Very good place to go for a walk and relax. Plenty of walking paths in any directions. Green around and not over crowded. Also you can grab coffee or tea and something to eat for reasonable price in cafe located next to old mine building.

This is well worth a visit. Very informative about our mining history. The staff great and its all dog friendly and all they ask for is a small donation because its run by volunteers.

This is an excellent place to visit, it’s a real gem. The guides are very informative and passionate and the exhibit are very interesting. It’s definitely worth a visit. There also the park area around for a walk plus it’s a free car park.

Had a brilliant morning here! Walked in and was greeted by Tony. Tony then asked if we'd like him to show us around. A brilliant man, very knowledgeable. Explained everything, a true asset! Went for a coffee in the cafe after. A lovely morning!x

Nice little museum run entirely by volunteers and free admission. You have to admire the dedication of these volunteers, who spend their time keeping the place running and imparting knowledge to visitors. Well worth a visit if you're in the area.

A piece of local coal-mining history. Loads of mining memorabilia including the winding drums and gear which are run every month. Well worth a visit. Guided tours catered for by volunteers - usually on Wedesday, Thursday and Sunday mornings. Large groups catered for out of these times by appointment. Entry to the museum is free, but donations are welcome (card or cash) as the building are equipment up-keep is dependant on this.

The Wobbly Wanderers were here to see the 150th anniversary of the sinking of the pit. We found quite a lot of restoration has been accomplished since our last visit. There's now more "working parts". The day was made more interesting by a fly over by a Lancaster Bomber.

The pit itself is now open! Every 2nd Sunday. Amazing people and the volunteers give some amazing insights. A real gem that I didn’t know about. Great that it is now open. It is also really worthwhile popping into the cafe and having a walk around. The footpaths have recently all been relayed. There are also several trails from here that are on the old railway lines

Had a great visit. The volunteer who did our tour (an ex miner) was very knowledgeable and they all sound a dedicated and hard working team of volunteers. Free to look round but donations are greatly appreciated. Nice big cafe, lots of bike riding and walking opportunities around the country park. Will go again.

Run by friendly volunteers. Guides knowledgeable as all former miners. Good choice of food on menu and value for money. Good place for biking stop on the five pits trail

My father and I spent a lovely morning here. Thanks especially to the lady in the cafe for her help in trying to sort my glasses, which lost a lens. I did manage to sort them when I got home.

One of my favourite places because of what's there, its history, plus a great place for a breakfast or lunch stop while on a bike ride.

Visited the Cafe today for lunch and the service was shocking. I can appreciate that they are currently awaiting a new kitchen manager and are not operating a full menu, however, that doesn't excuse the poor service. Negatives: - Order was taken incorrectly. - Forgot to give us our drinks. We had to ask after waiting 10+ minutes. - Food arrived wrong. Had to be re done. - No salad with the lunch as mentioned on the menu. - The Cafe interior was chilly. Positives: - Nice place, would like to visit the museum in the future. - I appreciate the charitable work they are doing in preserving coal mining history. - The food that did arrive was very nice. - The cakes were nice.

This is a fantastic place to visit. Only through the hard work and dedication of volunteers is this important part of our history able to be preserved for people to visit and learn of its significance to the local area and Britain's coal mining industry. There are two headstocks that dominate the site as well as a chimney and engine house with massive steam winders. There are so many interesting artefacts to see and the volunteers are happy to answer any questions and tell you about the collierys history that dates back to the 1870's. There's also a little shop and a good cafe with outside picnic tables.
