One of the most peaceful and hidden gems we visited during the last weeks. Lean back, soak in the atmosphere and be inspired. There are plenty changes to sit down and enjoy. Sometimes there are exhibitions in the manor closeby. During our visit, there was an exhibition of a local photographer. It was included to the entrance fee. You can park on the opposite side of the main entrance.

Lovely ruins that accentuate the vastness and magnitude of the Abbey from its original condition, with much more light, wind, and birds flying through. The Abbey feels like mystical and romantic ruins that are waiting to be discovered. Really enjoyed my visit, and it was a great break from other attractions.

A place sure worth visiting. We were intrigued by the history of the ruins and nature. The information leaflet we received upon entry was helpful to grasp the richness and magnitude of the abbey. The house at the far end did not meet our expectations, but we were happy to have walked down there anyway. For parents: better to use a baby carrier than a stroller to make sure you can get around the entire terrain.

Wonderful ruins of an abbey built in the 900’s (yes! I did not miss a 1 there). Its history tells you the history of Normandy, the Vikings, the 100 year religious wars, the Industrial Revolution, the Romantic period — all of it. Highly recommend, can be combined with a walk in the nearby Breton Forrest.

A Timeless Masterpiece: Unforgettable Experience at Abbaye de Jumièges The visit to Abbaye de Jumièges is an encounter with a timeless beauty, an eloquent testament to centuries of monastic life and Norman history. This ancient abbey, nestled in the verdant Seine valley, offers a mesmerizing blend of tranquility and charm that is impossible to forget. First and foremost, the ruins themselves are truly magnificent. The soaring towers, echoing remnants of what was once among the most significant and powerful Benedictine monasteries in the whole of medieval France, stand in silent testament to the changing courses of history. Whether you are a history enthusiast or not, it's impossible not to be awe-struck by the sheer grandeur of these ruins, imbued with the spirit of ages past. Strolling through the park-like setting is a treat for the senses. Nature has reclaimed the site with grace, wrapping the ancient stone with verdant vines and trees that offer serene spots to sit and reflect. The peaceful environment is ideal for relaxation and contemplation. What makes Abbaye de Jumièges stand out even more is the way it beautifully blends past and present. Throughout the year, various cultural events, concerts, and exhibitions take place here, bringing the ancient stones back to life and allowing the abbey to continue to serve as a gathering place and cultural hub. The visitor center is well-organized, with informative displays providing insights into the abbey's history. The staff is friendly, welcoming, and knowledgeable, eager to answer any queries. There is also a small gift shop filled with a variety of interesting items and books. All in all, the Abbaye de Jumièges provides a profound, enriching experience that speaks to the soul. It's a journey through time, a connection with history, and an unforgettable encounter with the serene beauty of nature. A definite must-visit for anyone touring this part of France. Highly recommended for those seeking an immersion in history, culture, and tranquility.

It's my third time coming to this beautiful abbey. It gives a relaxing energy and especially a great heritage. Unfortunately, I forgot my camera but here are some shots taken with my phone.

Wonderful Abbey with an unfortunate past, its architecture stands broken and abandoned, but nevertheless beautiful and amazing. The area around it is also very beautiful

Very impressive ruined monastery in the centre of the village. There is still much to see. The guide leaflet that is included in the admission is helpful to find your way around. The grounds are large so you can keep to yourself and view the site at your own pace if you want to. There are information boards around in several languages to help you understand what you are seeing.

A must see ruin if you are in the area. We spent a couple of hours exploring the abbey and ground. It's a spectacular imposing building.

Very impressive 11th century ruin with newer architectural flourishes, including Gothic arches and windows.

Stopped on our cycle tour with our Boost e-bike converted road bike. Beautiful river crossings and roads. The Abbey unfortunately has no where to keep bikes and so we couldn't go inside as we didn't have locks. Should recommend bringing them if you plan to have a walk around!

In just an hour you can walk around and take pictures of the main structure. But to walk along the paths deeper, it is advisable to arrive early.

A few inconveniences to start with: they close over lunch (but everyone has to eat sometime I guess) and the price of €7 is not cheap. That being said, it’s a beautifully maintained and organised building. Restoration and preservation have been done with the utmost care, and the booklet contains a lot of information. The grounds are well kept and clean so it’s really worth a stroll. People working here are friendly and helpful.

This place is absolutely stunning! Just beautiful to walk around the abbey and imagine how it could have been in previous times. Really nice place to take a nice walk around or sit in the gardens to chill with that incredible view. There’s a car park near by or even in front of the abbey you can park in town if you find a free spot. Don’t miss it because it is really worth it!

Amazing ruins of ancient church. It's very interesting walking around and discover beautiful point of view. There are many chairs to rest, I went here in january so the weather was very cloudy, but in the spring could be better. I suggest to visit during the week, when there are bit people. This Abbaye is a magic place, where closing you eyes and imagine the ancient atmosphere. The ancient trees enrich the scenery.

Jumieges Abbey 24 Rue Guillaume le Conquérant, 76480 Jumièges, France Great ruins. You can see nature attempting to grow on stones. Look for a drawing of a monk about 8 feet from the ground. Huge trees. There are benches / chairs to sit on if you need them. We were there on a sunny day. It was beautiful. Monastery founded by St. Philibert in 654. In the ninth century, it was pillaged and burnt to the ground by the Vikings, but was rebuilt on a grander scale by William Longespee, Duke of Normandy (d 942).

Jumièges is a small village in the Seine-Maritime department in the Normandy region in France. It has 1,740 inhabitants. There is the Abbey of Jumièges, a masterpiece of Romanesque architecture, founded in 654 by San Filiberto and later remodeled.

We got here an hour before the closing and it was perfect timing. There were very few people so we could really enjoy the atmosphere of this place. It's very beautiful and romantic spot.

At the time of our visit there was some art installation going on that was kind of strange, but the abbey itself is a fun place. Very gothic with it's abandoned, crumbling walls.

Beautiful abbey, and full of art displays. We enjoyed it very much. It is not 5 stars because dogs are not allowed in when they could definitely be in my opinion (with maybe restricted access).

  • 5/5 Arturo C. 1 year ago on Google
This is a hidden jewel. Full of history. The ruins are very cool. There are interesting art installations. The gardens, the trees, everything is very cool. Also the photo oportunities are beyond my expectations.

There's parking right there, the entry fee is nearly free, the restrooms are across the street and are free plus you can walk all over the place to stretch your legs. A very worthwhile stop on your Normandy road trip!!!

Amazing place to spend an afternoon to view and have a walk around. The only min points are the toilets which are dirty and not under any standard for such a historic place

  • 5/5 GGE N. 2 years ago on Google
Totally worth coming up here to see the remains of what might have been one the greatest buildings of its kind
