We had the most delicious Afternoon Tea at the Petersham Hotel and the service was second to none. The Staff were friendly and welcoming. The sandwiches and pastries; were freshly made and yummy (unlike some of the top hotels in London). We had a delightful time The setting is beautiful and the decor reminiscent of 1920s glamour. If you a like a little luxury, I highly recommend it. We will definitely be back.

Sadly not what it use to be. After spending the last four years overseas, we returned for what we hoped would be a great stay and return to the UK. The pre pandemic staff have gone. Room cleaning is below par. The food is not what it once was the and the service and attention of staff at a five star hotel is far from what it should be. Huge disappointment.

*** Lovely hotel but service severely lacking! Stayed here to celebrate me and my partner getting engaged on the same day, having just proposed in Richmond. Hotel was lovely in a great setting overlooking the Thames and we always wanted to stay here after living locally for 4 years. We walked into reception to check in and the receptionists gave off a rejecting feel, as if we did not belong here. We paid £300 for our room which was already v expensive but we were celebrating a big occasion so was OK about this. We checked into our room and told the receptionists / front of house manager that we had just got engaged.. no ‘congratulations’ or even a smile, just a blank look! We would not normally expect free things but when celebrating birthdays or anniversary’s in other hotels before they have always provided something complementary.. we asked whether they could offer us anything after getting engaged a couple of hours before and they duly brought up to the room a bottle of £100 champagne with the invoice to pay there and then. We sent this back and asked the receptionist to clarify the situation as we thought maybe there was some confusion, however, she said in an angry manner to pay or leave it. There was no offer of even a glass of Prosecco or even something smaller to celebrate. This left us with a bit of a sour taste on what was a special day for us and was surprising given the amount that we paid in a hotel that is also a wedding venue! Even on checkout there was no “how was your stay?” Or even “have a lovely day!” which you’d get in even £20 hostels. Again a lovely hotel in a great location but if you want a service to match the price then this isn’t the place.

Unfortunately, I didn’t have the privilege of staying in one of the famous rooms at the hotel. However, being there for their breakfast slot was beyond amazing. You could feel the rich history and the architectural genius on every floor and wall. The dining room has tones of space with the views of their garden catching your eye at every turn. The service was beyond perfect, hilarious and full of that warm welcoming energy that you need on an early weekday morning. The single let down for me was the breakfast itself. Aside from all of the pastries, the different spreads and freshness of the bread. The actual meal itself was disappointing and didn’t live up to the standards of other breakfasts I’ve had at different locations including hotels. The English breakfast was very dry because there was no option of beans or something else moist. The other options on the menu such as the different eggs benedict looked very tempting. Although the food didn’t live up to expectations considering the price and name of the hotel I was still enthralled by my visit. Walking around the different halls in the hotel and seeing the detail designs and historic art pieces felt like we were walking amongst greatness. Nestled right next to Richmond riverside, it proves to be a must see establishment whether you’re passing by or booked yourself a room and/or the restaurant.

Myself and my new wife had our wedding here and I can’t thank the staff enough for the amazing atmosphere they created. The food is fantastic, the views are great, very accommodating and an amazing venue. We will certainly be recommending the Petersham hotel to friends and family and we will definitely be back in the near future either for a weekend away or for a lunch/dinner. Thank you again to the entire team for making our wedding such an amazing experience!

I've visited the Petersham Hotel for afternoon tea and I had an amazing experience. Afternoon tea is English thing to do, so try it when you will be around. Highly recommend this place. It has gorgeous view to a lake where you can walk. For afternoon tea I had a variety of tea, 4 types of sandwiches, scons with nice buttery cream, and desserts. Experience was so worth it. And all of this for 40 pounds. Service was exceptional and only thing was missing is live music 😁

A beautiful location with views across the River Thames and parklands of Richmond from the vantage of a hill site. My room was small but well furnished, Room 220 is fine for one night but l would not take it for longer. Small and given the cost of rooms, not good value for money. The hotel is a pleasant Victorian gothic style building furnished in the Georgian style predominately. Staff attentive and friendly, Excellent drinks, food was very good but my portions were small. My friend said he had the same meal the day before but his meal was twice the size of my one. The quality is good, prices expensive for size of rooms, meals, l have stayed at better starred hotels for better prices but given its unique location l guess the views cost to enjoy. Some minor cleaning issues and noisy fitting windows that kept me awake on a windy night were issues, these coupled with a tiny room that was piping hot all night stopping a good sleep, or much sleep impound on my comments. Overall it gets a B plus but well worth a visit, The staff team go out of their way to ensure they do the best for the guests in service and attention. It's a great location, serves good food and service with a genuine smile.

