Well there's no nice way to say this.. the service was bad and the food followed suit. Water glasses were left empty, the pasta was over salted (and I like salt!), and my poor salmon was definitely overcooked, and the portions for the appetizer in particular, oh so tiny and sad. The menu drew us in because it looked ambitious and interesting, the experience was just one big fat disappointment. But we still had a great time and the decor was nice too, although it was noisy and lacking in intimacy. Just don't expect fine dining or service that shows care and professionalism. It's not available at Bolete. It's a restaurant that falls far short of what it aspires to be, and what it aspires to be is what made us go there in the first place.

On a lazy, late afternoon we popped in for drinks and appetizers.We were shocked that we somehow missed this restaurant. With an inviting interior that exposes the kitchen and an outdoor patio...it seemed promising. Service was attentive but we were also the only patrons. We liked the creative drink menu, but the actual drinks fell short. Drink menu was appealing to the eye yet the flavors simply didn't come together. Oysters were good and we also ordered dumplings. Alright happenstance stop but we were not wowed by the food or drinks. By the same token, we didn't order much so it is possible we missed the wow factor.

Reservation was at 7PM...got our food at 9:35PM. Honestly, that's unacceptable, we were a group of 10+. Bill wasn't calculated right due to 10+ people. Manager should have done something about this to compensate for the delays. Waitress was doing great and did a great job. The striploin was cooked well and decent flavors.

I’ve been coming to Bolete for awhile and I can confidently say I’ve tried at least 75% of the menu at this point. I don’t think I’ve ever had a dish I didn’t like. You really do get what you pay for when it comes to the portion sizes and flavours. If you’re going for brunch, the Lobster Benny is my favourite. If you’re going for dinner, the crab cakes and lobster pasta are 10/10. It’s so great to have a restaurant in downtown SC that not only has great food but a really nice atmosphere. Can’t wait to go back!

Today I came to Bolete for a wedding party. We arrived earlier than our booked time, but our server named Courtney still sat us immediately. Since we were early, we got a chance to speak with some of the other servers who were very friendly and welcoming. The food was absolutely fantastic. We had dietary restrictions in our party, and Courtney and the kitchen were able to accommodate us without hesitation. The cocktails also looked amazing, but our table wasn't able to drink today since we had somewhere else to go quickly after. The servers (especially Courtney and another named Amy) and the kitchen truly went above and beyond for us too. If we visit St Catharines again, Bolete will be the first stop for sure.

If you appreciate a full dining experience with great food, service and ambience, then Bolete should be your first choice. You are welcomed like an old friend when you arrive and you can either sit inside and watch the culinary masters work or enjoy the summer weather on the patio. The lobster spaghetti is to die for, but then again, Sunday Brunch with the lobster benedict is too! Can't wait to make another reservation soon.

Stopped by for some apps and a glass of wine mid afternoon. We shared oysters, dumplings, tuna/salmon and chicken liver brulee. All were very flavorful and well presented. Service was great. Definitely will come back. Entrées looked amazing as they walked past our table.

I can’t believe this was the first time I’ve been here! This was a great little find in downtown St. Catharines. I had the Rib Eye with Pomme Croquettes and it was cooked perfectly. The Tempura fried perch to start was amazing! Service was excellent and staff were so friendly! I will definitely be back to try some other dishes!

Visited again, and was blown away. Again. Can't say enough about this place. Always a treat to enjoy the fancy food! Service was excellent and every plate we received looked like a piece of art. Definitely one of the best restaurants in St. Catharines. (Note: very accommodating for dietary restrictions, safe for celiacs!)

Who knew St. Catharines had such good food? We came for the wineries, but loved the food here. The carrot gnocchi were really creative and perfectly spiced. Love the fact that they only serve Niagara wines and rotate the list frequently to give different vintners an opportunity. Despite having visited a dozen of the not-so-huge wineries before coming here, we only recognized two of the ten wineries they featured, and the wines we got were great.

Way too expensive. A glass of wine $18.00?? A meal for 2 mostly vegetables and 3 scallops close to $150.00

It is hard to recognize it is the restaurant from outsite, but it is really beautiful inside. Warm asmostphere, professional environment with excellent quality of service! The food is so delicious! Highly recommend for who loves dimsum and Chinese cuisine!

