Nice church with many historical facts incorporated into it. The church was right on the front line in 1944 and was rebuilt from scratch after the war.

The first church on site was built in 1685. After it fell into disrepair, it was demolished and the foundation stone for a new church was laid in 1866. This was destroyed to the ground during the Battle of All Souls in 1944. There was a lack of money to rebuild the church after the Second World War. The pastor's emphatic sermon, which pointed out that the proceeds from the booming coffee smuggling from nearby Belgium should also be used to rebuild the church, led to a large anonymous donation to the offering box.

There are two special rooms in this church. One is decorated to commemorate the war. The other is a tourist information point where you can find everything about the nature of the Rureifel. You can also purchase walking route 80 (Kreuzweg des Friedens) in the church for 50 cents, which passes memorable points of the battle for the Hürtgen Forest in 44/45.

The nativity scene is beautiful again, but not as beautiful as it was a few years ago. I really liked the star roof in the entrance area

Schmidt is a place near Rursee with around 3000 inhabitants. Everything you need for daily life is there. Doctor, pharmacy, restaurants - hotel, holiday apartments, wooded area, ideal hiking trails and borders on the Eifel Nature Park. The environment is partly romantic and inviting. There are many beautiful options with lovely towns all around within a radius of approx. 5 to 25 km, such as: B. Castles in Nideggen, with a museum and Heimbach and Monschau... Nearby is the so-called "Hohe Venn", one of the last raised moors.. And there are always sights in almost every town, in Monschau a special center with e.g. B. a glassblowing workshop and several pretty little handicraft shops, all covered with a large parking lot on the Rur. These places are particularly popular with neighboring countries such as the Netherlands or Belgium. Approximately 30 km from Schmidt is the old, imperial coronation city of Aachen, which was already populated by the Romans in ancient times. The imperial throne of Charles the Elder is visible in the cathedral. Great... Precious treasures in the cathedral treasury... Much more.

Was in church. The information about this is very interesting. It's nice that it's an open church ⛪.
