More of that great Guatemalan Culture! Do take the time to sit back and just breath it all in. You miss it when you're gone!

About a 45 minute drive by private shuttle from the airport, this is the unofficial capital of Latin America. The city of Antigua is stunning in its beauty. It is one of the first and oldest cities in the Americas. This charming city is framed by 3 volcanoes and combines the traditional with the modern. Antigua is safe, highly walkable and full of sights and activities. The service is outstanding and the food is delicious. The local people are friendly and hospitable. The US dollar goes very far here. This gem should definitely be added to your travel bucket list. I know that I will be back here soon.

The Central Park is the heart of Antigua Guatemala. It is a beautiful square surrounded by colonial buildings, including the Cathedral, the Palace of the Captains General, and the Palace of the Archbishop. The park is home to a variety of trees and plants, as well as a fountain and a statue of a Mayan god. The Central Park is a popular spot for locals and tourists alike. It is a great place to relax and enjoy the atmosphere, or to take a stroll and explore the surrounding area. The park is also home to a number of restaurants and cafes, so you can grab a bite to eat or a drink while you're there. If you're looking for a place to relax, enjoy the outdoors, and learn about Guatemalan history and culture, the Central Park is the perfect place for you. Here are some tips for visiting the Central Park: The best time to visit is in the morning or evening, when it is cooler and less crowded. Be sure to wear comfortable shoes, as you will be doing a lot of walking. Bring a camera to capture the beauty of the park and its surroundings. Don't forget to try some of the local food at one of the restaurants or cafes in the park. I hope you enjoy your visit to the Central Park!

Really enjoyed this central hub of Antigua. We learned that the Spanish used to set up all their cities the same way, with military on one street, church on one street, government on one street and bakery on the fourth street/side. Really cool to walk through the park with the fountain that connects it all and truly is the heart of Antigua today.

The central park of Antigua is truly the central meeting point for most things. It is a beautiful park with greenery, benches, trash cans and a beautiful fountain in the middle. In the evenings and weekends you will find a lot of local artisans and street vendors selling all kinds of things. Overall, this place is super relaxing. Must see

Nice meeting place but this review can't stop here without giving my impressions of Antigua as a whole. Stunning place with it's cobbled streets, old colonial buildings and surrounded by fabulous volcanoes. The air is so "breathable" here.

Central park is very Lively and colorful. Bring cash if you want to buy souvenirs and be prepared to take lots of pictures of the gorgeous indigenous people and their crafts. Downside: no public restroom.

We loved spending time in Antigua. We enjoyed walking the cobblestone roads and taking in the beautiful colonial architecture. The restaurants are charming and unique. Prices for food, lodging and gifts are very reasonable. We stayed at the Hotel Soleil. The grounds are beautiful and the service is first rate. We got around using Uber and tuk-tuk's (when we felt more adventurous).

Inolvidable el lugar. Rico en historia. Encantada con el 🌳 de flores milagrosas... Bella la iglesia. Es un lujo por dentro. Lástima que no fue posible conocerla. Ya que todo está fielmente resguardado

This is a very nice hotel but the decor is a little out dated and I think a little over priced too but maybe we paid more because it is the Independence Day weekend. The food in the restaurant was better at breakfast then it was for dinner. The staff were very friendly welcoming. If the things I mentioned I didn't like we're better than I think I would have given 5 🌟.

Blown away by this wonderful park. It’s like being in another world. Has a lovely community feel to it. The surrounding buildings, well kept shrubbery, and bustle of locals make you feel as if you’re on a movie set.

Wonderful park, great place to have a meal, people watch, or just soak up the culture. Pros: center of everything! Banks, food, churches - action is right there! Downside is all the buskers, constantly asking you to buy stuff and pushing their little ones to sell things.

The place is amazing. It's nearby everything. There's a lot of cafés surrounding the ares. There's always a police presence so you feel safer. It's also really near to the iconic arc where you can take photos of the arc and volcan de agua. At the main park you can grab a snacks, coffee someone actually have a backpack of coffee selling it around. And there are many souvenir shops. It's the best place to start to get to know Antigua.

A nice calm but lively town center in the middle of Antigua, we visited during new years and they had an open market with lots of local products to purchase. A beautiful church is located right next to the square in the old Spanish catholic style.

Beautiful park with lots to see and right in the centre of the town. It is swarming with vendors though and at times you won't have a moment of peace. Also very crowded at times. But definitely worth a visit.

Great tourist location. Lots of souvenir shops and dining options. Definitely a lot of walking but it's worth it. Not wheelchair friendly or even with crutches. Streets are cobblestone and sidewalks are narrow.

Nice central park. It reminds of the town center in Cusco, Peru. But this one is much nicer. Lots of tourists and some locals in this area. It is surrounded by some nice shops. It is also close to the famous arch.

