This restaurant has been around since 1971 and is conveniently located in the back of level 5 of the Hilton Hotel, formerly the Mandarin Oriental. The restaurant is very popular, and like with all popular restaurants in Singapore, you should book a table in advance. We stopped by for an early dinner, without a reservation, and just managed to squeeze in because we came so early. The staff is helpful and friendly, and very professional. The menu is extensive, but we focused on their specials. We found the food good, but were expecting more from such a hyped place. The steamed chicken didn’t taste so much. The lobster laksa was good but didn’t reach the same level as others we have tasted. The spicy egg chicken wings were probably our favorite dish. The beers on tap and on bottle were not to our liking at all. In addition, if you sit in the back, bring a sweater - it was freezing. We asked the staff to change the setting, which they immediately tried, but it didn’t help. Several guests refused to sit in that particular area. We also tried a couple of cocktails and they were fine. The prices are moderate compared to the average in Singapore. In summary, we will not come back. Singapore has so much good food to offer and in comparison with other, similar places, we would opt for the competition.

Good place, good food! I was skeptical about the chicken rice but they did an excellent job, distinguished themselves from the common chicken rice around Singapore and I will say it's a must try for experience! Got caught in the water trap; they ask if I want sparkling or still water and I went for still. Next time I'll be reminded to ask for iced water. Good experience overall!

Took my mom here for her birthday today. We ordered chicken rice and seafood hokkien mee. Food were delicious and great service. Definitely will come back to try other dishes.

Great food, attentive service and great vibes in a nutshell. Had the salted egg chicken wings and otah for starters. Both of them had a hint of spiciness but nothing unmanageable. Followed up with the signature chicken rice. It’s good to be sure, but the breast meat felt a tad dry. Not noticeable if you dip it in the sauces. Also think that the chilli and ginger sauce is really good. Finished off with the coconut ice cream. It’s not too sweet and has a strong coconut fragrance. Loved that they served it in a coconut so you can scrape some coconut meat off as part of the dessert.

The queue time on holidays is about 15 to 20 minutes. The dining environment is very comfortable. We ordered two different meals. The chicken rice was delicious. The lobster Laksa soup was a bit too thick, which I personally didn't like very much. There isn’t as much lobster meat as what’s on the menu, just a bit less.

Food: just overpriced chicken rice! You can get better ones at hawker Center Service: Service is the worse that I have ever seen in Singapore. Not friendly, not polite, unapologetic when there’s insects on my sauce and don’t even say a sorry! The staff don’t make you feel welcome. :

Before visiting Chatterbox, I heard of their famous chicken rice and lobster laksa. I received $80 dining voucher from Mandarin Orchard for my recent staycation, and thus my hubby and I decided to dine here for dinner. We came here at 9:30pm on 23 Mar 2021 and were the only customers during our visit, hence the place is really quiet. The staff provided great service and made our dining experience enjoyable. They also constantly came over to refill drinking water for us. You must try the chicken rice and lobster laksa! Normally the chicken rice costs $28++ and lobster laksa costs $38++. It is expensive but really tastes very very good. The standard is there We also tried the salted egg chicken wings. I would recommend Chatterbox if you like to try quality local food in a comfortable environment.

Don't understand the hype and all the 5 star reviews. This place is woefully average and ridiculously overpriced. The chicken rice at my nearest coffeeshop is probably on par with the standard of the chicken rice here. Ordered the Mandarin Chicken Rice (Whole Chicken), Ngoh Hiang, Oyster Omelette & Seasonal Vegetables, all pictured. I would have given this place 2 stars if not for the fact that their Oyster Omelette is one of the best I have ever eaten in my life. Creamy egg paired with fatty oysters and that chili that it was swimming in was utter perfection. Yet it is definitely not $18 perfect. Service here was an odd experience. On one hand, the host was obliging (though he was flustered from the walk-ins and reservations) and found us a seat though we had no reservations. But the waiter spilled champagne on my friend's phone and there was recourse other than an apology and extra napkins. Quite weird for a place that charges $16 for 6 sticks of satay. Don't come here, or do. It's your money, but I already wasted mine.

