Schwetzinger Spargelfrau

Tourist attraction

👍👍 The super-inspired work is an attraction for all tourists who come to Schwetzingen. First to take a picture with the asparagus seller and then to admire it from the nearby terrace where you can quietly enjoy a beer looking at passers-by. People often mention asparagus,

The sculpture is completely original. At least she lowers her gaze to her product, the asparagus. So she doesn't have to look over at this hideous pig that is being ridden by the Elector. No idea to the subtle and artistic patron of the sciences and the arts

An impressive bronze sculpture, which is approximately 2.5m high. The artwork shows an asparagus grower standing at the "royal vegetable" stand and offering them to a little girl with a dog. On the table you can also see the typical hand tools used for harvesting and processing asparagus. The sculpture honors the nearly 350-year-old traditions of growing and selling asparagus in this region. Elector Kārlis Teodors grew them in his palace garden already in the 17th century.

Schwetzingen Castle and castle gardens are always great. The 2022 Festival of Lights was very beautiful and worth being there.

Well, the Asparagus Woman belongs to Schwetzingen like Manneken Pis belongs to Brussels. And ultimately it is just as unspectacular. A nice scene for tourists to take a souvenir photo.

Detailed sculpture. It's right next to the castle. Perfect if there is an asparagus stall next to it.

I discovered these bronze sculptures while walking across the Schlossplatz in Schwetzingen. The asparagus women at work. A sculpture worth seeing for every visitor to the place.

Especially during the asparagus and strawberry season, you can get these regional delicacies at several stands every day. You can still get these even on Sunday afternoons. Always super fresh and extremely tasty. And always friendly salespeople.

Beautiful and above all clean little town. Unfortunately the castle is closed due to Corona. Motorhome parking space with disposal, no electricity, available. Surface: grass paving stones. 15 minutes by foot into the city. Heidelberg or Speyer are easily accessible via cycle path.
