I don’t agree with the reviewers who say the museum is almost empty. You have to remember that N Macedonia is a small country. I found what they had was absolutely magnificent. Especially their Neolithic and Early Bronze Age exhibit. Some of which I have never seen the like anywhere in the world. It’s also very high tech and modern, using dark rooms and LED spots on the exhibit cases. One thing I must say though, the woman working behind the ticket counter was shockingly rude. Image us shaming the museum and her country. She should be fired and replaced. A museum caretaker should be a job of joy.

Not worth €2.5 to be honest. Unless you are particularly interested in unexcavated objects. No special history. Just excavations from different parts of the country. If you have abundant money and want to donate for a quick look, it's pretty inside. But just pretty at one glance as my photo shows. No more. I'm especially interested in archaeology, but this one is not worth it.

The entrance is 150, almost 2.5 euros, the museum is nice but not as big as it looks from outside. Actually is just two small floors, not so much to see. They are renovating some sections because the building is huge, cannot be just that. Very old stuff though. Was good but I expected more.

Big disappointing and waste of time. I've never seen like this museum. It's just big building from the outside. But, the inside is too small and there're just couples of replica sculptures, photos, tools, vases and meaningless rocks and empty rooms. No special history. No air conditioner. It should be free. Sorry..

The museum is really worth visiting. Tickets are affordable, the museum interior and exhibitions are worth seeing. The only minus is the staff, which is not very positive towards tourists.

Right in the heart of the city! Nice and compact museum showing archeological findings from Macedonia. The findings start from 50.000 BC to late Ottoman Era. You will be satisfied with lighting of displays.

I was incredibly disappointed by this museum. They actually have really cool artifacts, but seem to have dropped the ball on everything except acquisition. We found MULTIPLE things MISLABELED! (One pictured, Spur Asterisks clearly labeled as Sword Handle, and vice versa) which was very shocking. There were also dozens of artifacts lacking labels entirely! Many displayed without numbers, and many numbers listed but not displayed. Many objects removed for conservation. The biggest problem was a lack of information - it was just a list of things and what period they were from, no further information on what anything was used for or by whom. There were a 3 signs that looked like they maybe gave a bit more context, but where only in Cyrillic Macedonian (and brail, which is cool!). There was a large display of what looked like a mosaic floor/marble columns, but not a single sign or plaque with information! It also looked like there was some sort of projection display set up on either end of the room, but neither were running. Just an super obnoxious loud beeping sound throughout 🤣 We were only allowed to see the one display as the stairs to the upstairs were roped off, and we were yelled at when we tried to see the exhibit downstairs (I glimpsed some mannequins in traditional clothing and what looked like a wagon wheel set up as a display, but two guys who had just been sitting on their phone around the corner run up and yelled at us when we went to walk down the stairs. An entirely bizarre "Archeological Museum" experience that I cannot recommend. Really such a shame since there is such a fascinating area with incredible history, a real missed opportunity.

The artifacts in the museum are ideal for understanding the archaeological history of Macedonian lands. When you finish the tour, you can see how the people have developed since the early ages, understand their lives, and it's a mind opener. I wish we could have bought an English museum book or at least a brochure in the shop at the exit to get more detailed information. Likewise, audio descriptions would have been very helpful while visiting the museum. I also ask the authorities to pay attention to the descriptions and numbering of the remains, because the English descriptions are in one place, and the direction of the numbers is on the other. We had to look at the descriptions one at a time and go around and find the right artifact among the jumbled numbers and go back to the description. It is both confusing and time-consuming.

Nice building and very interesting collection. Some outstanding pieces from different ages of local history from the stone age to medieval times. It is interesting to see themes and shapes carried across history especially the religious altars which existed even in copper age period. The amount of artifacts means you can spend a few hours to see the whole collection which is enough for almost everyone.

This building was constructed in the rebuild of 2014, meaning it's extravagant, over the top and blocks a view of the old Skopje. I found that it lacked a lot of descriptions, the lighting was dim (I couldn't read majority of those that did have descriptions) and that it was mostly focused on coins. I was in and out after 30-45 mins.

Nice exhibition but definitely lacking information, most of the exhibits only have the date they're from and nothing else. Also the lady at the ticket box was super unfriendly. As we left the museum, every worker here was listening to loud music on their phones....

The worst museum we ve ever been Super rude lady in the ticket office, the ticket should cost 150 mkd, but we were charged 500 mkd per person without any explanation. No map, no guide… and the experience was very poor. Not recommended at all.

It is a 5* museum. The building is beautiful inside-outside. The exhibition areas are very modern, demanding and stylish. The exhibition has wild range of materials, pieces on two levels in the building. Very worth to visit! The entrance fee is 300 MKD but when we visited we payed 150 MKD/person although we are not students... maybe because we were there on Sunday...