Wow. One of the best Chinese restaurants. Ordered variety of dimsum and the pecking duck. So good. It honestly put all the downtown Toronto dimsum to shame. Too bad it's far and cant visit often. If I had a complaint itd be you should open in Toronto!

We had no expectations, as we are member of the PAC. We go for dinner and see a show. We thought we would try Bolete , as they have oysters. My favorite. This was our second visit to Bolete and we enjoyed it just as much as the first time. The menu is unique and interesting. The scallops were amazing, today, and the sauce was so good that I wanted to put my face into the bowl and lick up the sauce. (Note: I didn’t!) Service/timing might be an area to work on. Our food was delivered in this order: main dishes, drinks, and bread/butter.

This was our fourth visit to Bolete. As always, the service is great, atmosphere fantastic. We enjoyed the duck wings, daily appetizer feature, salad, dumplings. We shared all of it, and found the portions to be fair to the price and the quality was outstanding. Excellent local wine and a completely fantastic dining experience.

This was our first time at Bolete and we were celebrating our engagement. Upon arrival we were given a glass of champagne which was lovely. Our meal was absolutely incredible and the service was very professional and attentive. I would definitely recommend going here for sure.

My fellow diner had been there before and she recommended we share a particular item and then we each had an entree. Presentation was beautiful, dishware and silverware classy and clean. Always love a fabric napkin!! Interior is very clean and modern, lovely decor. Prices were good, considering the quality and presentation. Thank you for the positive experience. My only suggestion would be to keep the music lighter and a bit quieter, some tracks were heavy and loud, didn't suit the environment nor the experience. First time here - one of our favourite meals of all time. Oysters, truffle fries, pork belly and escargot for starters. (Best escargot I have had). Our mains were chicken supreme, cod and the short rib. Every single dish was perfect. Cocktails also delicious. (Highly recommend the New York Sour). Lovely staff and nice atmosphere. Exceptional food and service. Certainly comparable to my very favourite Toronto Restaurants. If I were only permitted a very short description I would say: HIGH END cuisine in a comfortable setting. and they book dinner parties too!

From out of town and originally booked another restaurant, but this little gem was recommended by someone in the industry. A lovely atmosphere. The lamb and pasta dishes were perfectly presented and delicious. Would also recommend the dumplings and sweet potato fries. We will definitely be visiting again when we are down this way.

Pre COVID March 14th we had dinner and the restaurant was empty , was the last restaurant we had dinner for three months the food was exquisite always but the service was impeccable . Tash was looking after us found him very knowledgeable courteous and attentive . Flip forward to October 2nd our first meal at Bolete since the March date. Once again we had the pleasure of being looked after by Tash and once again overwhelmed by the service. Tash is simply amazing be sure to ask for him when making reservations. Thank you Tash you are simply the best !!!

Had a great night with friends here. The place has a great open concept. Small but very well executed menu that tasted delicious. Portion of the pasta a little light.

Had the $40 winter warmer which was great value. Entree was ordinary, gyoza and seafood chowder. But the mains were awesome, steak and pork. Dessert was also very good. I would recommend this restaurant and will be going back.

Our server Emily was super friendly and knowledgeable about everything. After having oysters had 3 apps to share as well as a dinner. The warm olives were my favorite app and a must try if you enjoy them. Mixed spiced warm nuts were great as well with my seasonal beer. Choosing a drink was difficult because they offered so many interesting offerings.

I've been wanting to eat here for awhile, I've heard nothing but great reviews. We had the French onion soup and squid, along with the stew and lobster spaghetti. The service was great, however the food was just ok. For the price I was disappointed. The soup had almost no broth, the squid was tender, the dumplings in the stew were just bad, the spaghetti was ok.

Had such a great time here. The food was some of the best I've had all year. They know how to prepare duck. Awesome place.

