I visited Holwell Hyde with a little trepidation as my nephews had fished it last summer on a few occasions and blanked but with the weather was overcast with low winds and a temperature of 8 degrees I was confident of catching. The Website claims Carp to 32lb, Pike to 30Ib, Bream to 7lb, Tench to 6Ib, Perch to 4Ib, Crucian, Roach, Rudd, Tench. This was my first visit to the lake and the site is sadly a little run down with only a few swims maintained and others flooded, and unfortunately there is so much litter around it ruined the feel of the place for me. I decided to target the Perch and Roach and Fished during the lockdown in January I was the only person there and after a full days fishing I think I can understand why. It was completely dead. I ended up resorting to fishing a size 20 hook, single maggot at various depths on 4 different swims, not one bite was forth coming. I also tried Lobworm, Bread, Prawns and even tried spinning for Pike but nothing! My guess is the lake relies on natural restocking which I fully understand, but why the club charges £14 for 2 rods (Commercial Fishery rates) I cannot understand. I assume it would fish a little better in summer but to continue to charge this amount in the middle of winter on what clearly is a very sparsely stocked lake with only 7 hours of available fishing is a nonsense. All the club have succeeded in achieving is to put me off returning.

Hidden little lake with promise of some nice fish. Had a few mixed out. Cat, carp and a bream. The venue would benefit greatly from proper toilet facilities and access to clean potable water. All in all, a pleasant place and we intend to visit again soon.

Taken over by WGCAC a couple of years ago, and it has improved the place no end, much cleaner, swims and paths have been restored, with regular ongoing work parties to keep improving the venue. Some good fishing for those willing to work at it.

Big carp and cat day ticket lake

had not been there for years and went for a walk around the lake, I was the only one there and never saw a fish top.

Had lots of bream out 8 in total with one extremly big for a bream, however some in really bad condition which was a shame. I was there most the day and no sign of carp, alot of work has been done to the swims and it's looking much better for it, hope wgaa carry on the good work and get this lake back to its former glory days when the carp were full and plenty, it used to be so good down there pulling carp in double figures out all day long.

Very nice and fantastic gardens and woodland. It's definitely worthy to go there.

Lovely walk past the fields, looking at the flowers, rabbits and other wild life. Do this walk most days.

A nice little day ticket water free of dog walkers and cyclists. The fish are mostly small rudd and perch but it's relaxing fun.
