It's good for a family trip because of a short time trekking tour and many places to take good pictures. People often gather at the main falls, without going to the another just 30 mins from there. A little bit tough with children but no problem with adults. Hope you guys can find it!

Beautiful quick walk down to the waterfall viewing platform. We visited in summer, so everything was green rather than an array of fall colors, but either way, a beautiful area.

Akiu Great Falls. Did a detour to visit this waterfall in Sendai, Miyagi prefecture. Also had a chance to try out the iPhone camera’s tricks to make the waterfall more picturesque! There is some steps down to see the bottom of where the waterfall plunges so wear some good shoes to hike downwards.

Crazy beautiful. Worth a day trip just to check it out. Nice hiking trails too that aren’t too difficult. Family friendly.

Waterfall absolutely beautiful! Very serene beautiful area. I wish I could in the bottom of the waterfall! The shrine and temple was magical as usual :) A great early morning adventure to start the day off!

Lush vegetation in July. Hot and humid. Refreshing to receive a fine waterspray from the waterfall. There is a path down to the waterfall, where it is possible to have a dip in the cool water.

I visited here on Nov 4th. The autumn leaves were awesome. There is a parking lot next to the main road and another one near to the path you walk to the water fall. The second one is small and you may not find a space. Both are for free. You can park your car to the main one and walk about 10 mins instead. There is an observation deck, restaurant, small shop, local goods etc. There is also a botanical garden, closes at 16:00 during winter season. There is a temple as well. The water fall is great and very tall. The color of the leaves complete the composition. A beautiful scenery, must see place if you are visiting Sendai.

Loved this short hike. You can actually park closer to the falls if you want to go all the way down. It’s the parking by the bridge. Instead of going to the parking lot itself. But for me I didn’t mind the longer hike. It takes around 30 mins to get down and up round trip. There’s a temple and also some shops you can buy dango and fish from. The trail itself is well maintained. Love this experience.

Great place to go exploring and get in the water. Although you do have to go down a million stairs it is a great journey to undertake. The pictures that one can take here are absolutely great. If you are adventurous enough you can go wherever you want.

Great waterfall. A bit slippery in winter. The transportation was inconvenient, but there is a rest house to keep you warm in winter. Not many visitors on the weekdays.

A nice gateaway place. It isn't far from the city and easy to reach too. You need to go downstairs to reach the waterfall and it isn't that far walking; around 5 minutes I guess. Nearby, they have a shrine and a small place to buy local things, such as tea leaves and snacks. I don't know how to get here by public transportation, since my friend drive me here.

It's a beautiful place and is not that far from Sendai City. You can go by bus.

Was very beautiful even with snow falling. Be careful though as spots on hike were very icy and slippery!

Took a bus from Sendai stations bus depot bound for Akiu Otaki which was the easiest in my opinion, bus gives you 2 hours till it comes back. Wasn't as busy as I assumed it would be. Would be careful of the steep stairs and you'll need to climb on rocks for the last few steps to the river. Definitely worth it, the water is cool on this hot day (28c/83f) which is a nice reward for the journey.

Enjoy the falls from the bridge and observation areas but definitely worth hiking down for a dip in the waters. The 5-star comes from the journey down and having the place to yourself.