Great service, great atmosphere, and great food. Good selection of Niagara wine (we had 13 King’s Riesling and Two Sisters Rosé). Tuna tartare was fresh and pleasing to the eye and the tongue. The lobster spaghetti and rib+chicken dish were tasty too. We were surprised at their mac and cheese served with the ribs—it had a fun spicy taste to it! The chicken was average but the ribs were sooo soft and well-balanced with the sauce. I would highly recommend this place!

We previously ate a bolete and felt it was one of the best restaurants in town. Upon our most recent visit we were greeted with food that was much more underwhelming and cheap. Corn and Mac’n’chesse were the only available sides. It felt very low fare for fine dining prices. Really sad about our most recent visit but hopefully this review can find the chef well as we love the service at the restaurant.

We had two eight year olds with us and I was a bit worried that the food would be too "fancy" for them, but they gave the food "one hundred out of a score of 10"! The adults all agreed. I cannot say enough about how much we all enjoyed this evening. We really hope that they do this event again next year. delicious!

We went on a thursday night. It was... okay. The food wasn't anything exceptional.

Tonight’s dinner suffered greatly. The soup was bland, the salad had qualities and some downside when I hit some raw onion that didn’t belong. And then the waitress forgot to put in our main order in. We sat for a long time without any attention from the waitress. Then , after an apology, the main course came and my wife’s fish was overly salty and had a redundancy of carrots that was weird. And my pasta was undercooked and felt like noodles and meat, nothing special at all. Everything was a miss tonight.

One of the best restaurants downtown St. Catharines for eclectic, interesting food. Every bite is fantastic. If you are interested in a modern vibe and a forward thinking menu, try Bolete. There’s a time and place for wings and burgers (you can find plenty downtown,) it’s not here and that’s good. You will find yourself trying to get a bit of each detail and ingredient on your fork for each taste and it’s worth it. The staff goes above and beyond. They remembered a food allergy we requested almost a year later and adjusted the meal without prompt.

The main course "Delish"-menu was very tasty and reasonably priced. Unfortunately three sequential requests to reduce the radio volume of Rawcus loud music were necessary and very inappropriate to fine dining. Earplugs should be provided for retirees.

This was a restaurant recommendation from a beautiful staff member at Vieni Winery - Bolete was a masterpiece through each dish. My wife and I started with duck wings (what a decadent glaze and melody of herbs), then dinner. I had the rabbit pappardelle (lovely and perfect proportioned) and my wife had the tenderloin (to put it lightly: the best tenderloin we've ever had, paired with baby red onions and some mashed potatoes all nestled in a reduction that sweeps your feet away).

Loud environment with a quiet staff. It was very difficult to hear our server the entire time. Pretty expensive for what I would call mediocre food. Every plate was more presentation than actual substance. Looks good on the plate, doesn't taste so good in your mouth.

The food was great. No concerns there. But service was a little lackluster. We weren't told of the weekly specials at any point prior to ordering, when in fact we would have preferred to order the entrees specials from the board, that we only discovered existed after our meal. When it was mentioned to the server she just stated "oh yeah those are the weekly specials" and then walked away. As I stated the food was excellent, but it takes it down a peg when you see something you would have preferred hands down but it's too late. Despite great tasting food, still leaves a bad taste in your mouth. Worth nothing the pierogi fries were delicious.

Thanksgiving dinner in this special Chinese restaurant. . Housed in period property, the ambiance was incredibly pleasing - classical lines and decor with imposing open beams and the lighting was both romantic and very welcoming. . Service was beyond reproach. Akhbar was very helpful and knowledgeable. The amazing service was only topped by the most insatiable, luscious and ambrosial food. . We had the Yang Chow Fried Rice, Fried Prawns with 1000 Island Sauce, Mama’s House Fried Chicken, Sautéed Bee with Szechuan Sauce and the Signature Cantonese Style Crispy Noodles. All were just superlative! . This restaurant is on the top 3 of my most loved Chinese restaurants in Canada! . Simply incredible!

Ma has amazing food, awesome atmosphere and staff have always been wonderful. The duck and calamari are our favourites! Prices are reasonable. The only complaint would be that every time I cal and leave my name and number for a reservation they can’t find it upon my arrival. That being said, we have always still gotten a table but it would be nice to not have my reservation questioned every time I visit.

