Krav
Maga
was
created
in
Israel
in
the
1940s,
during
the
war
against
the
Arabs,
as
a
self-defense
and
combat
technique.
Until
1987
the
fight
was
kept
secret
by
Israeli
forces,
and
to
this
day
part
of
the
technique
remains
secret.
In
its
civilian
version,
the
primary
objective
is
to
enable
anyone
to
escape
aggression
using
only
their
own
body
as
a
weapon.
The
blows
are
short
and
explosive,
applied
to
weak
points
to
take
down
the
attacker
quickly
and
effectively.
Improvisation
is
encouraged.
"The
student
must
evaluate
each
situation
and
plan
the
reaction
safely",
says
instructor
Avigdor
Zalmon.
The
training
includes
responses
to
various
attacks.
There
are
no
rules
or
competitions.
"The
true
measure
of
a
student's
level
is
their
ability
to
react
in
the
real
world,"
says
instructor
Kobi
Lichtenstein.
It
takes
a
lot
of
training
under
the
guidance
of
an
instructor,
an
oversight
can
be
fatal.
As
a
last
resort,
the
police's
advice
is
valid:
don't
react,
don't
make
sudden
movements,
let
them
know
when
you're
going
to
move
and
-
without
facing
the
attacker
-
pay
attention
to
their
physical
characteristics
to
describe
them
later.
