🫤 We really didn't appreciate the unfriendly manner in which we were given the hurry up to leave last night by the new landlady/manager. If you're not going to give customers time to enjoy a pint after calling last orders, you might point this out when you serve them, rather than forcing them to gulp... People often mention staff, friendly, good, beer, choice, ales, Great, selection, drinks, great,

We really didn't appreciate the unfriendly manner in which we were given the hurry up to leave last night by the new landlady/manager. If you're not going to give customers time to enjoy a pint after calling last orders, you might point this out when you serve them, rather than forcing them to gulp it down while telling them you're closing 'NOW'. That's not what we were used to at this pub. Also, a smile and thank you wouldn't go amiss, if you want to retain your customers. If you're going to sour the atmosphere like this at the end of the evening, it's a bad impression to leave with and we'll take our custom elsewhere. What a sad contrast to the warm and friendly Donna, she is badly missed.

I used to go here a couple of times per week with a variety of friends to drink and play card games. The place has recently been bought out and the new owner treated us horrifically. I've never seen a manager of any establishment be so hostile towards customers anywhere. We all left after finishing that round of drinks and everyone expressed that the new owner made us feel uncomfortable. If you care for my advice, buy drinks elsewhere, there are plenty of great pubs in the area: Sadly, the Salt Cellar is no longer one of them.

Disappointing. We call in here occasionally. Seems to have recently changed management. The hosts were sat at a table near the entrance, engrossed in their mobile phones. Attempts by a couple of customers to engage them appeared to be met with frustration at being disturbed. Last orders were rung at 10.30 and time at 10.45 (no verbal announcement). A couple of people clearly found this confusing and thought the 10.45 bell was last orders and were categorically refused service. The time bell prompted the management to put down their phones and triggered a flurry of activity, cleaning tables, putting up chairs etc around customers trying to finish their drinks. To be fair, the bar staff were friendly and attentive. A once warm, friendly & relaxing experience is no more and we won't be returning 😕

Awful experience at the Salt Cellar on Sunday evening. Horrendous management. Me and my friends used to love going to the Salt Cellar most weeks where Donna was so welcoming. The new manager made some sarcastic, passive aggressive remarks that we hadn't ordered drinks right away, as we were waiting for friends to arrive. He then made other unpleasant comments. When challenging this, he wouldn't listen and said he's used to dealing with youth who will go out and do drugs. That's fair enough, but I am 29 and a working professional.... I would prefer to drink at a pub where we aren't made to feel like we're commiting a crime or judged for no valid reason.

Cold and unwelcoming. Try and have a conversation with staff, get shut down immediately. Very odd atmosphere. Edited in reply - As soon as I walked in, staff were congregated around the end of the bar and immediately started whispering amongst each other - very, very unwelcoming. When asked why, they were just sheepish and continued to be off. I tried to speak to the current manager, got one word in reply and back turned on me. Again. Not very welcoming. Indeed, you may not have been open when I left this review, as it had been left the day after. I was busy trying to enjoy my evening when I was in there. This isn't a personal vendetta against "the saltcellar", it's an honest review of my experience there. It's changed, and not for the better. Very sad. - I left before I even started working for you, so notice wasn't required. Can you show me in a contract where it was? As stated, I left beforehand so this isn't a disgruntled ex-employee. I was never an employee of yours in the first place. My review is simply that of a paying customer but you seem to want to air dirty laundry, so feel free. Just goes to show what sort of management this establishment now has 🤢 No need to worry about me coming back, I'd rather give my hard-earned money to the far superior premises over the road.

I don't do reviews but was asked by the DJ last night to do one, What a fantastic night we had with the music the service and all the people dancing and singing, it took me back to when pubs were full and good people enjoying themselves, the beer was spot on and good bar staff, The DJ had everyone dancing and singing and the pub was packed. Best night we have had in Shipley for a long time

A well restored Victorian Pub which has managed to refurbish without losing it's character. Excellent choice of beers and cheerful service. Great atmosphere and massive choice of gin.

Nice modernised pub with a good selection of cask and keg beers. Very friendly staff who are quick to serve and being your drinks to your table. The outside beer garden is nicely decorated and secluded. It's nice to see an old pub restored to a good standard.

Great traditional pub with friendly people but they use autovacs or return trays that recirculate cask beer back through the dump tray into your beer. I understand it was once normal but this is 2023 and it is unsanitary. If owners were really proud of it then put up a sign so everyone knows it's in use. Edit: the point that it works for regulars is great, but the vast majority going to pubs using autovacs do not know they are in use, even CAMRA members (of which I am one). If you believe recirculating beer from the drip tray back into a glass makes it better then please consider promoting that. It is interesting that no one does (Ossett did on their website but have since taken the page down btw). By not disclosing it people cannot make an informed choice.

This is very well run and friendly pub, nothing is too much trouble for Donna the landlady and her staff. Just been awarded Bradford Camra overall pub of the year for 2022.

Visited on Christmas eve. It was very popular. Plenty of choice of Ossett Brewery real ales and ales from the onsite brewery. The food looked nice, plenty of people were eating, so it must have been good quality. It's a lovely conversion from the old tram shed. If you park onsite, put your registration number in the machine at the bar, or risk a fine. I'll definitely visit again!

Haven't been in this pub for over 20 years when Tony was running it as "the Vic". Was very pleasantly surprised. Excellent choice of quality of ales with a superb dark one on. Pleasant beer yard out back. One small point. A small step outside the back door is easy to miss especially with a face mask on. I nearly went flying. Needs some yellow paint to highlight the hazard.

Very much passing through on a Saturday afternoon, but the Salt Cellar made a very good impression. It had a great choice of beer. It was very busy, but got served very quickly. Toilets clean. Atmosphere is that of a very friendly local pub.