I usually hate giving reviews, this place is worth it! Ma is bringing an elevated level to Chinese cuisine. Familiar foods but elegant and the flavors are truly authentic. I was really looking forward to eating here based on the google rating and many of my friends recommendations. But unfortunately, that was the most disappointing Chinese take out I have ever had, chicken was so over cooked and dry it was like chewing on cardboard, there was literally 20 sesames seeds on it, and zero spice. The vegetables were meh as well, also overcooked and little flavour. I ate it because I was hungry but the rest will be going into the compost.

Beautiful looking restaurant in a restored building with an elegant interior. Ma has an excellent menu that combines American-Chinese fare with more traditional dishes. There are many options to choose from, and their dim sum selections in particular offer lots of variety (I've never been able to order cuttlefish, chicken feet, or jellyfish at a restaurant before). The food is very flavourful, and can be made as spicy as you prefer. I was also impressed by how courteous and prompt all the staff were. I would have to say that Ma is one of the best restaurants in the Niagara region.

Tasty food. I love their dim sum menu. It's great for sharing or for getting a few small dishes for yourself. Their service is always great whether you pick up or dine in. I got take out for New year's Eve and it was ready to go on time. There were a number of people there to pick up orders and they quickly processed everything and had the food ready to go.

Really good fresh food. Takeout can be a little hit and miss in quality, but even when it’s not their best, it’s still really good.

Sometimes you find gems in the most unexpected places. I never thought that I'd eat some of the best Chinese food I've ever had in... St. Catherines? An otherwise forgettable mini-vacation to the wasteland that is Niagara Falls was totally redeemed by our visit to MA Chinese Cuisine. It's a simple and unassuming building from the outside, which only adds to the wow factor of the spectacularly designed interior. The menu rivals the September Issue in scope and elegance. But most importantly, the food lives up to its promise. It's a place where you can have the usual American-style Chinese comfort foods, and also indulge and explore more traditional fare. We've had a bit of both and could hardly find fault with anything. Keep it up and expect more visitors from Toronto in the near future!

I can’t comment on the food but I can comment on their organization/customer service. We had a reservation for 4 for ourselves and guests visiting from out of town, and when we showed up, it was closed. We knocked on the door, and were told that they were not doing any outdoor dining “because of the weather” (it was a nice night, so this made no sense). I asked why I didn’t receive a phone call, and was told that they thought I called to cancel. Mistakes happen, if I received a follow up call apologizing and explaining I would’ve looked past it and maybe gone back. But, that never happened. It was all pretty disrespectful.

I’ve probably dined at Bolete a little over half a dozen times now both with family and my boyfriend. It’s a great local restaurant with a refreshing menu, fun cocktails, and amazing oysters. I would definitely recommend the truffle fries, duck, and crème brûlée. While I will definitely return for the food, the service could be more consistent. On more than one occasion, our servers (who don’t bother to introduce themselves) have taken over 20 minutes to just take my boyfriend and I’s drink and food orders. This would be totally understandable if the restaurant was busy, but with a total of maybe 6 tables split across at least 2 servers, it was quite disappointing to feel so dismissed. Bolete’s menu always has unique plates, but I find myself hesitating to return as the service (perhaps towards patrons in their early 20s) is so off putting.

Second time my boyfriend and I have ate there and it is absolutely fantastic. The food is prepared to perfection and the team is amazing. Food is always creative and delicious. Local wines are all over the menu and well chosen. Cocktails are crafted wonderfully and taste amazing. Service is also great. Cheers to the chef and his whole team

The food was okay, the portions were small and it was really expensive. I might give this place another chance but I will be staying away from the salty seafood

Had an amazing evening at Bolete where me and my team enjoyed a Christmas dinner .The food was amazing,Jeffrey was very warm and hospitable ,Andrew did a great job with the food .The atmosphere was warm and comfortable ! Everyone had a good time .True downtown St Catharine’s gem.Highly recommend!

Just wonderful. We came for valentines day, and we will definitely be coming back. Staff was excellent, very caring and knowledgeable. Food was next level, each course was great but my favorite was the PEI oyster fritter. I will dream about it. Definitely give it a try, it is pricey so keep that in mind... But definitely worth it especially for an special treat.

