Gibson Mill

Tourist attraction Museum Hiking area

👍👍 Picturesque mill owned by the National Trust, reached through a wooded valley with stepping stones, great for woodland bathing (walking in the woods, not having a soak!). Bluebells are amazing in spring. There is a cafe in the mill for those people who need that sort of thing. (It seems plenty do) People often mention walk, cafe, mill, Mill, great, river, parking, path, walking, lovely,

Beautiful nature surroundings. Fabulous place to walk & be close to nature. Its total soul rejuvination. At the end of the long walk the picturesque mill cafe is a welcome relief. A charming quaint place with a small fascinating book shop. The cafe has a small outside seating area overlooking a picturesque bridge a great place to relax with bird song & the sound of water. The cafe staff were very professional & incredibly helpful with a great smile. The home baked cakes & coffee were delicious. Indoor seating area is provided too. A lovely place to visit with the family. Dog owners were around too & there are clean toilet facilites available. The daffodils were a pretty sight to see at this time of the year. The wild garlic & blue bells were covering the ground. I look forward to visiting again to enjoy the display of color. There are two car parks provided with a £5 charge for parking. Good walking shoes are recommended as the path near the flowing water is muddy in places. A must visit 10/10

Great place for a walk. Beautiful scenery, river, waterfalls, wildlife. If you're into photography you won't be disappointed. Access can be tricky. Good footwear needed.

Walking from Hebden Bridge, there is a nice circular walk up to Gibson Mill. Alternatively, there are 2 smallish car parks at the gates to the National Trust managed site that are accessed by small roads that can get 'blocked up' easily on approach. Gibson Mill itself, is a reached by then walking approx 1 mile via either a river side path or a dirt, vehicle track or a higher elevation path through the woods (the least walked!). Which ever option you take, we took the river side path outwards and the high elevation path back, the destination is often the historic mill. Some people go beyond the Mill to 'the crags' or further on the Blake Dean, where the path loops round a returns to the Mill. The Mill itself, acts as both a museum and cafe. The cafe offers typical, limited drinks and food. Many people seemed to take their own picnic and eat this on the grassy patches by the river. Toilets are available at both near the car park and at the Mill.

Gibson Mill and the walk through Hardcastle Crags to it, is visually stunning. We took the dog for a walk there and it was absolutely lovely, in fact I would describe it as idyllic. We've been before in the different seasons and it's always beautiful. You cant pay by card for the £5 parking fee but you can buy the ticket when you get to the mill retrospectively. We walked along the path by the river which is quite rocky but well worth the care. We stopped at the mill and went into the cafe where our experience was dampened somewhat. The girl was....sullen, yes that's the word. Whilst I don't expect someone who acts as if they have just won the lottery I do expect a reasonable attitude and yes a smile. I know this is in Hebden Bridge but the menu was very woke/vegan orientated and to be honest I couldn't find anything a normal guy (well me anyway) would want like a bacon sandwich. My wife bought a piece of flapjack and pronounced it the most disgusting she had ever had. This is not the experience we've had at the many other NT cafes we have been too and just hope it isn't a growing trend.

It's a bit away from everything meaning you don't get any signal and you won't be able to park closer than 20 minutes walk. But as a wedding venue, it's absolutely stunning. Just remember to book the weather.

Gibson Mill is a true hidden treasure! This historic water-powered cotton mill turned eco-friendly visitor center is a must-visit. The setting amidst the woodlands and next to the serene Hebden Beck is simply enchanting. It's a fantastic spot for both learning about the area's history and enjoying nature. The well-maintained trails and the informative displays inside make it an engaging experience for all ages. I highly recommend a visit to Gibson Mill!

If you've never been before, I suggest you wear sturdy shoes that support your feet and ankles. We took the short, easy terrain, walk due to me having difficulty walking. I also suggest you take your own food with you, as the food isn't cheap. £4.50 for a small but delicious and well filled sausage roll. Payment is by card only. Next to the cafe, outside, there is a toilet for the disabled. Make sure you have your 'Radar' key with you. The toilets are non flushing, a bit like the toilet in a portacabin. There is a notice telling you how to use it. Dogs are welcome. There were plenty there for me to say hello to, and they were all well behaved.

Beautiful walks and scenery. The sausage rolls were fabulous at the cafe too. Would recommend a baby carrier if you have a little one. Not very suitable for prams on the walks.

Hardcastle craggs yet another amazing place, down side carparking. Fell lucky but don't let that put you off. 2 lovely ladies will direct you to a car park and explain the easiest route back. Please go and enjoy. Sunny weather is a must. The views of the different colour and shades through the 🌳 trees. Go to the mill and enjoy a drink. Ice cream or sandwich, downside waiting the young people don't move very fast. 15 mins in a queue isn't ideal then serving 2 icecream, when you're eager to explore or you have young ones. If like my kids, they won't drink any fizzy drinks, so take some with you. Very limited and expensive. Enjoy guys, please have a great day. Best wishes from a walker. Try Victoria falls, Malham Cove, mother Shipton. Or all the walks around the great Yorkshire Dale.

Beautiful walk. Worth the visit. Both car parks are good. Path is well maintained. Not much to see though other than the mill and surrounding areas.

We usually walk through Hardcastle Cragg to get to this place. It's great to walk round, especially when the leaves on trees are turning colour st the beginning of autumn. Pictures were taken on various visits

Always a pleasant time. Nice little cafe and beautiful scenery. If you're looking to burn some good calories with a pit stop at the cafe, then this place is a great day out.

A nice little cafe nestled in the woods. I suggest walking along the river rather than the road as its much nicer, however I would bring some shoes you don't mind getting a little muddy. A great place to bring kids for a nice walk and a place to paddle for kids. It is a long way if you are disabled but there are a couple of parking spaces so you can drive. The Ice-cream from the cafe is really good and seating in and outside. I go here a lot with my 2 year old, and we really enjoy seeing squirrels and anything else we can see.

This was a great walk, although we struggled for parking space. Nice wooded walk not too steep we took the road option due to having a pushchair. There is another route along the river. The signpost days 1 mile to mill. This is inaccurate, our walk was 4 miles there and back. Nice cafe at mill serving a range of hot and cold drinks and snacks. There is also a second hand book stall. Good walk but be prepared to fight for a parking space.

A wonderful walk through a woodland of bluebells and wild garlic along the river. Alternative route back along the estate track. Not much parking so you may be lucky. Some disabled parking near the mill. Wonderful little tea room.

National Trust at it's best, 100% off-grid. Beautiful wooded valley with a great cafe and very dog friendly. There are several places to park before the walk up to the mill but disabled cars can drive straight up.

Very nice walk tea room not available but if you'd bring your own pack lunch tables available lovely waterfall and woodlands toilet available also just a few steps to get to easy to be a day trip car park charges apply but that's normal

Gibson Mill is situated in a beautiful, secret little valley - much of which is covered in bluebells in Mid May! A lovely stroll leads to a welcome ice cream in very well rub Mill cafe and well deserved laze by the stream.

Superb Mill in the countryside. Lovely streams and waterfalls with picnic areas too. They also have a lovely cafe. Be sure to tey the scone with clotted cream and jam - delicious. A great day out I must mention the pathways are not entirely suitable for buggys as they are quite stoney and there are steps on the route - something to bear in mind when coming with small children.
