Beautiful gardens in numerous designs, each with its own theme. You could spend a whole day in these gorgeous surroundings. Interesting Great hall and Toy museum and access to a small part of the house

A nice place to visit, £14 is the entry fee to see the house, grounds, toy museum, garden, and children's playground. Complete with a toilet, free car park and a cafe. Also includes a gift shop. There was lots to see. There is a church nearby that you can go through to walk round the land round the place if you don't want to pay to see the house. Altogether, an enjoyable experience.

Great house and garden to visit. It’s independent property, therefore, you will have to pay every time to visit the property. The collection in the house are interesting and the hall has the original roof dated back in 14 century. We had lunch and coffee and cakes there. All nice apart from the cakes were a bit dry. There is farmer’s market on Saturday until 12pm. Free parking.

A fantastic historic house and gardens with lots to see and do for all the family. The house itself is absolutely beautiful. My children were excited to see somewhere Henry VIII actually stayed and the link with Harry Potter and we loved seeing where Wolf Hall had been filmed. The gardens are absolutely beautiful. There’s a large adventure playground, a good coffee shop and the Toy Museum. There was also free crafting and a fantastic falcon display by Joe’s Bows. Entry for a family of four was £36.

Large stately home with lots of history set in beautiful gardens. Best to visit these places during the week if possible as it’s quieter with easy entry no waiting. Easy to walk around mainly flat. Will go again.

Projection of power This property is full of items that let us know quite how posh the current owners really are. They have orders of service and chairs from the late Queen’s coronation, stacks of paintings of ancestors and, of course, hampers stamped with the Fortnum & Mason logo (No less than six, in fact!) Perhaps the biggest claim to poshness can be found in the Baron’s Hall, which the guide proudly told us dated back to 1341 - or more than four centuries before the United States of America! Visitors to this monument to the past may find their attention drawn to a painting hanging on the left-hand-side of the room. In it, they will observe lots of posh people enjoying wine and light refreshments within Baron’s Hall. But look a bit closer and they will spot no less than the late Queen Mother, dressed in green, standing next to… you’ve guessed it… the hall’s owners Mr and Mrs Sidney themselves! By dint of their proximity to royalty, this painting proclaims their poshness above all other posh people’s poshness. They are laying claim to being, in fact, the poshest of the posh. (But not quite as posh as the royals though, because that would be treason). I would thoroughly recommend a visit to this house! It does contain many one-of-a-kind items and buildings that are so old that even myself, a diehard Brit, was amazed. Staff are very friendly and always keen to have a chat and let you know more about what you’re seeing. They also have a sense of humour. Upon popping into the weapons room, I proclaimed ‘oh look mother, it’s the how to kill people room!’, prompting laughter from nearby staff. The kitchen is run by youths but food is served promptly and is still warm! The gardens are beautiful too, even when it is raining (although they do have a bindweed problem, Mr and Mrs Sidney may wish to invest in a few more gardeners). Overall, a lovely visit and would thoroughly recommend!

We had a lovely day out. The gardens are excellent, especially the long borders. The house is an architectural masterpiece! Only negative is the food. Very basic and more like a greasy spoon. Everything serving paper trays. My wife has a bacon sandwich and could not eat it because it was so greasy. She had already taken her diabetes injection prior to it arriving so we had to stop elsewhere on the way home. I had a brie panini which was equally bland. Coffee was good though. Summary. Gardens excellent, but go elsewhere for your lunch

If I could, I’d give this place 4.5 stars. Overall it’s a nice place to visit, it’s easily accessible by car and offers convenient parking. If someone asked me to give a feedback on different facilities, that would be House: 5/5 Garden: 5/5 Playground: 4/5 Cafe: 4/5 The house is small, but packed with fine furniture, beautiful tableware, a lot of portraits, medieval armour and so on. The tour around the house would probably take about 30-45 minutes. There’s also a museum of toys, where you can find many different sorts of old toys. In the garden you can find many apple trees, beautiful landscaping, some sculptures. The only thing is that the garden is currently under renovation caused by 2022 heat. Also the garden is not too large, but it’s nice overall. The playground is pretty large and offers different kinds of activities. Most of it is made of wood. There are climbing nets, zip line, swings and seesaws. I didn’t like that there’s so many tires used in it’s design. Cafe offers breakfast, sandwiches, salads, coffee and cakes. Overall food is good, but child package is junk food really, wouldn’t recommend it at all.