The food and service was great! However, we arrived around 8:30 pm asking if we can walk in. The receptionist told us they are fully booked tonight. I asked if you can do anything for us. She said we may not have table until 9pm. Then I told her we do not mind have a drink at bar and wait until 9pm. Then she said if you do not mind, you can have dinner at our bar. We sat from 8:30pm to 10:10pm, the half of the restaurant is empty. First, I called twice yesterday and today, no one answer the line. I tried booking in Chop yesterday and today, no available booking. That is why we decided to walk in. So I suggest do not come to this restaurant if you can not book 3 days in advanced. I saw so many guests tonight that did not make the bookings, the reception make us side around bar even when half of restaurant is empty. We are lower class customer not worthy of sitting ta their table. I asked the waiter for reason, I was told the receptionist is not flexible. So beware, this restaurant is not friendly for people when can not make booking 3 days in advance. Even you walk-in, she will turn you away if you do not try hard enough to ask.

Their signature chicken rice is great quality here to enjoy in comfortable atmosphere. Service is excellent and attentive. We visited a couple of times to try different dishes (chicken rice, lobster laksa, beef and chicken satay skewers, crispy salted eggs chicken wings). We had a starter and a main each then shared dessert. It was plenty of food and satisfying! Booking a few days in advance is highly recommended, and it's worth it. They do accommodate for walk-ins too when they can.

In full disclaimer: we had it to-go because the restaurant was full. As far as what we ordered, we went with the menu’s recommendation. First the chicken rice, the to-go presentation was great. The dish itself wasn’t bad. I’m sure it would’ve been better if eaten in the restaurant. Secondly, the huge disappointment: beef hor fun. I love this dish. But when we opened it in our hotel room, the portion was tiny (as you can see in the photo). The sauce (in separate container) was darker than what I was expecting and too sweet for my taste. Of course this could be personal preference. Of course the portion might be bigger in the restaurant. Regardless though, for SGD$25, I was certainly expecting more.

This restaurant is renowned for its delectable laksa and chicken rice, both of which are considered among the best in the city. During my recent lunchtime visit, I had the pleasure of sampling these culinary masterpieces. The laksa, generously adorned with succulent lobster pieces, boasted a creamy broth that was well-balanced in flavor. However, the noodles were slightly overcooked, resulting in a softer texture than I prefer. The chicken rice, on the other hand, lived up to my expectations, showcasing tender, juicy chicken accompanied by perfectly cooked, fluffy rice. While the restaurant is associated with Hilton, they maintain their independence and do not honor Hilton membership discounts. Despite this, the overall dining experience was positive, though the lunchtime prices were a bit on the higher end.

There are many dishes that are very much representative of Singapore, and one of the most iconic of them is, of course, chicken rice. Loosely referred to as Singapore's national dish, the ubiquitous Hainanese chicken rice requires a meticulous preparation process. To make this classic chicken rice dish, the chicken is first scalded until cooked through before it is dipped in ice-cold water to keep the meat soft and tender. Served with chicken broth, ginger sauce, black soy sauce, and chilli, the highlight is the rice that has been cooked with the chicken's oils. The end-product may look deceptively simple, but it is very delicious. I went there and had a nice dinner! Recommend!

Slightly Overrated. I came in already expecting a premium for a restaurant serving Singaporean cuisine that is elevated and although I did enjoy the food I felt a bit let down and this is why. The good.. ambiance, service, and premium ingredients. The bad.. flavours are probably toned down and catered tourists which is good for those who are not adventurous enough to venture to the more authentic hawker stalls. Chicken rice slightly overpriced albeit having good quality chicken and decent serving size, its just too dry and flavourless (rice is very good though). Laksa was a huge let down.. the spice is none existent and the lobster isn’t presented well and is lost in the broth. I do love their char kway teow and hokkien mee! Hokkien mee had generous servings of seafood including a few pieces of yummy scallops! The sauce is creamy and eggy at the same time just the way I like it! Char Kway Teow was packed with flavourful and a fantastic char on the noodles. Will definitely come back for the noodles! That being said Chatterbox is still a great place to bring foreign guests and is a great intro to Singaporean cuisine.. just make sure you have the budget of around $30 per dish.

I like the atmosphere of the newly renovated restaurant. Although the price point is still high for local dishes, but the taste is really good. What I would recommend: 1. Lobster laksa - the gravy is really fragrant, thick and rich. I was told it was boiled with coconut water. 2. Chicken rice 3. Satay The service is also also good, especially from the manager June. After this visit, I changed my rating from two years ago from 3-star to 4-star. #2nd review (7 months later)# After learning about two new dishes, I immediately came to try them. 1. Curry fish head - delicious and I would recommend the dish. 2. Sweet and sour pork in yam ring - although the pork is slightly too sour, it pairs nicely with the yam ring.

