We got married here yesterday. We have spent months organising. All the staff were superb and the wedding coordinator went above and beyond to make our the most magical day ever. The rooms are really spacious, clean, food was amazing. Unbelievable quality at really goodprcies. Would highly recommend

Arrived at the front door but there was nobody to let us in. When someone left the room the other had to sit in darkness. We had travelled a long way, past many other cheaper hotels to get the one with a pool and it was closed. The insanely rude young madam on your reception desk today needs to be taught some very basic manners. Will never darken your doorstep again!

Beautiful foyer with friendly reception staff. Lovely large rooms with a lovely gardened area located at the rear. Standing large shower. Very comfortable bed and bedding

After an extremely last minute cancellation by a different hotel we needed multiple rooms to host a wedding party with the Highfield being the first place with the Highfield being the available option. the staff were extremely accomodating to our situation and even arranged for extra decoration within the hotel and for some facilities to remain open later for our party to continue once we returned from the wedding venue. The rooms were huge and the locals in the pub next door were very friendly. 10/10 cannot fault the place for the price.

Room 404. Ground floor very spacious. Pool and gym access is £10 per room for guests without membership. Hotel does show its age a little bit has a charm. Can’t review breakfast or food as we had other plans and left before breakfast was served on the Sunday. Noise levels. You could hear doors and movement in corridors but didn’t hear anything from other rooms so overall very quiet. Room and bathroom were clean and comfortable and warm. Had to turn one radiator down as too warm for me.

Great overnight stay. Made full use of the pool with my girls. Breakfast was worth the money and beds were really comfy

We were visiting family and they accommodated us all, my wife and I had already booked a room and my mother and sister (who live in Bradford wanted to stay last minute), we checked in and the rooms were ready early, we went for bottomless brunch, which was fantastic (everyone was attentive, the drinks and food were great - definitely recommend the pizzas!). We then spent a couple of hours in the pool, jacuzzi and sauna, which was a great addition (especially as it's free when booking directly) and very relaxing. After a quick shower and a change, we went for drinks and dinner, the outside area is great on a warm summer evening (despite the slightly wet weather that day), everyone was friendly and it was a great atmosphere, so much so that despite living locally my mother and sister booked another night, so they could spend another couple of hours in the spa! The rooms were spacious and clean, all of the people that work there are friendly and attentive and it's great value for money. We can't wait to return!

There are some things not working, heating on water bed, hair dryer.. only 3 sockets in whole room (why?), some switches work upside-down. Leisure facilities disappointed 😞. Steam room not working (apparently over 6 months), jacuzzi not working (turns into hot tube), staff wanted to charge us for using even when it was included in package for hotel customers. On the other side there is very friendly and helpful staff in hotel reception. Specially Adam. Very nice person, very patient and helpful. He deserves better place to work.

Really last minute booking due to snow being forecast , and the second night also because of ice . Handiest for work is why I choose it. Lovely large and comfortable room and they really couldn't do enough to accommodate my situation. Meals at the adjoining pub also excellent and good value for money Thank you so much Diane

Good size room, could use some updating. Smelled of pot smoke in the entrance airlock and definitely smelled cigarette smoke outside some of the rooms. Friendly service but not much choice for cooked food except on the weekends. Generally good value but the location is showing its age.

I recently rejoined this gym (last used about 10 years ago) not sure how long I will continue to be a member. Facilities are just as poor now as they were 10 Yr ago. A positive is the staff regularly mop the floors.... The smell in the ladies changing room is unpleasant like stale, smelling drain. The steam room and jacuzzi are still not working. These were problems 10 year ago. Shows there has been no update to facilities. Children are allowed to use the gym facilities which is a Health & Safety issue. The limited gym equipment was taken up with a child PLAYING on the the machines. (Its an accident waiting to happen. Some would say Where there a blame, there's a claim. I'm confident that this would not be covered in the insurance) I use a gym to keep fit, I don’t want to feel like I'm in a nursery. The pool was full of children having swimming lessons. ( need to look at the times table to avoid the gym and pool. Looking at reviews. You only seem to get a response from the owner if a positive review are made about the hotel facilities. . The complaints are pretty much the same, outdated facilities not working. And all the same replies. A family business and are trying to update our facilities. Doesn't appear that this is happening over the years A very old and dated gym and facilities.