The gardens are beautiful with plenty of spots for a lovely picnic. The kids playground is nice also set on quite a large area allowing parents to relax while still keeping an eye on their little ones having fun. There is also a nice Cafe on site for those looking to grab a quick bite. I've seen numerous cyclists making this a stop on their long rides to have a cuppa.

A stunning place to touch history. A beautiful, simply huge garden, a toy museum and a hall of knightly armor. It's a pity you can't see the whole castle, because the rest is inaccessible. There is also a children's play complex. An ideal place to spend time with the whole family.

The historical house and plentiful gardens are easily worth 1-2 hours of your time. The gardens have a variety of styles, reasonable flat access to most, and some benches to sit on throughout. The house had nice signs outside for the history (including the many kings/queens that owned or visited it), then a one pager in each room with additional details on its purpose and key items. Though a big house there are only 9 rooms to see across 3 floors (1 being the lower ground crypt), which could be seen in 15-30 minutes depending on how much you want to read/look. Stairs were pretty easy between them. Also check out the included Toy Museum next door - it's essentially a large room with some signs, but worth a brief look (perhaps 10-15 minutes depending on level of interest). The porcupine cafe and gift shop were both nice. Toilets were a little dated but fine, and plenty of parking in the grass field. Note: Though no signs at the desk, it is part of the Historical houses Membership scheme so if you're a member show your card for free entry.

Enjoyed first time visit. Staff really engaging with house history. Sadly weather only allowed short trip into the grounds and garden. Cafe lovely and not over priced. Will be back in summer.

Absolutely stunning place! You're surrounded in history and beautiful scenery, it's hard to take everything in. We spent nearly 4 hours here without even knowing it. We highly recommend this!

Visited on the bank holiday Monday and it wasn’t too busy to our surprise. Got the pass for House and Gardens and even though the recent heat left the gardens a bit worse for wear it was still lovely - the house itself has a lot of reading so if you love that you’re in for an information feast! We did a bit of reading but not everything. Each room has a laminate guide and details for each painting which is such a good idea - most places you have to all crowd around a painting to read about it. The toy museum is good fun too! I think It’s good value for money and has some great historical details and its beautiful!!

Beautiful gardens. The toy museum although small was delightful and the children loved it. The children's play area was great fun too with age suitable equipment and children can feed the chickens. Cafe and gift shop for ice creams and cakes.

Very dry but the gardens still looked beautiful. Especially enjoyed the Joe's Bows Falconry Show which was a real bonus

Nice castle and gardens. Rooms in the house are nicely filled and decorated with a lot to see. Loved the barons hall and the kitchen (which apparantly is new in 2023). Next to the house there is a small toy museum and a beautifull garden to explore. The set up in the garden is fantastic so you tumble in a new discovery after every corner. Impressive!

We visited on a sunny early spring day and had a great time. The adventure playground was a lot of fun for our kids, but they also loved the gardens with their labyrinthine rooms. We didn't visit the house this time but will do in future, as we'll be back I'm sure. The Porcupine Cafe is good too - less pretentious than some of the cafés at similar venues, and decent enough prices. It is accessed outside the grounds and so seemed popular with walkers and cyclists on a day out.

Great day out. Grounds and garden are lovely and can't wait for summer when the rose and nut gardens come into their own. The house is interesting and informative with friendly staff who are helpful and knowledgeable about the great history of Sydney family.