Beautiful architecture and lots of history. Loved the artisian market. I bought jewelry that I was fully prepared to discover would turn my finger green from not being real, but to my suprise everything i bought at the market hasn't turned at all. Affordable, safe, and not super crowded. The view the the volcano is pretty amazing too!

Beautiful area good for pictures, to relax as well as buy souvenirs. The fountain in the middle of the park was hilarious to me. There is a beautiful church to one side of the center as well as another historical building to its right. There are a lot of vendors set up by the fountain. Had a friend who was offered coke/meth there so be aware, this is what the local people do to most tourists. Otherwise was a really populated area especially at night and makes for a good walk.

Antigua is a wonderful town. Nice colorful buildings in good shape. A bit too much colonial though, somewhat out of the box in Guatemala. Visiting the city and its Central Park is a must when you're in the country.

  • 5/5 Jason A. 4 years ago on Google
Parque central of Antigua is fun with lots of benches and people enjoying the weather, landscape and colonial buildings. There are vendors, wiggling your index finger pointing up, sends them on their way. All generations, kids to grandparents, are happy to be there. There are lots of couples holding hands. The central fountain and doves add to the majesty. It is my favourite place to relax and enjoy ice cream.

It is the main gathering place of Antigua. With a majestic fountain in its center, many sightseeing spot surrounding it (cathedral-museums) you can spend a couple of hours at your visit. But then, you will like to come back again and again just to sit in a bench to chill and watch people around.

  • 5/5 Ryan C. 4 years ago on Google
One of my favorite spots in Antigua, really nice for people watching and feeding pigeons, plenty of shade as well to protect you from the sun. Though I would steer clear of getting your shoes shined there, they gouge you on the prices. I also highly recommend the little icecream carts that are at every entrance, they only cost 2q and are a fun typical Guatemalan treat.

The owner gets involved with the guests and gives you that sense of family. Staff is very courteous and willing to go the extra mile whatever your needs are. I've read some reviews about the food before getting here and don't know what they were talking about; the food here is very good! The only concern I have is that the surrounding areas are not the best; still, as long as you don't go wondering around alone and at night, you should be OK. We're a small group and we walked around (even at night) with no issues. The locals are friendly and will tell you the areas you should not go to. Overall, we're happy and will gladly come back!

The Central Park is heart of the Antigua City. It is surrounded by the most beautiful buildings of the city – the cathedral, palaces, and museums. There also are several cafes and restaurants. You can also meet local people in national costumes here. An ideal place to sip your favourite Guatemalan chocolate

This place is absolutely amazing. The energy, beauty, it's history, colors, scents and tranquility alongside all the historical buildings and shops, completely amazing and full of awe. I highly recommend you find a nice shady bench, enjoy an ice cream from the little cart vendors and sit back and watch the coming and goings of the everyday passers by. If you get the chance to engage one of the craft vendors that are walking by offering their arts and crafts, buy something and engage in a conversation with them. This place is truly magical.

Lots of things to see. Lots of things to buy. There is music and food. Lots of lights. A great place to be and people watch while taking in the history.

A paved park with benches, canopied by trees and surrounded by beautiful buildings. Be sure to take a closer look at the Fountain of Mermaids in the centre. On occasion, you will find markets pop up at this park selling locally crafted items.

A beautiful plaza. I really can't describe it well enough with my short visit. But many old and historical buildings. Many shops and also places to just sit and take it all in. Everyone drives slow so it is a very walkable town

Very nice park. Lots of vendors there selling all sorts of things all day. There are shoe shiners, candy floss, coffee and all sorts of local crafts on show. Also a good place to find marijuana and whatever other things you might be into for sale if you don't have any local contacts. Many park benches and trees for shade, a pleasant place to sit and relax all day.

This is the second time I have gone here and it definitely is somewhere that everyone needs to go when you are in Guatemala! The only thing you need to prepare yourself for is it is a very heavy tourist area and the prices can be expensive if you are not careful of where you buy certain items. I get followed everywhere when I have went because I look like a tourist even with my husband and family. I just let him handle it all because he can negotiate prices and knows better if something is a good price.

I visited this plaza during my trip in Antigua and it is beautiful! On the weekends they put up a little artesian market in the evenings and they also have a live band that performs as you walk around! Super cool and worth stopping by for a few hours! If you'd like to see more of Antigua, check out my YouTube channel "Travelwithchris " where I documented my whole experience there!

The social and cultural center point of Antigua city. A wonderful place to relax and people watch, where tourists and locals mingle. Built around a wonderful fountain and fringed by city hall and the cathedral, the park is buzzing day and night. There are a number of coffee shops around the edge of the park if you want to grab a cup.

Excellent atmosphere; the experience was quite relaxing. I noticed some reviews stating this place can be somewhat pretentious; I never felt that way. If that's the case, I find that to be the reason why I would go there. I'll definitely be going back!