We chose The Highfield for our wedding and on the whole had a really good experience. Sarah was our in-house wedding coordinator who was absolutely brilliant at helping us figure out the finer details and plan a really special day. Staff were super friendly and accommodating, genuinely lovely people. Hotel was very clean and comfortable. We held our reception here and had a three course meal with drinks followed by an evening buffet with a DJ. The drinks were well mixed, pleasantly surprised to see cocktails and shots on offer as well as the usual pub classics, three course meal was lovely. The buffet was pretty good though a little smaller than expected and the burgers weren't great - all other food was fab though. The DJ did take requests which was helpful and was approachable and polite, only drawback was he played an awful lot of his own preferred drum and bass music when most of our guests are rock fans so people didn't move as much as they could have done, these are very minor quibbles but hence the 4.5 star rather than 5 stars. On the whole though a truly fantastic place to stay, would defo stay again and recommend for events and weddings and was very pleased with how smoothly everything ran. Rooms were clean and comfortable, service good, location in a nicer quieter area so feels safe but not loads to do around and about - less relevant for us but perhaps for visitors. Great value.

Enjoy staying at The Highfield. Rooms are spacious and clean and staff are all friendly and helpful. Would like if breakfast started a little earlier but it's not a big issue to us.

Good rooms well supplied with tea, coffee etc. Great staff. Stay regularly when in Bradford. Value for money. Great bar meals and good beer.

Sadly the leisure and reception customer service isn't fantastic. I called the hotel to enquire about the swimming and sauna facilities as it was my first visit. I'd asked reception if I needed to bring a towel or if they were provided. I was told they are provided but upon arrival the leisure receptionist informed me that they had no towels at present. He then went off to the main reception to try find out if there were any spare. Upon his return he said someone was looking into it and he would let me know. I asked if they know I'm waiting to which he said yes but he didn't know what to suggest I do in the meantime. I requested he call back reception or housekeeping and get an update. After doing that he was told there are no towels onsite as they are cleaned off site. I had no choice but to cancel my swimming visit. It's clear there is no system in place for checking there is adequate supply of towels, there were only 4 other customers using the facilities so there should have been enough towels in supply. There is also no communication between departments to avoid what's happened today. If there was then the main receptionist could have advised me to bring my own towel as they had none available and I wouldn't have wasted my time traveling to the venue and waiting around to find out what's going on.

Very disappointing, our room was very dirty and run down. The helpful manager/receptionist moved us to a better room. But, with an awful view of dilapidated buildings. We wouldn't stay there again.

Well I got there for the 2pm check in and there was no one at reception so had to call the number given. By 5pm I had to leave because of personal reasons so again no one in reception so after I call the reception number I was asked to hand back the room key which is a card. Would have given 5 star's if I got some of my money back. If not all. They were lovely staff though. Won't be keen on going back.

Stayed the night after a wedding party. The room was really big, clean and tidy however had no ironing board and the bed was a little hard for my liking although large, maybe king size. I noticed in my daughter's room, there was an ironing board attached to the wall. Staff member available upon check in was friendly, welcoming and explained everything that we needed to know. Bar staff in function were friendly but service was a little slow occasionally. The room and tables were well presented and buffet food was really nice. Location is nice and quiet, a short drive out of the town centre but ideal if attending a function there.

The radiators are only switched on once you have checked in, and I can testify having spent an entire night here, the room did not heat up. I went to sleep cold and I woke up cold. My father at least was able to double up on the duvet, but | had no such luck as there wasn't any additional linen or blankets in the room and reception had abandoned post by 23:30 There was 'retro night' at the pub/ club that shares its car park and patrons with the hotel, but I needn't have bought tickets as the music could be heard from our room as i tried try to sleep during this pit stop on our long journey. The rooms do not have a phone and the remote control for the TV do not work. I know this to be true as we had to switch our original room, due to the heating not working at all in there, and we had the same remote control issue there. So we went from a freezing room to a cold room in the end.

Nice spacious room. Hotel could do with a little bit of paint here and there and there was not enough car parking. That said, I would go back as I thought it was good value for money

A very pleasant hotel with very welcoming staff and service, offering good facilities with swimming pool, gym and restaurant on site. Only downside is it needs modernisation, but overall not too bad to stay in.

NO WiFi, no inner door lock, unsafe for a lady on her own. No hand soap, no lid on toilet and a shower that had no water pressure except for a few drops.

