Old pub restaurant that we have visited for many years as a couple and with family. It's been fairly recently redecorated throughout but have still kept it looking original. It's owned by Greene King so has their beer, lager and cider selection which is fine. We stopped here on the way home from Stevenage as hadn't visited in a while and had a lovely lunchtime toasty and an IPA. Just don't let the boys clean your car, (not good, lol) better to just make a charitable donation.

Surprisingly good. Hadn't been to the moorhens for a few years and the food has definitely improved. The pies are great. Everything was hot and the portions were pretty big. Very good value too. Bar staff were friendly. Ended up staying far later than we planned!

Nice staff but pub and playground both in need of refurbishment. Pub seems to attract chavs despite being so close to Hitchin. If your kid was the ? 5 year old still wearing pull ups today he was being absolutely vile to all of the toddlers in the play area. You should have been watching him!

Disapointed... Visited here as a family group of six to remember my mother in law as this was one of her favourite places. The was the 2nd time we visited here and were told they were short staffed and there would be a wait. Absolutley no problem, happens and that is life totally get that. 3 people ordered steaks and asked to have medium rare, arrived and these were more like boardering well done. Asked if we could have the steaks redone, told no as there is no more steaks. Told desserts and coffee would be free of charge. Asked if we could have replaced with Hunter's Chicken instead, yes that is fine and we had no problem with a wait. This did not arrive, so three people basically had chips and veg as main. Ordering desserts and we were told now that only the affected meals would be free desserts and the kitchen did not do the replacment mains as they couldn't.. So basically came to have chips, veg and cheesecake. However the table near us ordered steak and hunters chicken when we was told there was no more steaks. Kitchen were basically calling the shots and leaving it to 2 young waitresess to front the customers that I may add were lovely and polite and we had no problem with them at all. They should be commended for handling the situation the way they did. The manager should have came to the table to explain and manage the situation sooner as managing is the job! and this could have been sorted saving our evening to remember why we was there. The bill upon a short discussion was wiped off. Kitchen were clearly calling the shots this evening and leaving it to 2 waitresess to front out all the customers. Food that did arrive was average at best this time, pie bottom was soggy. Probably won't return here.

We had a 2-course meal from the festive menu - roast turkey with all the trimmings - and it turned out we were the first customers to have been served the special dishes for this season. We were so touched by the effort made by our lovely server Poppy and all the staff to ensure our experience was holiday-worthy - down to the Christmas card and crackers to greet us! Despite ours being the first full holiday meals served the kitchen staff delivered our dishes expertly and promptly (no overcooked dry meat for us, which can so often happen with roast turkey in restaurants) complete with all the trimmings, extra gravy and cranberry sauce. Thanks again to Poppy for going the extra mile in looking after us and best wishes to you and all the staff for a happy Christmas season!

Visited about a week ago, didn't have the highest expectations. Was quite dissapointed to wait nearly 20 minutes to order a drink and a further 50 minutes to not get a food menu or then order anything. After this point I left as I'd planned to have a quick lunch.

Such a beautiful secret of a place. We have often drove past and mentioned about popping in and today we did for a splendid lunch. The venue was clean, tidy and well presented, the staff were all polite and friendly and the food was amazing. This place didn't disappoint me so I doubt it will disappoint you either.

Recently had a meal here for a birthday. Service was great, avoid the ultimate burger (it's not), described as coming with onion rings, (it does,2, plural I guess). skimpy on food portions but overkill on the salt on the herb fries. Disappointed and wouldn't recommend at all.

Nice evening with the friends. Only live music playing on the other side of the pub was very loud we couldn't hear each other. Food was okay. Staff were very helpful and friendly.

On Friday 8th December we booked for 7.00pm unfortunately we didn't eat our mains until nearly 9.00pm If the staff had told us they were short staffed in the beginning we would have understood it. But nothing was said so we had to keep asking when our mains and puddings were coming? It was nearly 10.00pm until we had finished.

Brilliant pub with excellent staff.. food is really good here, have never had a bad experience, much better than the next nearest pub, orange tree. Steaks are always cooked right.. sarah, isobel, lewis and kayleigh are great at their job and make sure you have everything you need, large garden and plenty of parking.. perfect pub..

Had a lovely evening, catching up with old colleagues, over a festive dinner at The Three Moorhens. Food was good - I enjoyed my turkey but those who had the beef said it was melt-in-the- mouth delicious. We were well looked after by Sarah, whose service was attentive but not hover-y! I also dealt with Sarah before the evening as we were a large party: she was very helpful and accommodating.

Didn't have the drink I wants or the main meal. With very limited vegetarian options I think it's important to make sure what you do have on the menu is actually available. Ended up with the nacho starter with bean chilli. Chilli was nice but the salsa was disgusting. Very vinegary, Didn't taste remotely of tomatos and ruined the whole dish as its was poured over the top. Our server Poppy however was very helpful and polite.

Lunch time mains of scampi & chips and sausages and mash washed down with Green King IPA. Whats not to like. Other food and drinks are available. Quick service.

Lovely Sunday lunch yesterday! I had the mushroom and Stilton Wellington, which is very, very rich, and a heap of veggies and roasties. There were several delicious sounding vegetarian options on the menu - not just the usual lasagna/chilli offerings! The desserts looked lovely too but we were too stuffed after the enormous roasts to even consider one..... The only downside was being asked to move outside before we had finished our drinks, as we had been given a table that had apparently been reserved. The staff were very sweet though, and we were offered a complimentary drink (which we declined) so it hasn't put us off returning.

Absolutely perfect. Took my father in law, two kids under two and hubby. The staff were absolutely fabulous with all our needs and believe me there were many requests. Good pricing, awesome food! Nothing we asked for seemed an issue! Thank you!

28/8/22 - Decided to try a Sunday roast here as hadn’t been for a considerable time. Not very busy at 3pm, easily accommodated and served quickly. 2 beautifully cooked roast dinners, comprising of beef, turkey and pork. Lots of perfectly cooked vegetables, a generous Yorkshire pudding and even given an additional gravy boat when we asked for extra. Really professional, friendly and efficient service. A big thank you to Poppy and all the staff for a great lunch. Definitely returning for more.

Cosy inside with a bar area and restaurant. Outside patio is large and modern. Also seating in the extended garden with a play area for children. Food is not the best I have had. A bit scrimpy(is that even a word?) on portion sizes so not the best value for money. Staff friendly and accommodating, when I visited only one lonely bar tender who was run off her feet. Would visit again without hesitation

Absolutely terrible service, waitress distracted talking to someone young men.when ordering soft drinks was not even given the option of large or small drinks twice I had to go to the counter, when the girl finally tore her self away from her conversation to take our order for dessert walked away from our table without even removing our empty plates these were removed by a lovely waitress who was not even on our table. On going to the counter to pay I was asked what I wanted I said To pay, the young man tore the bill from the till threw it on the counter, not knowing if I was able to read it, no asking did we enjoy the meal or was everything ok I paid and left

I visited The Three Moorhens on Sunday and had a Lovely Sunday Roast with my family. Not been in a while. We were served by Beth who was very attentive and welcoming. Definitely be back.

Really nice inside, brilliant range of drinks and lovely food. We went in the summer but I can imagine how nice it would be in the winter with the fires roaring away. The outside grounds are well presented, the only downside is the composite garden furniture, let's it down a bit. Otherwise a really enjoyable visit and will definitely come again.
