Constructed from 1634 to 1641 during the reign of Emperor Shah Jahan, Wazir Khan Masjid is one of the finest examples of Mughal architecture and kashi-kari/mosaic tile art work. The Masjid is very close to Delhi Gate and in the middle of a very crowded neighborhood, right inside the old walled city of Lahore. PLEASE DO NOT TAKE YOUR CAR 🚗 🚙 when visiting the Masjid 🕌. The streets are extremely busy and very narrow, so take a rickshaw 🛺 or a Careem/Uber. Wazir Khan himself was the chief “tabeeb”/doctor of the Mughal court and later also became the governor of Punjab. He is know for constructing several buildings in Lahore. The Mosque 🕌 also has the tomb of the great Sufi, Miran Badshah. The Mosque 🕌 is currently being renovated; however, much attention and funds should be expended to restore this great jewel 💎 from the past.

The mosque hosts the shrine of Saint Sakhi Saif Souf also linked with Shahi Guzargah. Behind mosque the street link to Khalifa Baker. visitor who plan to go Khalifa baker can follow the path behind this masjeed.

This is a 17th century mosque in the heart of old Lahore. I have to say, it's one of the more 'artsy' mosques in the city - nay, country. Absolutely gorgeous, the mosque is an architectural masterpiece that's a very interesting blend of Indian and Persian architectural styles. It's brick walls are covered by glazed tiles and intricate frescoes. Ultimately, the mosque makes for a unique, totally mesmerizing and memorable experience. The approach is through old Lahore's Delhi Gate and then through Chitta Gate. You get to it by passing through busy and winding narrow streets. That unto itself is an experience - especially for foreigners! Strongly recommended!

WE took guided tour for visiting this mosque. Our guide was very polite and he has the knowledge of history about the mosque. One of the beautiful mosque with great architect. Walk through the bazaar to reach the mosque. The mosque has been preserved but need more cleaning. No entry fee just take off your shoes to enter the mosque. This place is surrounded by many other attractions. We visited the mosque with our foreigner friends from Portugal, They liked the place very much.

The Wazir Khan Mosque is 17th century mosque located in the city of Lahore, capital of the Pakistani province of Punjab. The mosque was commissioned during the reign of the Mughal Emperor Shah Jahan as part of an ensemble of buildings that also included the nearby Shahi Hammam baths. Construction of Wazir Khan Mosque began in 1634 C.E., and was completed in 1641. It is on the UNESCO World Heritage Tentative List. Considered to be the most ornately decorated Mughal-era mosque, Wazir Khan Mosque is renowned for its intricate faience tile work known as kashi-kari, as well as its interior surfaces that are almost entirely embellished with elaborate Mughal-era frescoes. The mosque has been under extensive restoration since 2009 under the direction of the Aga Khan Trust for Culture and the Government of Punjab, with contributions from the governments of Germany, Norway, and the United States.

Wazir Khan mosque was built in 1634 by Shaikh Ilm-ud-din Ansari, Viceroy of Punjab under Shah Jahan. Ansari hailed from humble origins in the town of Chiniot in the Jhang district of the Punjab. He studied medicine under Hakim Dawi and was hired by the Mughal court as the personal physician of Prince Kuram, the future Shah Jehan. The young prince was so taken with Ansari's competence that he awarded him with the title Wazir Khan in 1620. Wazir is a title meaning "Minister" in Urdu. Wazir Khan acquired a large tract of land in Lahore bounded by the Delhi Gate to the east and the Lahore Fort to the west. He founded the mosque that now bears his name on the site of the tomb of Syed Muhammed Ishaq (also known as Miran Badshah), a saint who had migrated from Iran in the 13th century. Wazir Khan also established a bathhouse (Shahi Hammam) and other commercial establishments along the road to the mosque whose income was intended to ensure maintenance of the mosque into perpetuity. Although the bathhouse did not provide as much income as intended, the bazaar to the east of the mosque was quite successful and remains a flourishing market even to the present day. The mosque's distinguishing architectural feature is the use of minarets at each of its four corners--the first time such a design was employed in Lahore. The prayer hall follows the one-aisle five-bay motif that was first established in Lahore a generation earlier at the Maryam Zamani Mosque, which was later to find its full expression in the Badshahi Mosque built by Emperor Aurangzeb a half century later. Much of the mosque is constructed of cut and dressed brick decorated with glazed tile mosaics. A curious feature of the mosque is the incorporation of 22 shops into its ground plan. Situated on either side of the entrance hall, these shops form a bazaar with a brick-paved passage in between. This commercial area extends east beyond the mosque into the Chowk Wazir Khan (Wazir Khan Square) which remains a vibrant commerical district to the present day.

