Wonderful food and ambiance. Friendly service staff. We recently went for the prix fixe dinner/lunch and it was wonderful. Every course was fantastic. Real eye opener. The mushroom soup was unbelievable. The gnocchi superb. Ravioli, delicious. Added: we recently went to their Indian sampler evening and it was indescribably delicious. It was a complete shock. I've had Indian food in great restaurants in London and New York and this was right up there. I posted a picture of the menu.

You know when you wish you can take a restaurant to your town where you can eat their everyday and bring your friends. This is one of those restaurants. Amazing amazing food and over the top flavours. Very friendly staff. Cozy atmosphere. We are looking forward to visiting again.

Lovely little place :) Tucked away in Shelburne is this little gem of a place. Excellent food, perfect, friendly service and relaxed atmosphere make this place a must see. We will go again and again. Can’t wait!

Be warned as this isn't a café, and will be closed before noon. It is a restaurant, which the name doesn't indicate at all. I assume that the food is good, i dont know, because they were closed. The fact that their opening time isn't on google maps is frustrating. Also the name's not really appropriate isn't it? If you ever get in, let me know if their coffee is at least decent...

Great food and great staff

We were here for a birthday dinner and we loved it all. The warmth of the decor, the friendliness of the staff, the gift shop. And the food! Traditional ingredients but inventive ways to use them. You can taste the freshness of everything used in the recipe, the vegetables are perfectly cooked, the sauces are to die for. Amazing variation on Irish coffee in the end. A small mishap in the orders was dealt with speed and grace. A memorable dinner which makes you want to come back to explore the rest of the menu.

They’ll be closing soon sadly, but if you’re around stop by. The food was yummy and the patio outside was lovely.

Always delicious, great, attentive service. We really enjoy the piccata, the soup, and the sticky toffee pudding.

I've been to Charlotte Lane many times, but this was the first time I had the chance to try the King George, filet mignon and lobster tail. I'm someone who loves lobster, and it was excellent, but the steak! I expected a pretty solid steak, but it was the highlight of the plate for me. Pan roasted potatoes and steamed veggies were fantastic as well. Lots of great local beer on tap to enjoy alongside. Wonderful service and a great atmosphere out on the patio. A must stop spot for anyone coming to Nova Scotia, let alone Shelburne.

We had a fabulous lunch here. The seafood chowder was the best I’ve had in Nova Scotia! The pan fried fish was delicious. Highly recommend!

We hosted our wedding dinner and reception here last year (July 2022) and it was fabulous. It was so easy working with Emilie and Nakul to create a perfect meal in an intimate setting. We hosted a small wedding with under 20 people. The back room and adjoining patio fit our needs perfectly. Having private access to the patio off the dining room allowed for us to begin with a standing reception outside before sitting down to dinner. It also provided a space for the small children to have fun. Emilie and Nakul were exceptionally responsive and accommodating in the lead up and during the dinner. The menu options were exciting and catered to a lot of different tastes. We offered both vegetarian and meat options. Salads and pork belly appetisers. Veggie curry, slow-roasted beef for mains. About a quarter of our guests were children and Nakul managed to put together beautiful dishes for the younger guests too. Each course was exceptional! We highly recommend considering this place for your next event. It’s a charming restaurant in Shelburne’s historic district. We’re heading back soon for their Sunday brunch that we’ve heard is to die for. Looking forward to seeing the Charlotte Lane crew again!

We have been going to Charlotte Lane for MANY years and we're a bit worried that the quality would not be as good under the new management. We were very WRONG! Great food, fun drinks and the service was delightful. We had the Haddock Beignets for an appetizer and they were absolutely wonderful! Could have been a full meal. We also had the Scallop, potatoes and veggies special and the scallops melted in the mouth. The veggies were crisp-tender and the seasoning enhanced the dish. We also enjoyed the Bouillabaisse which was was superior! Could not finish everything BUT did make room for the cheesecake. Which also did not disappoint! Absolutely would recommend it to anyone. The menu is posted outside so check it out!

We own a rental suite in town and always recommend the Charlotte Lane Cafe to our guests and they never disappoint. Last night’s guests remarked on the excellent service and the exquisite seafood chowder. I have had a guest tell me they enjoyed the best steak they have ever eaten. My wife and I both rave about the vegetable curry. When in Shelburne, make this one of your go to places for sure

It has been a tradition of my family to go to Charlotte lane with my family once a year and it is always a delightful experience. The food is delicious with a well curated menu of dishes they prepare verry well.