Poor service and experience. Good food doesn't make up for the distress you cause, Chatterbox. THE INACCURATE MENU Chatterbox, it doesn't take much to make a huge impact on customer experience where your menus are concerned. Let your customers know what's not available. This is a very basic aspect for restaurants. Put a note in your menu that the Set Menus are not available on weekends. And also that your "half chicken" and "full chicken" selections are not available until 2023. There is nothing more disappointing than spending time poring over the menu to select what you want, to be told it is not available, and until 2023! THE LACKLUSTRE SERVICE We were shocked by the service. Before the renovation, Chatterbox service was never this bad. First, service was very patchy. while there were many servers around, it took a while to get their attention. We sat at our table for a while without a menu or a QR code to scan for the menu. This was at 2:20pm, mind you. Second, servers didn't seem to know what to do with the food they are serving. They came with chicken rice trays and didn't know how to place it on the table without our help to shift the cutlery around. Third, and the MOST ANNOYING, a server refused to add an adjoining table to ours despite our table being too small for the amount of food we ordered. She claimed there were other customers later who needed the bigger table, which was not true as the group that came was a group of two. Sigh. How do you expect us to eat like that with plates half hovering over the floor? So rude. It was almost as though the restaurant/ server was punishing us for ordering too much. What is the message you want to send, Chatterbox? Don't you want to increase spend per head? COMPLACENCY For that, Chatterbox, an industry veteran, one-star is in excess for you. You're resting on your laurels and have become complacent. Shame on you for the disservice you're doing to Singapore's F&B and hospitality industry. 😓😓

Local food at hotel setting. Food is certainly nice, and you decide if you would want to pay for the ambience and services. We ordered Hainanese Chicken Rice, Nasi Goreng, Fried Hokkien prawn noodles, satay, rojak, Otar, etc.about $50/pax for 9 items we ordered. For the quality of food & price, I would give it a 4-star

Would you pay $25 for chicken rice? Not just paying for dish, but also the atmosphere. The rice was good and the chicken smooth and tender. All three dips went well with the meat. I loved the sour plum drink too which was thirst quenching. What I hope will improve is the service. I went around opening time and they didn’t seem very prepared.

Ordered the Haianese Chicken Rice set lunch meal on a weekday. We made a reservation online and saw the place was quite packed. Thoroughly enjoyed our meal, very well presented and tasted really good. The coconut ice cream dessert - heavenly! It did not disappoint in giving our foreign guest a wonderful experience. There was a bit of a wait for the main course. The staff were friendly and checks up on us regularly. Will definitely come back here.

Located at L5 of Hilton Hotel on Orchard Road , opposite to Courts, has been around a long time serving one of the finest chicken rice and other local delights ! Can try walking in but will face a long queue. If you want the section with a greener view at the end patio , need to book and go earlier ! They have a big waiting area, which perhaps could have accommodated a few more tables to cut down waiting time, but perhaps more of a image and branding strategy. The chicken rice set is clean and well Presented and you can request no-skin breast pieces . The seafood Horfun is average , May appear a bit starchy ! The fish Otah is excellent , though takes a while to prepare and the main course usually arrives before the starter thereof ! The inside decor is classy with a nice ambiance . The service staff is good ! Overall a great experience and will make you come back for more !

Huge fan of this place! The service is great, staff are friendly and the food is presented very nicely. The long bean dish was surprisingly good - had a nice zing, the texture and flavors were on point - would go back for this one! And ofc the chicken and rice set is a 10/10.

Signature Chicken Rice in glitzy surrounds, it was my last night in Singapore and they went out of their way to seat me in a packed restaurant. I sat at the “solo” experience table (brilliant idea), and meet fascinating people while I dined on the Chicken Rice set, worthy of its acclaim. A memorable experience.

[June 2023] First time back here after their massive renovation last year. The space has been beautifully transformed from their previously dated interior. For its classy ambience, attentive service, quality and well-presented food, we feel that the prices are beyond justified. The dishes that we tried are on par with those from the popular hawker stalls. Special shoutout to Leslie for being so welcoming throughout our meal 😊 Perfect place to host foreign friends who prefer a more comfortable environment in humid Singapore. Reservations recommended. 🅿️ Complimentary parking is available for meals above $100. (Updated review from visit in Nov 2023)

Nothing special here. I’m a bit disappointed on the appetizer, it’s heavy influence by Thai dish but, It’s doesn’t complement the main dish at all. Good ice cream.

