It's like a ghost town, not a friendly welcoming place. I was early for the show, couldn't find any where to sit while waiting for it to start. Both the floors has huge empty space but no seats, such a waste of space, bad planning, all they had was 2 standing tables. I couldn't check out the shops because most are closed. Coming from real estate background this place is not well plan, no good flow/energy. In the cinema, the seats are comfortable but sadly there were only 3 pax watching. Lots can be done for improvement.

So I went to Cathay to get Liho tea and then went up to sit in Cathay mall as my daughter also came back from school and it was raining outside. We sat at the benches on level 2 to drink but the security guard came to tell us that we couldn't eat and drink in the mall. He said it really unwelcoming and also said that there was sign on the door saying that no food and drinks were allowed but when we went down on the way out we look at on the sign, but there was no sign at all. I feel that the security guard was very rude and unfriendly. I though if the place always with strangers security try to show bad reaction with people then no one want to come to this place.

Sad to hear that this mall is on Enbloc. The Cathay is my haunt to escape from the heat and get some privacy, chilling outside the cinema and getting some work done. Occasionally I’ll get my matcha fix at Kooks

Review is for The Cathay Gallery. Not a big area and is free entry. Do pop by while waiting for movie to start. I bet the elders will definitely recall the fond memories as there are old movie poster and old cinema chairs for display. Many vintage camera for viewing too.

The mall has seen better days and is due to close for redevelopment in August 2023. Majority of tenants have closed/ are closing and mall is empty save for a few shops on the lower floors. The main attraction these days is The Projector indie cinema, operating one floor of the former Cathay cinemas on the 5th and 6th floors. They are due to end their tenancy in July 2023

Cathay spent 100 million dollars in the redevelopment which finished in 2006. But they cut off access to the Mt Sophia, Sophia Road, Mt Emily and Adis Road residents - 2,000 customers. There used to be a convenient access door which led to a elevator that you could take to the movie theatre and to ground level Orchard Road. Cathay literally block its own customers from entering its building. It instead provided a steep and dark staircase for the Mt Sophia residents. No wonder Cathay failed.

There is a stupid policy indicating no photos allowed except by official write-in. This is ridiculous if your mall has art displays but disallowed shoppers to take photos even if for personal view? I was told by the security guard to delete my photos and said no photos allowed in the mall. That is ridiculous and has no logical sense. Then what if there are shoppers who take welfies together? So will your mall policy be for them to delete and write in request first too? That is one way to turn away potential shoppers. I walked in for 1 min and I was out the next min because of such stupid policies. It is one way to show how unwelcoming your mall is. I don't think i will ever shop at the Cathay anymore. Great job on management. I am definitely waiting for your closing down.

I was here on 13 November 520pm, happily eating my food outside a shop while waiting for my partner to finish browsing when a security guard literally told me no eating in the mall??? um ok i have never been in a mall where i couldn’t consume food OUTSIDE SHOPS. Never returning back to this godforsaken mall unless i had no choice lol.

Clean and great aircon. Hope they will have an anchor tenant who brings in the crowds soon. Movie theatre has the best seats and airvon 👍👍👍👍 clean toilets but only level 5 cinema box office toilets provide soap.

The cinema on the top floor is one of the popular movie watching places as it is relatively new. At the basement and ground floor, there is a number of cafes and food establishments. You might find some interest retail stores that carry wares not commonly seen in other larger shopping malls. Compare to other malls, it is considerably smaller in scale but do drop by to check out the shops if you in the area.

In my opinion, the best place for a movie- operated by Cathay. Nice eateries and lil shops to chill out and spend some time with friends during free time. Mall still needs to attract a better crowd though.