It was a nice restaurant, but there were some things wanting. The atmosphere and table were very nicely set up and clean, and overall the servers were kind. However, the wait was very long to order as well as getting our food, and the air conditioning was blowing right at me, making it very cold. The servers didn't properly address it or seem to care, claiming that the other guests were hot. I would have appreciated a better solution, offering me another place to sit or redirecting where the air blew. The food was good but the portions were small, especially given the price. If I didn't have a full appetizer with my main course I would have gone hungry! But overall it was still a nice restaurant, hence the 4 stars.

Delicious food and fantastic service!

What a delight to enjoy such worldly & delicious food in a small town. We love that they use ingredients like Nova Scotia saffron & micro greens alongside local scallops, while also serving flavourful dishes from India. The staff are attentive without being fussy. A sophisticated yet cosy atmosphere with a rotating menu ensures many return visits!

We just enjoyed the French Tasting Menu which was an 8-course delicious dinner experience. Lovely place, people and food. So glad we chose this to celebrate two special birthdays in the fam 🎈🥳

Enjoyed a delicious dinner here two years ago. So much so, we went twice. Everything is freshly made with quality ingredients. We were hoping to return in May on our next visit to Shelburne. Does anyone know if it is closed temporarily or permanently? There seem to be mixed opinions on this!

I highly recommend the pork belly which was delicious however we also enjoyed the best steak & scallops I’ve ever eaten, so tender & done to perfection. It’s easy to see this chef is a Five Star Chef. I can’t wait to return to Shelburn to try a new dish at this quaint little restaurant

My husband and I visited Charlotte Lane Cafe while visiting Shelburne for our honeymoon. We each enjoyed a lovely cocktail followed by some mussels and tuna tataki. Both were delicious. For dinner, I ordered the mushroom ravioli and my husband got the scallops. We both enjoyed our dinners, but decided the ravioli was the better choice. For dessert we ordered a chocolate cheesecake with passion fruit sauce and peanut butter pie. Both desserts were fantastic, but the peanut butter pie was especially good. Overall we had a wonderful time. The atmosphere was nice and quiet. The servers were very nice. I would definitely recommend stopping by if you’re visiting Shelburne.

We just had a wonderful anniversary dinner at the Charlotte Lane Cafe. We had their current signature cocktail with purple Empress 1908 gin, lemon and simple syrup. We were astonished by the quality of the seafood chowder—delicious broth with perfectly cooked shrimp, scallops and white fish. The tuna tataki appetizer was also delicately braised and very fresh. The local white wine served as a great accompaniment. And dessert? It was a lite, layered mousse-like chocolate delight. We were happy we each got our own. Our server was friendly, engaging, skillful and made our dinner especially enjoyable. The unassuming entryway opens to a warm and inviting space. Overall, this was an exceptional dining experience.

I had wanted to visit this restaurant ever since I was an adolescent, years ago, after overhearing my parents speak so highly of it. After spending the previous decade in Ontario but now having returned to Nova Scotia, my recent wedding anniversary presented a nice opportunity to finally try Charlotte Lane. My wife & I were extremely pleased with everything. The customer service was top-shelf, warm and welcoming. The drinks were superb, while the food itself was some of the best tasting and well presented dishes I've had in a long time; I say this having visited many high-end restaurants throughout Toronto recently. The gift shop out front was very intriguing and we couldn't wait to purchase some of the items there to take home following our meal. On a sidenote - special thanks to Cheryl for being such an excellent server. She was courteous, thoughtful, very insightful, and always knew the best amount of time to spend at a table while chatting quickly. My wife & I very much look forward to our next visit with this amazing restaurant.

It was a nice meal. Nothing was wrong but they tried to sit us at a table in the gift shop due to covid restrictions. They moved us, but I probably won't go back.

Unfortunately they were not serving at the time we were there and were quite booked up for early evening. Staff were very friendly and went well out of their way to accomodate us and recommended several other establishments we could try.

Our travel guide recommended this place and we were excited to taste the food. Upon arrival we found out that the renowned Swiss chef just retired. But we were confident the new chef and owner would deliver similar quality food. Seafood dishes were mainly stuffed with cheap shrimp, like the chowder and the monster size seafood fettuccine. Mediocre lobster ravioli, again monster portion, all overpriced for the quality. One hour wait time after being seated for appetizers. Service mediocre like the food, chitter chatting away right next to everyone to each other in the uncomfortably silent small dining room.
