A hidden gem in Shelburne, that’s for damn sure. It was a little tough finding the restaurant at first but once you go through the hall way…the smell of greatness peaks through. The chefs wife greeted us with a darling smile and great attitude, well educated on the menu as well. I ordered a cappuccino and a regular brewed coffee…both tasty and smooth. The duck fat fries are hand cut and tastes divine, it almost has a truffle finish to it. The chef is very flexible and you can tell by the open concept kitchen that he loves what he does and with ease. It was a pleasure coming here and we will be back for more.

BTG is THE gem of Shelburne, with an exquisite French cuisine menu and surprise specials from chef Frédéric. Friendly staff, a cozy patio experience and a crepe for any occasion, this place helps to satisfy the culinary gaps in the local area and offer a solution for a nice night out with friends or family.

Great spot. Freddy is an outstanding host aside from his food being the best in the area and surrounding. The sauces are traditional french butter sauces and elevate every plate they are on. The daily fish dishes are my go to. Always spectacular. The meats are cooked perfectly. The crepes are what originally brought us there. If you are having a night out plan on going there. Just trust me. Then come back and tell me I was right.

Wow what an amazing experience at this cozy little spot. The Campagnarde Crepes were simply divine!! The shrimp scampi was also amazing with delicious flavors. The Boston cream crepe was just the right amount of sweetness that we shared. Excellent service Highly recommend

We stopped by our way to Sauble Beach. Really enjoyed the flavourful and juicy skirt stake. The wine sauce on the top was great. My husband order fish of the day, thick fish fillet and butter sauce was very tasty too. Could be little small to have only main dishes like us. I guess it is supposed to have after appetizers and drinks. Would like to try other menus too if we visit again.

Great little restaurant in Shelburne, and an unexpected gem all around. Chef Fred was the only person in-house when we visited, serving as both host/server/chef and provided great, friendly service. We ordered the flat bread starter, scallops and Campagnarde crepe as our mains. Ingredients were top-notch quality and everything was well-balanced and delicious! Highly recommended if you're in/around Shelburne or as a lunch stop on your way up to cottage country!

Really great French inspired food. Chef Freddy is a great chef. We visited for dinner, and were on a time crunch and made the serving staff aware of this. They were considerate of our time schedule and nothing felt rushed about the experience. Great service and staff. We had 3 dishes: 1. Shrimp Springroll - The pastry was thin and flaky, the seasoning was light and complimented the shrimp well. 2. Flatbread - The best puff pastry I have ever tasted. Simply put, if nothing else, do not miss out on this dish. The toppings were plentiful, and came together well. The light sauce used brought the infusion of flavours together nicely. 3. St Jacques (Scallops) - The scallops were cooked to perfection, accompanied by bacon, mushrooms, peas and a lovely sauce. Delicious. I wish we had more time to try more dishes. The restaurant is small, which seems to allow the chef to focus on quality - it shows. The walls are lined with artwork, which appears to be local artwork. It is great to see this showcased and available for purchase. Suggestion: Have a tasting menu. The food we tried was amazing, I would love to return and try so much more a tasting menu would be a wonderful way to showcase your clear talent.

Lovely quaint restaurant. Different from the usual fare. If you're looking for freshly prepared creations, this is the place! The salad was absolutely delicious! Only appetizers and entrees were offered. If there was a more reasonably priced lunch crepe, I would have ordered it.

Love restaurants like this! Great ambience, a short menu, and friendly staff. I gave four stars because the food was ok, but not so good to be priced so high. Our humble opinion, though.

Fantastic food, prepared wonderfully. The sauces were velvety and delicious. So worth it. The waitress was super pleasant and helpful, and very knowledgeable about food allergy issues. Thank you for a wonderful meal and experience.

We stopped by for brunch on our way to blue mountain, and we had egg Benedict with salmon and beef hash. Fairly speaking I would give 4.5 if possible; although the dishes did not wow me and the portions were smaller compared to similar dishes at other restaurants, both were nicely done with good quality of oil and materials. It is a small restaurant so you may want to make reservations ahead of time.

Definitely call ahead to book a reservation as there are not many tables and it seems to be a very popular place to eat. We live out of town and have been trying to get here for many years as we remember chef Frederick from his days at the Orangeville farmers market. We finally were able to make a reservation on a night where we were in town and VERY GLAD we did. We ordered a French onion soup, house made hummus, a savoury crepe and a fish of the day. Everything was fantastic. Chef Freddie's ability to use flavour in ways that are in perfect proportion without being overpowering is very impressive. The meal was delicious. We would highly recommend Beyond the Gate to anyone looking for a nice meal in served in a small intimate setting.

Delicious, sophisticated food in a comfortable and intimate setting. Arrived at the end of lunch and were treated to a completely unrushed and luxurious experience. Real French food, locally sourced ingredients, and a chef who accommodated a road weary group from 8-70something while delivering a lovely meal. A must do en route to Grey County, worth the drive from Toronto. Really something special.

My husband and I ate here just last night and had a great experience! We felt so welcome and the food was amazing. It’s clear the owner loves his community, he knew everyone who came in. It was a wonderful atmosphere. We will be back again soon and would recommend it to everyone!

The menu was absolutely amazing with many creative, yet authentic to design options. When I go out for dinner, I appreciate a creative plate that I could no where near recreate at home: this was exactly that. The atmosphere was cozy. Somehow they manage to have a great kitchen, great staff and great guests that helps to make it feel like you are a part of a family…even on your first visit. 10/5!