Their signature chicken rice is delicious! Rice was not oily at all and deliciously fragrant. Their chicken meat was tender too! Lobster laksa was rich and creamy but would have been much more authentic and tastier with a bit of spice. Nasi goreng is also worth a try! Can make do without the otah, nothing special for the price.

I haven't been for many years but glad we came back to visit. A bit harder to find by the lifts (we came in via the Hilton) but it was a nice entry to the restaurant from this side. We managed to grab an early table for lunch on the weekend - maybe one of the few larger tables not reserved and out next to the bar. Service and food were good - the desserts suprisingly so. Recommended if you're in the area and want a comfortable sit down lunch. I wouldn't compare the food with the hawker versions for the mains - every visitor to Singapore should try these!

Chicken rice was highly raved but really disappointed. The $5 set I got at Food Republic tasted equally if not better. While I liked the tender meat at Chatterbox. the sauce didn’t felt that magical or amazing. Especially for the price paid - $27++ The soup tasted slightly MSG like (no indication on their menu it’s chicken soup or what, just salty soup with shredded cabbage and a really small round tofu). The rice was the utter disappointment. For an established restaurant priding itself on the chicken rice, they actually skimped on the quality of it. Broken rice grains probably meant a subpar quality of rice used. Also the rice felt uncooked in some areas. Please see comparison to the one I ate at FR today which costed $5, but came in whole fluffy grains. Presentation wise was on point. Moving on to the lobster laksa, we enjoyed that dish a lot. Couldn’t find the lobster body meat but ok. The gravy was really nice, noodles were Q. Would recommend this dish if you want to use your dining credits, not so sure about paying $40+ for this since the lobster is quite small and you could probably get a much decent sized lobster elsewhere. Probably if you really want a good bowl of laksa this is the place to go. Service staff hits and misses everywhere but thoughtful service by a staff by the name Raymond.

Indulgence once in awhile as they having 1:1 promotion for chicken rice. A very fantastic set of chicken rice. You are allowed to choose the parts you desire, for eg thigh, breast... They no longer serve free portion of rice (it's $3 per bowl). Conclusion, it was delicious no doubt but not something I'll spend $27++ on :) will be back the next time they run a promotion. Note: the bean sprouts were ordered separately. $9++ and it was delicious!

Left my number for them to call me once they had a table (2.30pm according to them) but they never did. I ended up ordering their chicken rice via room service and paying a premium. Delivered before 2.30pm, but $41 instead of $30+. The chicken rice is very mediocre. Go to Bugis and have your chicken rice at Albert Centre. Only a tenth of the price, you can get 10 portions if it suits you. Update: They called me back the next day to apologise and to offer a reservation slot.

We came here for lunch. The last time I ate here was more than 10 years ago. We ordered chicken rice, lobster laksa, fried kwey teow, and satay. All the food was delicious. Except maybe the fried kwey teow is a little oily. But it was still very tasty. Especially the chicken satay. The waitress was very friendly and very attentive to our needs. The place was nicely decorated and seats were very comfortable. Though a little pricey, I will be back again just for the nice food and atmosphere.

Service is superb from all the service staff especially Ms Karen. The renovated place looks so cosy and homely! Food is served super fast as though we are ordering fast food😊. Chicken rice is delicious like before though I find the chilli lacks ‘power’. I am rather amazed by the signature coconut ice cream which is served in a small coconut. Overall the dining experience is good, will surely come back again!

If ypu think of Laksa in a hotel, then you should come here. Yes, it's expensive but it's consistent lemak 'rich' taste will blow your mind. Try their Rojak and topped with the coconut ice cream if they have. You'll never regret with just these choices. Come and give yourself a treat but do remember to exercise after this delightful indulgence!

Booking for an appointment was fuss-free (chope). I was there with a couple of colleagues last Dec. I thought the reception was rather efficient as we were promptly seated upon arrival. We all opted for the chicken rice set meal and I thought each dish was delectable… my mouth is watering just thinking back on it. the portion of chicken was really generous, which I wasn’t expecting at all. All the servers we encountered were warm and friendly - special shoutout to Elex for the hospitality shown. Will be back to try the other dishes. The experience certainly justified the cost.

