By far the largest wat in the area, and while it's mostly a ruin now, you could really imagine how spectacular it must have been in its prime! Really nice to walk around and explore all the details here!

Wat Mahathat, Sukhothai Province, is in Sukhothai Historical Park. It was built in the reign of Pho Khun Si Intharathit, the first king of Sukhothai Kingdom. The temple is spacious. From the front of the temple, you can clearly see the buddha image and pagoda of the temple which reflect the glory days of Sukhothai Kingdom.

A must see in Sukhothai. Especially during sundown it gets magical. Nevertheless for the early birds I would recommend going there during sunrise as all Buddhas look into the east.

Fantastic beautiful Thai temple, this historical place is the place for Loy Krathong festival here. I couldn’t come at night time but I do believe it will be very beautiful. You can see many beautiful temples. This historical park is more than 700 years. Mostly is ruins temples. It’s world heritage as UNESCO mentions. The sunset time is very nice. Rental bike to drive around the park is recommended 😄🚲

The central, and most important temple within the historical park. Multiple incredible structures and statues that are visually and architecturally stunning. Linger here and take it in from all angles. Definitely recommend - if you came to Sukothai, you should see this temple.

The central point of Sukhothai Historical Park. This wat is famous for its standing buddha statue with Sukhothai style. As a visitor, you will also be amazed with the architecture such as the giant pillars inside the wat. It's recommended to rent a bike to get around.

Visited Feb 9. 2018. An awe inspiring and beautiful historic site. Felt like we were somewhere that time forgot. No other tourists were here February 2018 but maybe it’s become more popular. We took a round trip 2 hr bus from Chang Mai.

Although much parts of the temple are some ruins, but the temple has an unbelievable yard with tidy garden and giant trees. Very nice place to visit and learn Thai History.

Beautiful place to visit day or night. Can be pretty warm during the day, but there are shaded areas to hide under. Try to line up your visit during a festival time. They might have the lights on.

Extraordinary and full of Thai's historical buildings and temple since the first era of Thailand. It's quite shady; but, still hot during day. So, better bring a hat and a sunglasse.

Truly amazing. For me, it is the best part in this historical park. Not only the scenery at the sunset, the views from different angles and spots have their own great charm and beauty. Take your time here and stay until the sun goes down deep into the ground and stars appear on the sky. You will love its night view and atmosphere.