Went for drinks at the bar. Stunning views over the riverside, but expected more in terms of drink quality. A little bit of a sterile vibe and outdated inside. The view and location is its selling point

I recently had the pleasure of visiting The Petersham hotel in Richmond park with my mum and daughter, and I must say, it was an absolutely delightful experience. We stumbled upon this hidden gem in the afternoon and were immediately captivated by its charm and elegance. The highlight of our visit was undoubtedly the traditional English afternoon tea. The cozy environment and picturesque view of the Thames River from our window seat made the experience even more special. As we indulged in the delectable treats and sipped on our tea, we couldn't help but appreciate the attention to detail and the impeccable service provided by the staff. One unique aspect of The Petersham hotel that caught our attention was the display of pictures of famous visitors along with the dates of their visits. It was fascinating to see the history and the stories behind the hotel's esteemed guests. It added an extra layer of intrigue and made us feel like a part of something truly special. The overall ambiance of The Petersham hotel was warm and inviting, creating a perfect setting for a memorable afternoon. The staff was friendly, attentive, and knowledgeable, ensuring that every aspect of our visit was enjoyable. If you're looking for a traditional English afternoon tea experience with a stunning view and a cozy environment, I highly recommend The Petersham hotel. It's a hidden oasis in Richmond park that will transport you to a world of elegance and indulgence.

Beautiful place I was here for a wedding, lovely food and good wine. The staff were very attentive and ensured any issues were quickly resolved. The atmosphere was delightful, the coffee was very good as well. Looking at the menu their prices are reasonable considering the area. Great experience

4 star hotel in good location. I would put it at the lower end of 4* *Rooms basic and noisy. Moved from original room with balcony as you couldn't swing a cat in there and you fell out of the bed straight into the bathroom. 2nd room was larger with shutters on windows. Problem was it had bright lights on outside all night which illuminated the room. So if you like a dark room prob avoid or ask in advance. Bathrooms are tired and facilities within the rooms basic. *Food. Massively overpriced for what it is. Poor experience on both mains which the Manager struggled to deal with which was a shame. *Could be good but from my perspective it gets some basics wrong. If you go with low expectations you'll probably be ok.

Stayed overnight here and the service was super friendly and efficient. Parking was easy and the location is amazing- walking distance to the main shops and the park. The room was clean and well stocked but the standard double room felt quite claustrophobic which ruined my sleep a bit. When I checked out, a lovely gentleman at reception offered me the room to shower in after my run which I really appreciated as well.

Incredible experience. I booked this hotel as a surprise for my family to show them a different side of London - something they’ve seen in movies (like The Secret Garden). The location is pretty epic. On a hill next to green fields and a footpath next to the Thames. Simply beautiful and peaceful. Stepping into the hotel, you’re greeted by a gorgeous staircase that goes up to a painted ceiling. The reception staff were really helpful and kind. The breakfast was delicious and the seating area and service was immaculate. The views from there were even better. Our hotel room was clean, cozy and relaxing. The hotel is conveniently located adjacent to Richmond Park and right next to bus 65 that can take you to Kingston (and then Hampton Court Palace) or Ealing Broadway where you can catch the Tube or train elsewhere. I would stay here again given the chance.

Location great, breakfast expensive for what you get, I do question it's 4 star rating. For the 210 pound room I had and the breakfast. It's not worth the money, nothing special about it. The bread used for toast appears to the packet ones from supermarket. Cold when brought out in a basket, the butter did not spread on it. Suggestion would be to serve good quality fresh bread/toast for the 24 pound breakfast charge. The toast and pastries come to your table in a basket before you receive the your plate of food. I think it must be pre prepared the basket of. Toast. And pastry. (don't expect hot toast to). I have had better breakfast and great quality ingredients for half the price at a cafe. However, it could be due to the location they charge that much. The room, is not £210 worthy or 4 star, crack in bathroom tiles floor. Had issues with the room, was resolved. Suggest that if you know this, drop the price and let the person know about it,.so know what to expect it do not let out the room untill fixed it and is. 4 star worthy.. I don't know what the other rooms are like, can only comment on the room I had, room 211. Hopefully this is resolved before other bookings (big crack like in bathroom floor tiles, and room needs.some paint touch ups, radiator heating was broken so could could not turn it down), and breakfast that I had. About the breakfast see for yourself not 4 star worthy or special, (try it yourself, especially the toast) I would suggest to go into town and have breakfast and a coffee there. Did speak to people about the room and issue was resolved regarding the heating. Helpful, in that way.