My fiancé and I came to Bolete on a trip to Niagara on the Lake and we could not have had a better time. The service was quick and extremely friendly, the food was amazing and high quality, and the atmosphere was very comfortable yet classy. We had the crab cakes and oysters to start and they were both very good. The duck confit was delicious and the lobster spaghetti was delicate and perfectly cooked. We unfortunately did not have time to stay for dessert but we will surely be back at some point to make that right.

Absolutely loved this place, our food was amazing, service was top notch and the price was reasonable for sure given the top level experience. Best meal I've had in years hands down. We will definitely be back.

A modern restaurant with a lot of amazing talents which come to life in the chef prepared cuisine and curated cocktails. Never been disappointed. The meals are top notch and some of the most flavourful dishes. I have been coming here for years. I had several staff parties at bolete and also joined them for their NYE party 4 years ago and it was always very well run and organized and the food was delicious. That being said we know what we want and are patient in letting the chef and team make the event enjoyable and memorable for us.

Finally had a chance to experience this restaurant last night, which did not disappoint! The restaurant is clean, modern and not overwhelming (i.e., no blaring music to compete with when trying to have a conversation). The staff were attentive without being invasive. Finally, the food was delicious! We enjoyed three courses and will definitely be back for more!

We walked in to this restaurant accidentally but were very grateful we did. It is a hidden gem, understated from the outside but the atmosphere, service and food, repeat food, was outstanding and high end. Had their prime rib and pork chop, both of which were cooked perfectly. Had the chocolate salted caramel cheesecake which was to die for. Jeffrey and Amy were our servers and were welcoming, prompt, accommodating and impeccable in their service, even to the point of warming customers coats just prior to leaving. This is a restaurant not to be missed for a wonderful dining experience. This may sound like a paid ad but it is only an impressed customer.

We were visiting friends who moved to St. Catherine’s and wow were we introduced to an amazing place. Having never been to this town before I would certainly drive back just to eat here. Having a bit of a celebratory night we started with the Wescott Pinot which was pleasantly nice. Fortunately for us the chef had made a terrine and we started with that. It was on par with anything we have eaten internationally. We just wanted to stop there as the beginning of this meal was just that good.

I have enjoyed Bolete Restaurant. I have been going for some time now. Most excellent service and food. Although they sometimes, have inconsistency with their food. The Chef, stands over he's cooks. In an open viewable kitchen to the dining room. Yet, His cook's have shown inconsistency from time to time. This is unacceptable, on their level. It's contrary to the vision and place that the Chef is and would inspire to be. His reputation deserves more! I'd like to watch and keep attending this restaurant for the years to come. I hope it continues to grow in its craft. I would vouch for, Bolete Restaurant. I can recommend it.

Wow! What a great experience! It started with a nice glass of bubbly for the birthday girl and then something that has been missing from restaurants AMAZING IN HOUSE FRESH MADE BREAD - focaccia too (on the house - you can even buy the flour). We decided to share the truffle fries as an appie. The flavor of this dish was unbelievable and addictive, the fries were cooked to perfection no grease - it felt healthy. Then on to the artful entree lobster spaghetti! The flavor and texture - again perfection! I will definitely be back at Bolete. So many things to try and I’m pretty sure they are all amazing. This restaurant feels like you are at a friend’s comfy clean home! You won’t be disappointed! That’s a guarantee! Eating here is an experience you won’t want to miss!

Never disappointed here. Excellent chef owner. Amazing dishes. Cozy for dates. Nice selection of drinks. The menu is wide and covered wide range of selection. The most difficult part is to get a table here. It is worth the trip to st Catherine.

1st visit yesterday and will frequent again. Top notch service...true meaning of teamwork. Food delicious and a sight to behold. Perfectly seasoned and not swimming in sauces. 4 stars as at times music a little too loud. Fine dining at its best.

I never knew this place existed! It is a hidden gem and is one of the best meals we had in a long time. The food was amazing and well prepared, beautiful presentation. The service was also incredible. Overall a fantastic dining experience. We definitely will be back!!