My review is only to do with the gym side. I take my Granddaughter to swimming lessons. Whilst the pool and changing areas are perfectly adequate and clean I get the feeling it's all a bit tired. I don't think, personally, that the toned down lighting helps but that might be ok for other people so it's not too much of a criticism. Overall a fairly pleasant experience.

Visited the leisure facilities today, won’t be returning any time soon. Was told by staff jacuzzi not working after sitting in it for 10mins waiting for it to start after thinking it timed out. A member of the leisure facilities said it hasn’t work for a very long time. Looking more closely at the water it was grim floating dead skin particles, the jacuzzi needs covering or emptying as it’s grim. Steam room not working, now looking back at reviews and website looks like it’s not worked for a very long time. The pool was was really cold, best bit of the visit was the Sauna seems like it was the only thing that was clean and in working order. The whole place needs a bit of TLC and a good clean.

The rooms are huge and the staff are friendly and helpful, but the hotel needs a updating. As soon as we got to the front door there was an overwhelming smell of marijuana, which continued into the reception, upstairs in the halls. It says no smoking but there were cigarette butts on the carpet in the hallway.

Stayed for two nights as I was having some major work done on my property, I have to say the rooms are very clean, very spacious, and the staff are very friendly and pleasant!! For me it was the facilities onsite (swimming pool-hot tub-sauna-steam room) they were absolutely fantastic and again the staff brilliant!! Also this place has a bar and grill restaurant however I do need to revisit to try the food as I didn’t get chance!! I Would deffo stay here again without a doubt and I’m also going to be joining as a member to the leisure club soon. Thanks Highfield! Dale

Absolutely loved this place! The staff were extremely friendly and accommodating and the rooms were larger than most and very reasonably priced.

stayed there for 1 night. never again!! tried changing me extra for a duvet they failed to provide. mould on the walls, mice in the floor boards. breakfast was undercooked and found a hair in my beans. worst experience i’ve ever had in my life. tried changing us extra to use the pool (which is the size of a car). not worth wasting your money there

Leisure Facilities? The swimming pool and jacuzzi don't look like they have been updated since 1970. The whole place is dated. The staff and management aren't particularly bothered if guests complain. It's either like it or lump it. My advice if you considering this hotel then don't bother and choose somewhere else.

One of the nicest places we have stayed, we stayed for 2 nights in room 410. Comfortable big room. Staff are welcoming , easy parking. Quiet atmosphere which we liked. Will definitely book again . Thank you

Beautiful stay. Reception area is big enough. Staff is helpful and kind. Swimming Pool is clean and tidy. Jacuzzi is nice. Steam room was Out of service. Gym is nice but small.

  • 2/5 Shoaib 1 year ago on Google
Very outdated. No air con in rooms. Beds were squealing like a pig. Just radiators which are practically useless when the temp is around 23c. Charge £5 each to use the pool. The jacuzzi was boiling hot at 41c which had made by legs flare up....

We stayed the night before our flight from Leeds Bradford to Girona as the hotel is only about 10 mins from the airport. We couldn't have made a better choice! The young chap on reception was really friendly, chatty and helpful - he was behind the bar in the pub later, and was just the same in that role, it's so nice to come across people in the hospitality business being so......well, hospitable, because a lot aren't in our experience! Well done on that score. Our room was huge - yes, perhaps the hotel side of the place could do with some refreshment, but at around half the price of the Premier Inn just up the road, who's complaining? Not us, that's for sure - the room was immaculate, and the bed was ultra comfy too. We ate in the pub - I had a fantastic Smokehouse burger (highly recommended!), Angela had a lovely steak and ale pie. Drinks were reasonably priced, with an excellent selection of beers and gins - and, again, a well-done to the bar staff for being so friendly. We'd recommend the Highfield to anyone - a proper pub, a decent hotel and with proper Yorkshire hospitality by the bucketload!

Probably one of the nicest places we have stayed. Comfortable room. Easy parking. Lovely staff and nice Thai restaurant. Bus stop outside for easy travel to Durham. Definitely will return. Breakfast was basic but good.

I had the after party for my daughter's Baptism here. It was fabulous. Booking and communication prior to the event was excellent. The room was really nicely decorated with flowers and lights. The food we ordered was delicious and plentiful. The staff were friendly and helpful.

Had a birthday bash here last night. Start to finish it was brilliant. Superbly dressed function room, terrific buffet, the bar and drinks faultless. Finally the staff....just a credit to The Highfield, what a fantastic team.
