Being recent arrivals to the Garden City, this was our first Grape and Wine Festival, and it was quite the event. I had pictures of scattered booths with a variety of wineries selling glasses of wine and generally a quiet, reserved atmosphere. I was certainly surprised. It was a very upbeat vibe, with live music playing on a stage at the south end of the park, flanked by a combination of wineries, food booths, and a smattering of other fair, on either side. Some wineries were represented by their own booth, others in conveniently amalgamated booths. The West side was focused on NOTL, while the other side represented the Bench. Scattered in between were open booths that focused on specific varietals. There was a VIP booth, which we did not sample, and a nice cocktail bar set up in the Rosa Garden. The event was smoothly run, and well designed. My only suggestion would be a little more effective lighting at night, as it was sometimes difficult to navigate poorly lit areas. We will definitely return.

It's an event that gets most of St. Catharines outside ready to party as well as bringing in a lot of visitors. There are many events spread over two weeks in September, many of which take place in beautiful Montebello Park. There is lots of live music on a big stage, some of which can be quite appealing. The quality of the Grande Parade varies from year to year. It was quite something 50 years ago with well decorated floats and lots of real grapes.

My visit to the Niagara wine and food festival was amazing. I not only get to taste wine but I got a chance to taste some delicious food and soups. I will definitely go again and you should too. Just dress for the weather.

Much better this year without all the clutter and the cocktails in the garden was a nice touch this year as well as the vip mind you it's a bit to expensive and the rental only lasts for 2 hours which I think isn't worth it, $200 for the day is better with the perks of the 2 bottles of wine. Other wise not worth it and the pavilions needing tickets ahead of time. It's just a money grab for the top local restaurants from the park and recreational. They make money , but they make an extensive amount of money from us all regardless. Talk about greedy.. didn't like how there was no beer tent this year cause not everyone drinks wine. So they lost money this year and I don't appreciate security going through my purse or I can't come in that invasion of my privacy and that's illegal to refuse me to come in if you can't rummage through my purse. That's private and none of your business..

We decided to take the trip to Ontario Canada, Niagara Falls area, for the Ice wine festival. Sure, January is cold, so we dressed warm and caught the storm on January 18-20 with temps below zero and then add the wind chill. Traveling for the food pairings on Friday-Sunday with ice wine and many different food or dessert pairings. Not all wines were created equal. Some excellent, some ok, some bit so good. We decided to do a wine tasting and then do the sweet dessert wines. Those that co sums wi e know that Ice wines can be expensive due to the way they are produced. All wi Erie’s were friendly to my wife and I. The smaller or slower ones when we arrived often had staff that took extra time with us. Great tunes. Welcome to the Great White North. We also visited both falls at night and daytime, the Festival of Lights runs till Jan 31 and fireworks on Fridays over the falls Many other things to do while your there. Groupon runs many hotel deals with discount foods at restaurants. Worth the look. Hustle free. See ya there next year. Three weekends to choose from.

This year's parade was a little lackluster and slow. The weather was beautiful though. Some good wines to be had and a good social time to be and support local.

The cost to eat and drink is getting far too expensive.