The mosque was built in 1634 by Hakim Ilmud Din, popularly known as Wazir Khan and Viceroy of Punjab during the reign of the Mughal Emperor Shah Jahan. This period is characterised by great architectural innovations in Lahore, generated by the prosperity of the Mughal Empire. The walls of the Wazir Khan mosque are covered with mosaics made of glazed pottery and tiles. Inside the mosque, panels displaying verses from the Koran are the main decor. The four octagonal minarets are a distinctive feature, and this mosque is one of earliest to use this type.

Considered to be one of the most decorated mosque, is situated inside the walled city close to Dehli gate. Close by there is alsonthe recently restored shahi hammam. Mosque is being restored, but sadly whenever I visit, I see it in even worse shape. A mosque is supposed to be open 24/7 however when we arrived the gates were locked and the person inside said he did not had the key, will have to wait around 8 for team to arrive. Around 820 the team arrived and the sane guy inside opened the gate. In a mosque and lying???

Jamia Masjid Wazir Khan, Lahore. This Masjid is located in old Lahore under Delhi gate. Masjid Wazir Khan built by king shahjahan. Mazar Mubarak of Syed Muhammad Ishaq Hussaini famous as Syed miran badshah located in center of the Masjid. This Masjid had more then 100 shops around the Masjid known as dehli bazar. After creation of Pakistan this Masjid played a main role in tehreek e khatm e nabuwat and is known as head quarter of this tehreek. And this is the main reason qadiyani nawaz people or beurocreate don't want to famous this Masjid but when GOD choose someone for some special task then no one can defeat and Baba g is the real example of it.

One of the famous mosques in Lahore which has an old hundreds of years old history. Somehow, it requires the government department to look at it to preserve this gift from the past. One of the most beautiful historical gem in our country, good to see that now it is very well maintained and kept by the local government, lack of cleanliness was an issue in the past but now it is not, people should keep in mind it is a place of worship not just any other historical building so they must behave accordingly,

Emperor Shah Jahan was one of the greatest patrons of Mughal architecture and left a legacy of many structures throughout India and Pakistan, most notably the Taj Mahal. Of all the monuments he commissioned, the Wazir Khan Mosque stands apart in the sheer scale of its decorative features, which display the sublime artistic skill of the period and the diversity of its cultural influences. The mosque’s architectural elements also synthesize far-flung regional styles. The front face of the complex consists of the central iwan (entrance façade) and the Chahar Taq (the entrance building) flanked by corridors of shops. The incorporation of a bazaar into the mosque complex is a feature of Central Asian architecture, while the form of the Chahar Taq is a Persian element. Projecting from the iwan are two balconies that represent a local, Lahori influence which was equally assimilated into the Mughal style.

I went to see this mosque many years ago. I was completely enthralled by the beauty of the colour of the precious stones and how they compose with the rest of building materials used - essentially beige studded with bright stones in the form of florals, freso(I wouldn't know the terms, yet designs excite me, just the same), decorative caligraphy in Arabic that are from the Qur'an. A super mosque hidden inside the market. Plenty of sounds and spice smells before you reach it. And then inside it is serene. Gorgeous Central Asian architecture and totally different from the dominant Mogul bldgs Lahore is famous for. A must see for sure.

Extremely disappointed and sad to see that this beautiful mosque and national heritage is being damaged and not maintained. I was surprised to see that ordinary laborers were repairing bricks and no historical evidence was kept safe. But it is extremely beautiful masjid and a very big one with 4 big minaar. Made of red bricks it gives beautiful look. Must place visit nearby other historical places like Delhi Gate, Mochi Gate, Nisar Haveli etc.

The amount of hard work that would have been went to make this mosque and its detailed work is insane. Every corner and every wall is filled with beautiful artwork which makes it unique. Some area of the mosque is not in good condition which needs maintenance and repair work. Other than that this mosque is a must visit when in Lahore. Highly recommended.

The detailed Islamic design and architecture of the mosque takes you back to the time when Muslims ruled over the subcontinent. You will find complicated fine patterns decorating the walls – mosaic design also known as kashi kari, fresco painting, engraved stones and brick outline fresco (taza kari) that add to the mosque’s uniqueness. Mosque, the area all are so beautiful. I can’t walk there all day and never get tired. The is one of the must visit places in Lahore and all Pakistan. This city is love ❤️. Highly recommend to walk and have some street food and enjoy the place The amount of hard work that would have been went to make this mosque and its detailed work is insane. Every corner and every wall is filled with beautiful artwork which makes it unique. Some area of the mosque is not in good condition which needs maintenance and repair work. Other than that this mosque is a must visit when in Lahore. Highly recommended.