Cinema hall is beautifully designed hold classic article billing with very impressive interiors and several screens for you to catch your best movie i recently went there for seeing no time to die the new bond film and i thoroughly enjoyed it. $8'50for a popcorn is to0 expensive.... i still got it and had it during the movie

Hi I would like to share some feedback about my bad experience in the Cathay mall.I was using the level 1 toilet and the cleaner short auntie with white polo tee and pony tail ,knock the door so loudly and said “aiyaaa” and mumbled in chinese end up she just because she wanted to change the toilet paper not only that.. she changed the toilet paper angrily and banging things loudly (still mumbling btw) and threw the leftover tissue roll infront of me aggressively.. 1st of all what’s with your cleaner’s attitude? I left the toilet clean,I don’t know why she so angry. 2nd if there are people still using the toilet cubicle don’t rush them and knock so loud just because she wanted to top up toilet roll faster. 3rd this is not the first time she’s being rude to me but I let it pass. She’s walking right in the middle of the hall way as if the mall is hers until I hit the wall. I don’t usually write bad feedback but this is unacceptable and very disappointing. Hope cathay management will do something about this.Thank you.

nothing much to see here. there's overjoyed at b1 (art supplies shop) and some food places at level 1 but besides that there isnt very much here which is interesting ahaha :'-)

An average mall that's a bit out of the way to visit unless you're going to watch a movie at its anchor cinemas. Not your usual variety of retail stores.

Once a popular mall due to the cinemas on the top floor, but now quite dead with the cinemas closed. Due to close soon for refurbishment. Handful of restaurants and beauty salons etc left, plus a darts bar and sim golf.

  • 3/5 Roger S. 1 year ago on Google
I went there after they announced the closing of this iconic cinema. It’s a nice mall that has failed to attract enough visitors. They really should have lowered the parking to $1 per hour or some really creative cheap parking scheme (like free 2 hour parking) to get people to go there to increase traffic. Better than closing down. But then, I may not know all the issues.

Got a lovely amazing Art shop at basement called 'Overjoyed'. Selling good collections of art material, staff are extremely friendly and helpful. Spend a lot of time there looling through all their different material. Eye opening and understands that they also conduct art lesson for anyone willing to learn how to paint or for a project of art. Prices are reasonable and they do have a very large collection.

Ok theater. The main screening all is very large but and seats are comfy but the food station needs a lot of improvement. It takes so long to get your items and if you are going for a busy show the line can be really long. Nice thing is that they serve alcohol & the prices are actually pretty cheap. The food we got was descent quality for the price and the staff was very helpful/friendly. Overall a cool place just wish the concession stand was more efficient.

Its a relatively quiet mall but offers quite a good variety of food places (from restaurants to fast food). However, its not the best place to do major shopping, its more of a place to hang out with friends/family. Of course, theres also the cinema

I like that the mall has a cinema, arcade and a pool and billard centre, as well as cool food and beverage choices which would attract youngsters, which includes some cafes as well. There are also some shops offering beauty and hair services, as well as retail. The Cathay is conveniently located near Dhoby Ghaut MRT station and is not too crowded even on weekends. Around 30% to 35% of the shops are unoccupied at the moment. Hope there are more retailers here in future.

One of the more historic places in Singapore that has been refurbished. The ice cream man stationed outside Cathay on a hot day is a welcomed sight. Within Cathay, the mix of shops are such that you like it or you may not. I happen to like Salzeria and the stationery shop is interesting. Otherwise, Starbucks is a nice place to chill while 7-11 is there in case.

The Cathay is located in Dhoby Ghaut District. It is a mixed-use 17-storey cinema, shopping mall and apartment building located at Handy Road and Mount Sophia in the Museum Planning Area of Singapore. More than just movies, The Cathay is a youth-oriented shopping mall located in Handy Road that boasts a myriad of retail, dining and entertainment options.

Quieter mall that is undergoing change to more of a services, food, and activity space. Now pool tables, bubble tea, and other popular shops joining the movie theater and salon services shops. The front of the building is rescued from the old movie theater marquee era in the 1930s

  • 3/5 Chestnut B. 4 years ago on Google
It's a great place for movies, loving their comfortable and spacious seats. But it's a pity they didn't do well when it comes to managing a mall.

Lodge a complaint on 4 jan about dirty chair which causes rashes. Didn’t even bother to reply. It has almost been half a year. Joke management. I would not patronise the cinema again.

  • 4/5 Dex G. 4 years ago on Google
Lots of tenants have left the place on the upper levels. No longer the hip place that I remembered a few years back. Perhaps it is due to more cinemas being built in the neighbourhoods thus Cathay having less patrons? Still, a well maintained mall, with a few decent f&b outlets. If you are an art enthusiast then good news! Overjoyed have recently moved in. Perhaps to cater to the nearby art school.
