So glad we stopped by this church. They say it was one of the places that egged the revolution on for the downtrodden of Soweto. It was so beautiful inside, I hope it continues to stay full with the faithful. The surroundings are a little sad (poverty). The stained glass inside the church was amazing. Images of Mr Mandela leading people, mixed in with religious.

Iconic church in the heart of Soweto. This landmark church has stood the test of time. It is still in a good condition after all these years. Parking space is limited.

It was funeral service of one of our Priests. Father Bongani Anthony Sithole. It was a beautiful and dignified send off. Our music, St. Cecilians topped it all. Everything was well organized. The alter, sitting arrangement, microphones and catering. But the video camera man was facing one side and was not turning around. I guess he took the most important area, the front part.

History weighs heavily here. It's not often that you don't bullet holes in a place of worship. The tour is well worth the time.

Quite amazing being here, feeling the energy of the "People's Cathedral". Gave me chills seeing the bullet holes. Standing in the same spot where some of the most influential people of the anti-apartheid movement, and those still fighting injustice today, have stood. The Black Madonna is beautiful addition to this church, if you look closely, details of the community are present.

Traditional Catholic Church I grew up in as an alter boy doesn't have the same spark and big crowds lost to charismatic christian churches. But still maintains same old tradition and values.

Certainly a lot of history but R50 per person entrance fee a bit much. Never had to pay before to visit a church.

Specious church hall, though the alter is aloef. The church must review parking facility. For the size of the church, ablootion facility needs revision. It is a church with a lot of history. A venue of resistance to apartheid state.

The very heart and soul of SOWETO. The local guide, Danny, carries 30 years of history in his head. His narrative is both interesting, fun for kids and very eloquent. Yet, it doesn’t hide the pain of the uprising and the struggle for freedom. The walls and roof carry the scars of the apartheid, bullet holes and shattered panes. Interesting murals and one of only 3 BLACK MADONNA’S in the world. Visited on a Sunday. Service was just done. Families chatting outside while kids played. Many famous people have visited these hallowed walls. Be sure to visit , and when you do, support the local community.

Regina Mundi Catholic Church, not only boasts a remarkable history but also stands as one of the largest and most impactful churches in Soweto. Its strategic location in Rockville makes it easily accessible, while its spacious compound offers ample parking and even a park that can be used for additional vehicle accommodation.

Visit the place for yourself and see. Has a museum and a confession booth. If you're an apartheid apologist and the museum somehow speaks to your conscious then just ask the priest for a confession and do your penance right there. And Voila! You now have a one way ticket to the Pearly Gates.

Part of our heritage. Receptionist not so helpful. Guides are funny and very knowledgeable. They also went out of their way to show us much more about the immediate surroundings of the church, especially the shebeen wish my guests had heard about. Relaxing and entertaining.

😐 The memorial tower with the 10 chapters of the freedom charter worth a visit. However, the whole area very neglected and dirty. Why the residents of Soweto take so little pride in their history is a mistery to me.
