Interesting museum about windmills. The museum itself is quite small and a good visit could be done in around 1 hour. The museum accepts museumcards. The museum starts with the old house of the last people that lived there, continuing at higher floors with more information regarding windmills, the De Valk windmill and its history. On the ground floor the museum lacks some explanation, also the movie has no subtitles and is difficult to understand if someone watches it in a different language. There are many nice paintings in the windmill. The climb up is worth it, the chairs can be a bit difficult sometimes. There is a underground parking next to the windmill.

One of my favourite windmills in the Netherlands, specifically because of the museum inside it. We get to learn a lot about windmills, and it's an experience to climb up the windmill and look at the Leiden city from a different perspective. The city view is amazing from the top of this windmill. Just be careful while climbing the stairs inside it because they get steeper with every level and I definitely am extra cautious and a bit scared while getting down from the upper most level. Also, the entry to the windmill is free with the museumkaart.

This museum houses a small house, with all rooms still furnished in 18th-19th century taste. You can also climb up to the top floor to find out how the windmill mechanisms work. Nice and inexpensive visit for only 5 euros.

Good place to visit. You will get to see many old ancient objects used during 17th to 18th century. Some nice collection in the museum. And city view from the top is mesmerizing. There are total 7 floors which you can visit.

I was really impressed with this. You can access almost all the floors (I think apart from the very top) and there are information plates throughout the museum. These detail progression of the mills, their operation and importance to the dutch landscapes and economy. There was also a video on the first floor that was fascinating and well done. The mill was in operation while we were there, so inside you could see the rotational force on show, I didn't expect this at all and was a pleasure. The stairs are very steep and tight so if you have any accessibility issues you may struggle, just so you're aware.

Beautiful place to visit and walk around, both at night and during the day. The weather was perfect for sitting on the grass by the windmill to relax and enjoy the day.

I love it… if you ever wonder how it looks like to be inside a house in a wind mill, you should go there. Inside house is beautiful too.

It is quite an interesting experience to get in a windmill and see how it works and how it is decorated. By the way, the ladders could be bothersome for the people with walking problems or for the small kids. Entrance fee is 5 € for adults.

During our visit to Molen de Valk in Leiden, we saw a really old windmill. It's been around since 1743 and is a big part of the city. We went inside and learned how it used to grind grains using the wind's power. When we climbed up, we could see Leiden from way up high, and it was an amazing view. This windmill is a special part of the city's history and a must-visit for anyone exploring Leiden.

I wasn't able to reach the top as the stairs were steep. It was indeed a wonderful experience though as I was able to learn a lot. A souvenir shop is located at the ground floor and the prices are very reasonable.

Amazing! All wooden parts inside you can see in action; the mechanism is truly impressive. It gives a great understanding on how it actually works! Worth to see!

Super neat place and as simple as the technology may seem behind the windmill, it's pretty advanced for its times. They also have a little gift shop which is nice for souvenirs. Nice view from the top!

This is a very beautiful and unique experience! I highly recommend touring the mill. The woman at the front desk is incredible and lovely!!! She gave us amazing tips for the rest of our day in Leiden and made our day!

Interesting to see an old grain mill inside. Not suited for people who do not like steep stairs.

A glamorous place to see the entire ancient windmill and know its history (Didn’t know whether a collected paper or not but saw a lot of paper rubbish under the bench). It is a historic museum located in the center of Leiden. Molen De Valk, or Falcon Mill in English, was created in around 1743 and has served multiple purposes over decades, including as a tobacco mill, a grain mill and even a residence. Now visitors can drop by it to learn more about the history of windmills and its techniques.

There used to be 19 windmills on the ramparts of Leiden; only De Valk is left standing. The current mill has had two predecessors. In 1611, the standard mill "De Valck" was built on the Valkenburger stronghold, which had to make way for a wooden tower mill in 1667. In 1743, the city council gave permission to build an even higher tower mill, this time of stone. This is the current 29 meter high windmill "de Valk", In the 19th century most windmills were torn down but "de Valk" is the only one in Leiden left standing.

Small and interesting museum inside the windmill, you can see how they lived and the mechanics of the windmill. A nice movie about windmills. Not for disabled because you have to climb

We were the last people to come in and were rushed out from about 15 minutes before we were supposed to leave. I understand closing times, but they had insane sharp stairs to go down from and that could cause an accident.

A beutiful pip into 18th century technology. This particular wind mill was used to grind flour. A great experience.

For someone afraid of heights the stairs (more like ladders) were difficult... but the mill was truly amazing. The excursion was worth it the information you get is very valuable and interesting especially for only 5€. Thanks for maintaining the mill over the years. Greetings from Switzerland.

Beautifully restored Dutch windmill. The self guided tour starts on the ground floor, where you can see the fully furnished living quarters of the miller and his family. As you gradually ascend the building you learn all about the history of the mill (the only remaining one of the dozen that surrounded the town) and the life of the owners. All information is provided in both Dutch and English. When you reach the top you can go out onto the platform that encircles the building. From here you have lovely views of the town and you can also see the sails up close as they rotate. There is a small shop and well kept toilets. We spent over an hour here and all the family enjoyed the visit.(There are a lot of stairs and ladders to climb!)

Beautiful and unusual mill museum: the apartment of the owners on ground floor shows considerable wealth, there is an excellent movie about the history of mills in the Netherlands and there is an astonishing number of floors, each with a specific function and you can even step outside on the stage.

Very interesting but lots of climbing involved! Worth it for the views. No cafe though.

  • 4/5 Mc D. 2 years ago on Google
For €5 you get to climb to the top of the windmill and follow the story of how mills were built and improved throughout times and how they work to make flour. There's a souvenir shop at the ground floor too. The minus is, the stairs are super steep, and not very comfortable to climb, so you need to be pretty fit to make it up and down.

You must go. Very cool to see the old ways and the historic building. The views are awesome. All writings are available in English.

Very interesting and extensive exhibition for such seemingly small building. It is a round 5 floors of showpieces and pieces of working mechanism accompanied by the educational film about Dutch mills. Totally worths its 5€.

Fun area to hang out and walk around. Lots of places to eat and drink nearby. We didn't enter the museum but there are nice sculptures to look at and the mill is beautiful from the outside.
