At the time, this was the only inn/hotel in this hot spring town that had both Silver (whitish) and Gold (brownish) water hot springs. The number of common indoor and outdoor hot springs were amazing. The different temperatures of the water in each is also a plus as you can probably find one or more that was just the right temperature for you. Dinner was Japanese style with excellent taste and volume. Stayed two nights; first night was in a larger Japanese style room with its own outside private hot spring style bath; the second night was in one of the higher-end 'special' rooms with both Japanese and Western style bedroom; both were clean and roomy. I speak Japanese; not sure how the staff's English is so can't comment on how they would service non-Japanese guests; if your Japanese is good, I'd highly recommend this hotel.

Fabulous 26 hot springs for hot spring lovers. 2 nights is perfect for spending time. Dinners was different menus that was awesome. Breakfast needed more varieties and a little changes.

The food was superb. Dinner was a multi-course meal. From sashimi to shabu-shabu, and seafood! first time to try abalone 🤤 Ordered draft (生)beer🍺 to cap the night off. Breakfast was a semi-buffet. A breakfast set was prepared then the eggs (omelette and fried), drinks, tempura, yogurt, rice, bread, miso soup, drinks are all available in the buffet. There are cooks who prepare the dishes for you. The onsen are huge! There’s literally a map inside the public bath. From golden bath to the milky bath to jet bath (I guess like a jacuzzi) The view from the hotel lobby is also amazing. You can clearly see the mountains of Gunma. The staff were also very courteous and nice. There’s just some lines during dinner but I guess we chose the busier time (19:30). Overall experience is great!

Honestly Hotel Kogure is worth 5 stars for its onsen baths alone, not to mention the top-tier hospitality that the best ryokan hotel are known for. The building itself is a kind of convention hotel relic of the 80s, and seems to still exist in the past. But oh, those magnificent baths.
