats and terreatrial turtles! Also awesome collection of insects with great interective display! I would say its a must while in Santa Cruz!

Very nice museum divided in two main sections - biology and archeology in three floors. 40 minutes of great audio guidance is available via WiFi in Spanish, English, Italian and French to use with your own device such as smartphone or tablet. You can find there a huge collection of beautiful butterflies and other invertebrates. Items of daily and religious use from various ages and also mummies in smaller Egyptian section.