A captivating place and very spiritual and peaceful, authorities are trying their best to preserve & recover it in its original state. The fountain in the middle of the mosque is not functional anymore I think it's closed permanently due to the fear of the dengue virus, after Maghreb prayer children recite Holy Quran, and at prayer times visitors are not allowed to come & have to wait until the prayer ends because it's a sacred and religious place. On public Holidays like EID and other special days Mosque usually remains closed and open only during prayer time, so it's not recommended to visit this place on public holidays or special days.

Wazir Khan acquired a large tract of land in Lahore bounded by the Delhi Gate to the east and the Lahore Fort to the west. He founded of the tomb of Syed Muhammed Ishaq (also known as Miran Badshah), a saint who had migrated from Iran in the 13th century.

MASJID WAZIR KHAN is a 17th century masjid built during Mughal Empire. Mughal Empire on Pakistan-India sub continent erected good number of construction monuments that include many masajids as well. MASJ WAZIR KHAN is one of those monuments. It is built within walled city of Lahore. Quite spacious masjid accomodatable thousands of worshippers at a time. It experiences capacity crowds only on eid occasions. It is a landmark of Mughal Architecture. Although it is being taken care of by Auqaf authorities of Punjab Government yet it needs even improved care to have it preserved for the future generations.

It's a masjid not a shopping mall or modeling center. Dear girls and beautiful ladies. Please respect this place we know God Created you as so much beautiful but please control yourself It's a masjid. Don't make TikTok here and avoid modeling, be in proper dressing and dopatta. We have just limited places with beauty. So please avoid modeling. You have a lot of places around the masjid for modeling. Visit the whole market and enjoy more.

It connects people with their past, and with one another. ... Historic buildings provide a sense of stability and provide a tangible link with the past that all can experience.

Walls and roofs are covered with perta dura and inlay work. Has a basement as well and a way to go on the roof top but you need to take the permission from the authorities. It has a pond for ablution. Students also visit the site for their assignment purposes. Avoid taking awkward pose photos that might offend people.

Not well managed in most important part which is Salah(Imam, Qari) This is Mosque (a place for worshipping) So its not a good thing or not any Civilised Nation believe that to Charge for the Keeping Shoes outside of the Mosque, or making trend that a shoes keeper should be paid by visitors or worshippers

Built in the 17th Century, this Masjid is a standing manifestation of the classy Mughal architecture.. Each tile, each brick, it's minarets, the main hall, yard, gumbad, everything has seen 4 decades of Lahore changing hands from the Mughals to the Sikhs to British and then stood witness for an independent Pakistan.. The place is peaceful tranquil. If you are looking for some peaceful time, just sit in its yard for an hour after Fajar prayers and you might find inner peace..

From the name of Wazir Khan Mosque, it is obvious that this mosque was built by Wazir Khan. Wazir Khan Mosque was built two hundred years ago by Wazir Khan. The design of this mosque is so beautiful that no matter how many times you visit this mosque, you never get tired of it. This mosque is a masterpiece of architecture. Wazir Khan Mosque is located inside Delhi Gate Lahore. This mosque is always crowded with tourists. Tourists from foreign countries are seen here all the time. There is a bazaar right next to the mosque where you can buy all the necessities of life. I think if someone is really fond of seeing old buildings and architecture and he has been to Lahore but has not seen Wazir Khan Masjid, it means he has not seen anything till date.

The mosque is beautiful built. It it is an old mosque older than the royal mosque lahore. Right now it is not in a good shape. New construction work is on. But one can see the old design and colour. For the people who like History and Past it is a beautiful place to visit. It can be a lot better if it is managed properly.

Masjid Wazir Khan is a historical site of the Mughal Era located inside the walled city of Lahore (Old Lahore). It is hardly a few minutes walk from the well known Delhi gate. This walk in particular is a time machine letting you feel your presence in ancient times. Masjid itself is a great place to visit for history lovers. The main entrance of the masjid holds artistic outlets. The minarates reminds of the wonders the Mughal architects made. There exists a tomb of a sufi inside the masjid premises. A narrow stairway takes you down to the underground cave where the sufi saint is buried. The renovation work in parallel continues these days.