A huge building from the outside but very very limited number of foundings inside. The biggest piece you will see is the Alexander Sarcophagous, which is a replica as the original is displayed in Istanbul Archeology Museum. There is a lot to do here to serve as a "proper" museum. Entrance is 150 MKD for tourists. 45 minutes is more than enough to see the entire museum. There are many signs giving information about excavations however only in Macedonian. So you will need a translation software to understand what is what.

Entance is cheap, (only 150 Macedonian Denars). All posters and almost all info is in Macedonian. There are only a few signs in English that only states the artifact and approximate era. Was in and out in less than 30 minutes. No guidance, no direction, rude attendant at the ticket office. Sadly, not too informative

The collection is modest with some rooms closed but what is displayed is attractively done. I loved the measuring table used to standardise liquid volumes in a market and the reproduction of Alexander's sarcophagus. I spent a leisurely hour here and it was most pleasant.

The museum itself is nice, but we expected more in terms of guidance. At the entrance you can see that the price includes guidance and is also different for english and macedonian guidance. We were charged the higher price, but there was no guidance at all in any language. We were asked to leave the backpack at the reception, which is totally underatandable, but I was asked to leave my very small purse there as well, the reason being that it is "too big", while I saw a few other women being able to carry their belongings with them. The cashier was quite rude as well. Exhibition 4/5. Service 1/5.

What is displayed offers exciting journey through findings, what civilizations have left on Macedonian soil. What is lacks is order how the findings are presented, one can watch artefakts from Neolithic age next to the 18th century artefakts. From 3 floors only one and half was available to see. Centuries are missing. Employees are lethargic and not talkative or willing to share their knowledge (if they have it). Loud Serbian pop music was playing as we entered Macedonian National Museum.

We have visited it in September 2021 and it was very interesting exhibit with items from even Paleolithic period. Most of the artifacts are dating from ottoman and then Neolithic period. There is, also, entire section with statues dating back to Roman times. What is missing, though, is somewhat more of the information on civilizations that artifacts belonged to. Given the geographical location of the North Macedonia and number of civilizations lived here you’d have to research further for different periods who would be the civilization certain items could belong to. Otherwise pretty good exhibit. It’s a must visit if you are visiting Skopje.

The museum has 3 areas, one is the lapidarium and then 2 have pottery and various other type of objects from the different ages. The exhibits are interesting and nicely displayed. Unfortunately the museum has nothing interactive and does not really tell a story or more , just shows objects. Employees minimalistic and the architecture is kind of kitsch, low quality, no authentic style and not maintained.

Really cool, ancient artifacts but really poor labeling and organization. Staff are apathetic at best and the whole place is disappointing in that they squander the opportunity to do justice to their amazing history. The place needs more love and attention but no one here seems to care.

3rd floor isn't open. Do NOT go until it is. They skip 2000 YEARS of history by blocking off the top. It's a shame because the museum design is quite beautiful. They also just kind of show you many artifacts with names, but 0 explanation. Tons of words I've never seen before to name an artifact. There are some explanations in the hall but primarily in Macedonian. I learned almost nothing more about Macedonian history by going here than before I did.

Despite the impressive building it's housed in, the actual museum is quite small. I was in & out in 30 min, as there was little to see. The ticket lady can care less if you're there. She also tried to get me to pay more than the official posted admissions and should be reported! Lonely Planet got this one wrong by citing it as a "must-see." Admission is cheap for a reason. My $3 would have been better spent on a beer!

The museum offers different items to check in a chronological order. There are plenty of paintings depicting life, rituals and professions in different ages - all the paintings add a gallery-like touch to the place. At parts there is no proper lighting which is odd. Also only the name of the items are displayed (in English too) but no explanation on historical insight to read at all. There's a sculpture room and coins exhibition as well.

I would still recommend because of how many things there were, but -stuff was unproffesional and i felt offended -price of tickets didn’t match with paper on ticket table, it was more expensive(8€ instead of 5€) -lightning was greatly rotated for great photos, but also - around artefacts were lights sometimes broken so you couldn’t read stuff written about them and.. -there were almost no facts about them, How am i supposed to know? … -I want to learn not to see Nothing for 8€, 8€?! -and you have to put your extra stuff(bag/jacket) next to ticket table, which is next to entrence WITHOUT lockers and nodody were there to keep eye on it

The Archaeological Museum of Macedonia is an imposing structure that occupies a privileged spot in the center of Skopje. The building is hard to miss since it sits right next to the main bridge that links the old and new parts of town. Tall white Ionic columns are topped by a couple of domes and a neo-classical portico. The architectural style is difficult to pinpoint, but the glitz reminded me of Las Vegas as do many other similar buildings in the Macedonian capital.