Food: ordered salmon carbonara, nasi goreng, ngoh hiang, popular chicken rice for dinner which tasted yummy! portion was generous for 1 pax to be really full! Price: had 50% as we were stay in guests; but it’s standard hotel food kinda price if there wasn’t a discount. Ambience: Pretty nice for a family dinner , quiet and spacious restaurant Service: staff were friendly and quick in delivering our food etc Also had their free hotel breakfast of dry wanton mee, porridge and america breakfast set that comes with croissant and another pastry. good taste overall.

Went to chatterbox because I hadn’t tried it even though their chicken rice is very famous but the chicken rice was a let down, the chicken wasn’t that tender and Bong Tong Kee does a way better job than they do. That said , the rest of the dishes were sedap, the otah ,prawns and laksa were delicious. The squid had a really delectable sambal sauce which I feel would be really well suited for sambal grilled stingray. Overall a rather pleasant dining experience.

Recommended by a friend as his all-time favourite chicken rice in Singapore, I knew I had to try it for myself. The presentation is lovely, portion size generous, chicken moist, although could do with a touch more flavour. All in all a solid chicken rice. But at $27 a pop...not quite worth the price-tag.

The food are amazing, the place is cozy, staff are friendly and very helpful. My top choice beside the chicken rice, is the rojak, it's so delicious, i think the best rojak i ever ate. Then the nasi goreng kampong, it's very fragrance. Lobster laksa is ok, not a big fan with the rice noodles they serve with it, too soft. Overall have amazing dinner & will comeback again if visit Singapore. Highly recommend to anyone like peranakan food.

I’ve not had the chicken rice in chatterbox in over a decade and wanted to come back to give it a try to see if the most expensive and iconic chicken rice is still as good. It was definitely good 👍🏻 although not somewhere you can eat everyday, however it is definitely a good representation of what good chicken rice is to people visiting Singapore for the first time and willing to pamper yourself a little bit! I love the atmosphere of the place too! It’s somewhere you can bring someone on a nice casual date too! Will be back to try the lobster laksa!

Was there with my colleagues for lunch. Great ambience, amazing staff and flavourful dishes. Have tried their signature Chicken Rice - it was tasty and the chicken was tender without being oily. The chilli that complemented the dish packs a punch and made the overall meal a memorable one. We ordered a few side dishes, namely the Assam Barramundi, Grilled Satay and Rojak. Was most impressed with the Assam Barramundi! Spices were balanced without being overly sour like in most restaurants I have tried. The Grilled Satay was tender and easy on the palatte. Rojak was tangy and generous too! Last of all, we each had a Signature Coconut Ice Cream. It was so good!!! A pity I did not manage to get a picture of it as we were dying to dig into the dessert 🤭 Overall it was a good experience for us. Highly recommended!!

Despite famous for their Mandarin Chicken Rice set, we find their Seafood Hokkien Mee is actually the best Hokkien Mee islandwide. Lots of ingredients such as prawns, pork, squid, and rich gravy matches it as great value. Too bad we do not have space for anything else such as Bak Kut Teh and Lobster Laksa.

My friend loved coming to this place every single time she visits Singapore. Although it’s my first visit, I had some high expectation on this place. We ordered their famous hainanese chicken rice, chili prawn with fried mantou, Laksa, oh Chien and mochi with peanuts. The chicken was tender but the chicken rice chili was meh. The rice was great though. As for the rest, I find them ok. My favorite was the mochi. It was so soft that it melts in your mouth. Lastly, their service. It was so poor. We had to call for our bill close to 4 times. And it was the same for any request. I got tired waiting for them that I felt it will be easier if I got the things myself. Pretty disorganized system.

Singapore’s top-branded chicken rice has been elevated to an aesthetically pleasing restaurant from its drab coffee house origins. What’s good was that Singapore’s most famous national dish has lost none of its drooling delight: the chicken was just as tender, moist, smooth and tasty, while the gently oiled rice was just as grainy, and fragrant. What’s not so good was that prices though three to four times higher than hawker centers’, the service level was not three times better. The mechanically driven staff was rushed, disengaged, and slow to respond: shortcomings easily addressed by more observant and proactive management, especially for a five-star hotel. All said the Chatterbox chicken rice is a delicious slice of Singapore’s culture that would appeal to visitors and locals alike.