I have photographed many weddings at the Petersham Hotel. The Hotel is positioned in such a beautiful setting and the view of the Thames is stunning. Inside the Terrace suite and the River room provide the perfect setting for an elegant and sophisticated wedding!

Afternoon birthday tea: service is exceptional, beyond hospitable. The venue is absolutely stunning. You are made to feel a million dollars. I'm not sure if wheel chair friendly; Lots of stairs. Make sure you check your car in at reception as they WILL ticket. I noticed as leaving and the manager was kind and helped. The afternoon tea, along with views of Father Thames and beautiful surroundings made this 1000% special. Perfect wedding venue as well. Staff are wonderful.

Booked two interconnecting rooms in the August 2021 for my wedding in April 2022. When I turned up the day before my wedding the rooms had been given away to someone else, so I was in alternative rooms and had to rejig things around. The manager was very helpful and put me in other rooms, not the end of the world. It just wasn't very professional for the price.

Doesn't rate a hotel-style 3 stars. We had coffee, overlooking a part of Richmond Park, view was quite good, service was good. But furniture (chairs) were grubby, glass tables all scratched and grubby. Would not consider staying there now. Clearly, some recent add-on parts to the original building but grubby furniture, in common parts, lets it down.

I love The Petersham, the building, grounds and location overlooking the meandering Thames are impressive. The service in the resteraunt however is the crowning glory. I have worked in hospitality and the team serving in the resteraunt are world class. I had a great meal with family and they made us feel special. Thank you!

Fabulous hotel, fabulous location. Room sumptuous and very clean and comfortable with a touch of Luxury. Our room had no A/C but with windows open and fan on full blast it was fine. I understand why no A/C as it is such a beautiful building, situated right next to the Thames! Staff were so friendly and accommodating.

A charming elegant place with great customer service! I had been to Petersham Hotel on many occasions before but I went there as recently as a couple of weeks ago with my family to celebrate an anniversary. While the afternoon tea itself was superb, the staff at the restaurant did all they could to make the occasion a memorable one. They were very polite, attentive and professional. There may be similar places in and around Richmond which may well be just as characterful as Petersham Hotel but without a good customer service the experience will not be whole. What a treasure!

A bit out of the way, great place, river view was stunning. A bit pricey for a 4 star hotel but loved it all the same. Rooms not quite as quiet as thought they'd be.

Excellent hotel in a lovely location. I stay here regularly for work. The staff are friendly, helpful and provide excellent service. The rooms are really nice, comfortable and well looked after. The breakfast is really good. Even the Christmas tree is lovely

This was the first time I visited the Petersham for lunch. What an experience the views are amazing over Richmond Hill 360 degrees with no obstructive views. Food was top quality with an outstanding service. I will definitely go again for afternoon tea.

We went to the. New Years Eve Dinner. After a very welcoming welcome we were guided into an exquisite lounge area where we indulged in one of their many available cocktails, once comfortably relaxed we were shown to our table, from then on everything was perfect the staff were attentive without being over the top and accommodated our every need, even where I said that I could not have Grapefruit the course was changed without question, and overall the menu and flavours were faultless, and can't wait to return to try again,we had a wonderful evening and if I did have to find fault it would only be that as it was New Year's Eve and even though the entertainment was first class,it would have been the icing on the cake if there had been even a small area to of had a dance and see in the New year.It dose seem a shame that now days there are less and less venues where couples can not only have an excellent meal but also have the extra pleasure of a dance to make a complete evening out.never the less thankyou for a. wonderful evening.

Made a booking only to be called up informing us of a surcharge for a third person (£50/day just for a sofa bed!). The booking was correctly made via Hotels for 3 people, so very misleading. Please make sure you advertise your property correctly...

  • 3/5 Mark S. 1 year ago on Google
The hotel is a little over priced and you are initially charged a large amount over the cost of your room in case you want to go to breakfast or the bar - that is incredibly presumptuous and no one asked my permission. The doors slam quite loudly and if an event is taking place noisy guests and banging doors can go on late into the night. I would certainly recommend this hotel for dinner, having done so in the past, but I would not stay again.

Went here for my friend's birthday party yesterday, and was impressed at how impeccable the service was. Sophia, the Ukrainian waitress at The Terrace Room was brilliant, efficient, professional and polite. She was almost like a hostess and did and excellent job. Despite not being that fluent in English, she did rather well! A definite asset to this hotel.