Beautiful Antigua square. Sights, sounds, vendors, foods, birds, cobble stone and so much more. History and colors fill the streets. Traditional village people and the new age city folks all come together here.

My third visit there and I always feel incredibly captivated by the energy and excitement of Antigua when visiting. I love the diversity of the crowd and the "people watching" is amazing. I could honestly spend a day sitting on a bench in central park and be entertained.

Cool place to people watch but also very touristy. Lots of pigeons - watch where you step, sit, and watch your head! You WILL be approached by vendors - don’t buy food, they have no hand sanitization and can be observed urinating or changing diapers before continuing to sell their food. Some cool picture exhibits up right now in the park about some Mayan history.

Nice place to relax and have coffee. One of the best hand-crafted ice creams from street vendors - from what looks like a miniature "chicken bus." Great experience watching people get their hair braided by the indigenous women. Beautiful artisan items can also be purchased. And the cathedral is right in front. Surrounded by excellent coffee shops and restaurants.

A beautiful space. True it’s covered in pigeon dropping and wares hockers most of the time, but sometimes, especially early in the morning, you get quite the feast for the eyes. Every weekend there is a large market set up and often great treasures can be found. The fountain has mermaids on it, a traditional symbol of Antigua as a city.

Beautiful park full of people, a lot of tourists and souvenir vendors. It has nice plants and trees, benches to sit on. The trees are beautifully lit at night when the atmosphere because busier and restaurants and bars fuller and happier. Love the style of the homes in Antigua.

The Plaza Mayor or the Parque Central is a lively center of Old Antigua. It is surrounded by grand architecture and filled with people both foreign and native. I especially enjoyed seeing the Mayas who came down from the surrounding villages to sell their wares in the city. Always dressed in their super colorful, native garb, they are one of the major reasons to visit Antigua, since no other place has as many native Americans as does Guatemala

A great outdoors right in the center of the main town of Antigua. Easily accessible to all local places by foot. They have people playing music and benches to sit and relax. Walk around town and you won’t be disappointed. Loved our experience there !

Busy park with lots of vendors. Very busy during the day and early evening. Would rate higher but the first night here my wife saw a huge rat 🐀 in the middle of the park. She pointed it out and I saw it just sitting there. It scared her and unfortunately kind of ruined the experience. We did go back during the day and didn't see anything but were on guard the whole time.

Beautiful place. Very colorful. You can buy lots of stuff here, get your shoes shined, and likely find pretty much anything you are looking for! I love all colors and the mix of local people and tourists. Lots of good cafe's around!

We got to see it in daylight and nighttime. Pretty safe to walk around, you pay 1 fee for decal to park. Streets are made of stones, it reminds me of cartagena but better. We had a wheelchair and mostly we could stay on sidewalk. People are extremely nice, very helpful and polite. Whenever we needed help with wheelchair, we had several hands to lift it up. For its super affordable and good. Most of the houses have a corridor and a garden that make them so beautiful. I saw the most beautiful church. Lots of street food, but was warned not to eat.

This park features plenty of nice photography shots. The shops around it are awesome, and the historic monuments are a must see. The palace is one of my favorite spots. At night the park has concerts, vendors, street food, street performers etc.

Very vibrant park with local stands in the weekend. And lots of shops, ATM and cafe restaurants around it. A beautiful fountain ⛲️ in the middle. Lots of locals selling goods inside.

Very historical place where you can find people selling souvenirs, feed the doves, and also a nice fountain in the middle. Around the area you find everything, from atms, food and even massages (for $15 dollars for 40 min) you can't beat that. :) there is a church and a university besides it. When we arrive there was a farmers market and it was a Saturday (I don't know how often that goes for)

Beautiful, lively center of town where you can find a bench or railing to sit and take a break from walking around. Lots of great photo spots and locals selling souvenirs. Great place to take in all the sounds of the city, and gaze around for the next stop on your wandering day. Across from the cathedral is a block lined with restaurants, cafes, and the large market with anything you could ever need in terms of souvenirs. There is an ATM hall on the same wall as Cafe Barista, and if you walk toward volcán Agua on the same street as the yellow arch, you’ll find another hall of ATM machines very close to Monoloco. Across from Barista is a newer free museum where you can enjoy lots of art and history. This plaza is gorgeous during the day and at night!

I love Antigua, the magical place that sees me born, is full of memories, a beautiful colonial place, where streets are rocks and everything is colonial, vintage, full of traditions, and a beautiful place full of Mayan culture, and amazing indigenous Mayan persons.

The most relaxed park in centro America! With a lot of fiestas and a super relaxed atmosphere. We planned to stay for a week but stayed for 5 weeks...

The central park was a pleasant and essential part of our trip to Antigua. It's beautiful and vibrant to the say the least! Amazing stores and vendora with beautiful crafts, street food, coffee. We were lucky to be staying within walking distance of this place so got to enjoy multiple trips to the market. Especially the weekend pop market right in the park area.
