I really enjoyed the art in this museum. Really excellent works are on display here. I put this as a must see place when visiting Santa Fe. The staff and guards are friendly and the museum is not overwhelming but rather just enough to appeal to your inner artist!

Don't sleep on this museum! The exhibition I went to was extremely poignant. If you only have time for one museum in Downtown, I highly recommend this one.

When in Santa Fe don’t miss this amazing museum, as a great bonus, it is only a short stroll from the famous plaza. The exhibits we saw while visiting museum were truly one of a kind, and included everything from sculpture installations , digital media, murals, and paintings. Ask for the veteran rate if it applies to you.

I really liked the outside of the museum and colorful murals. It looks very clean and artsy. I visit art galleries everywhere all over the world and I would have loved to see the exhibitions, but when I walked into the museum and saw staff members wearing masks and many museum shop articles with rainbow flags on it.. I had to walk back outside immediately. I really support diversity, but this is too much.

An excellent collection as well as timely exhibits make this a must-visit in SF. Currently sharing IAIA Alum work as well as very new works by emerging artists. Pix don’t do it justice but here’s a teaser-

Fantastic museum - the Exposure: Native Art and Political Ecology exhibit was incredibly powerful. As a printmaker I really enjoyed the prints by IAIA students. We would absolutely visit again.

Pretty small museum but a lot of great pieces if you enjoy modern/contemporary art. Theres no dedicated parking so find a parking meter!

We visited on First Friday when there was free admissions 5-7pm. We were only able to view the side exhibits and the upstairs as they closed the main exhibit so we had limited access to the museum. There were a few works by Jean LeMarr that were phenomenal to reflect upon and jewelry there as well. Lots of other galleries in the area to walk around and look at too. Worth the visit for free admissions on First Friday. Not sure if I would pay full admissions but I am not sure what the main exhibit is like.

Amazing collection of metalwork, beadwork and textiles in the permanent collection. The current exhibit on native fashion is truly breathtaking!

When we went it had an exhibit of Jean LaMarr who is a Native activist. They had several large paintings, and some mixed media items. The paintings had really bold colors that harmonized in places and argued in others. I liked the layering. They also had a couple of small etchings that I kept coming back to. Bold black shapes with very fine, dense lines in a pattern behind them. Lots to see if you just kept looking. I'd love to own one of those. Also had another gallery with jewelry, textiles, sculpture and other items, many from artists in residence. Very nice collection there. It's not huge, but you could easily spend an hour or two if you like that kind of art.

Small exebitions and I expected more but end of Semestre guess.

Some of the works I saw might have been very impressive if I had been able to stand far enough back to take them in. They were murals along one side of a fairly narrow corridor, which made viewing harder. The ones I could see best are very much laden with explicit messages. Art and advocacy have kept each other company for a long time, which I respect, but don't always like.

Wonderful museum, small but impactful with a number of beautiful works. Brought my 14 year old and 9 year old and they thought the works were inspiring. We recommend it.

A compact and well curated museum of contemporary art, with an invaluable and seldom heard voice of this land's first inhabitants. Having just come from the Whitney's exhibition of Jaun Quick-to-see Smith, I found this place a great continuation of themes that seem to permeate the native experience. The small footprint of this museum allowed me to move through slowly and truly absorb it without dedicating an entire day. Truly a great addition to the contemporary art museums I've visited. I will definitely return.

Beautiful place! Their fashion collection was fantastic. When we went, the upstair's jewelry collection wasn't open, but we would love to revisit. The gift shop also sell original arts as well as prints.

A must-see unique museum. So many important exhibits. The first floor is all wheelchair accessible; I didn't try going to any other floors. The front entrance has one tall step to get over; I didn't see a ramp.

Visited September 2021. They had incredible exhibits on how indigenous people were affected by past nuclear testing and uranium mining. I had no idea how much damage this had caused, and the exhibits and beautiful artwork really told the story well. Great job, I hope to come back again soon!

Not a big museum, but very interesting. We saw a special exhibit of modern fashion designed by Native Americans, plus jewelry on the upper floor. Gift shop has a great selection of contemporary books. I am a repeat visitor, and will go again.

A nice art gallery/museum with very interesting art. It’s right in the center and easy to walk to. They had three different exhibits. Four if you count the art garden. Rick Rivet: Journeys, Mounds and the Metaphysical is an interesting art collection mixing scenes from life in the Arctic, scenes from the times when the natives were conquered and a flare of mystery surrounding the journeys by sea. Inherent Memory was a multi-media/mixed media exhibition with bright colors, basketry and a a poem I feel in love with (see photo). Last but not least, on the second floor was The Stories We Carry dedicated to storytelling via jewelry. Some of the pieces were just gorgeous! Mixed metals, precious stones, glass beads and furs. A joy for the eyes and engagement for the mind! The gallery store had interesting pieces as well from books to prints! There was also a mini-exhibition of a designer who mixes the concepts of medicine and fashion in a curious way. The clothing was incredible!

Not a large museum, but it's an excellent collection. A lot of beautiful work from modern voices, often from within the past five years.

I was at santa fe only for a couple of hours and I HAD to stop by this museum. As I was walking through the plaza, I picked over the window and I fell in love with the collection displayed.

This is a very small museum that is not designed to appeal to everyone. I admit that the exhibits are provocative and they challenge the imagination. However, the exhibits are too few (with only three small galleries) that I went out of the building sorely disappointed. The second floor displays are nonexistent. When I was there, most galleries were off limits to visitors! If you are not into contemporary art by native American artists, then most likely, you won’t enjoy this museum.

Loved this place and the art. They had an installation going up so the biggest area was cut off from the pubic. Beautiful art.

A small museum and you must definitely like modern art to fully appreciate this museum. Friendly staff.

Was very interested in the genre - contemporary American Indian art. Was very disappointed with the museum. First, there was very little to see. Second, the first floor was mostly bad art that conveyed all negative messages. I would have liked to have seen more diversity in the content and media (it was mostly all acrylic and oil paintings). The NA cultures are very interesting - it would have been exciting to see more celebration of this, rather than everything being so negative. Save your $10 and look through the many galleries that feature NA art.

It was ok, actually to me rather boring. Staff was very friendly. Outside areas were nice but so sparse. Wasn't totally sure we should be out there. Not that much to see, luckily wasn't much to get in with Groupon. Spent 24 mins in here.

A treasure of contemporary art as well as the continuing cultural legacy of the Native people of this land. It's my first day in SF and feeling overwhelmed by the touristy shops and galleries, I noticed the stunning mural posts and iconic courtyard sculpture and decided to wander in. The second floor gallery had a number of pieces that blew me away. Don't get bedazzled by all the consumption and miss this gem.

I have been visiting Santa Fe for over twenty years, and for whatever reason I had never been to the IAIA museum... What a bummer. I can only imagine all of the amazing shows and unbelievably creative indigenous artists I have missed out on seeing. Wonderful setting, beautifully staged, and full of interpretation that allowed for my development of a more complicated relationship with the artist's expressions and lives. Impressive!!! I will be back over and over moving forward.

Incredibly powerful experience. Should be required for all those passing through Santa Fe to experience art made and curated by Indigenous artists.

Spectacular museum. Visited on 14 October 2021 and saw the exhibit "Exposure: Native Art and Political Ecology." Really amazing exhibition. Learned so much about environmental injustices that indigenous communities are facing.

👍👍 Very nice. Wish they had more samples, and more things for kids, but there were several booths. There was a great eatery area with places to sit indoors. Very true to New Mexico. Street performers added to the charm. Didn't see any port-a-potties or public restrooms.
